People almost never want to pay you for the mods you put in a machine, at least that's my experience. If selling a pin with ColorDMD just list it for say $5000 with ColorDMD and $4500 without, right up front in the add. Chances are you will be keeping the ColorDMD which is ok because there are so many other games you can put it in and so much more to come.

Sorry, you're right. I misunderstood and was thinking you were saying if you had one of them that was colorized and then swapped the code it would also be colorized.

I've only sold one game that had a ColorDMD installed. I made it clear the game was $400 less if I took it out of the game. The buyer kept it in.

I think ColorDMD is one of the few mods that you can recover the cost on. Once people see it in a game, very few are going to want to go back to a stock DMD.

+1 I haven't sold a game with one installed, but I have seen the same trend.

My philosophy when buying a game that has CDMD in it is this:

I can always use extra parts. When the seller gives me an option to put the original orange display back in, I always go that route and then buy a CDMD afterwards. It saves $400 off the initial large purchase amount, and I gain an extra orange display to put in another pin or whatever if I need it down the line.
