Quoted from Maken:

Decided to try a color LED after being very happy with my first two color LCDs.
Unfortunately, the display arrived with two broken pixels, one on each half of the display. Hoping Randy will make it right, but a very disappointing first experience with the LED version.
I'd recommend if you have the LED version to go into DMD test and confirm that you don't have any bad pixels. It can be very hard to tell during normal gameplay.

How do you go into DMD test?

I put a ColorDMD (LED) in my Road Show yesterday, the color animations are fantastic as that game has A LOT.

I'll try to get some video this weekend to share.

I was completely thrown off as i didn't realize i had ordered the LED version and I was expecting it to look like my MMr (factory LCD). It's growing on me though as the colors really pop. I do like the "dotsXL" display on MMr, it's not actually that as it's not a ColorDMD, but that's the closest way to explain it (minus the HD graphics).

So regardless of the washed colors, you prefer the dots over the smooth LCD display?

#386 6 years ago

Yeah i don't care for the HiRes. But dotsXL is pretty sharp... That would be the one i'd question whether that's better than the LED display.

Just use the regular settings/menu for the pinball machine and search for the test (buttons inside coin door).

Any resellers have the LED display in stock? ColorDMD has been out for a while now...

I ordered mine from Ministry of Pinball, they have several LED ones in stock. Took a little over a week to get here (states).

I bought both and decided the LCD looks much better in Road Show. I just think the LED was too harsh. My game is full LED'd but I do have OCD boards on everything and run the inserts at about 45%.

I will be posting a one week old LED in the classified within the hour if someone wants a deal on a barely used LED.

I've had both, LCD hands down, it barely sticks up above the speaker panel on my Road Show.

Quoted from jeffsarcade:

I love the LED in my TWD. But I'm probably more of a traditionalist in that I actually like the red DMD and the "dot" look. My LED looks just like my old red DMD except with color. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for in adding color.

My gripe with the LED is the dead space. Way way too much of it. The brightness and colors are awesome but the LCD just looks better to me.

#438 6 years ago

Yeah, the dead space between pixels is what i meant. At least for me it was much more noticeable when it was sitting next to MMr and you had that for comparison. I much prefer the LCD look and styling. The fitment wasn't an issue for me on RoadShow, but I could see if the LCD blocked any lights, I would be upset.

I think it's great we have options and you can grab whatever works best of you.

It's all personal preference.

This, no one can tell you which way to go, it's completely preference...

Quoted from tatanka1961:

It all comes down to personal taste

This and pretty much only this

For every LCD vote, you will get people vote LED.... It's nice we have options. I do agree though, it's an absolutely fantastic addition to games that support it. It seems so BORING to play a game without a ColorDMD now!
