COLORDMD JOINS THE CIRCUS!

ColorDMD Displays is especially excited to announce multicolor support for our 44th game: Cirqus Voltaire! Using ColorDMD's newly announced RGB LED display platform, we're finally able to bring full frame-by-frame colorization to one of the most colorful games in pinball history!

CV_Title_(resized).PNGCV_Title_(resized).PNG

Cirqus Voltaire served as the inspiration behind development for ColorDMD's compact new RGB LED display! The ColorDMD LED display features an array of 128x32 RGB LEDs and sports a similar form factor to conventional DMD displays. The new LED display fits neatly behind the Cirqus pinball playfield where it's always in view!

Cirqus Voltaire was colored by ColorDMD co-founder Chris Enright. Chris' long list of contributions include Addams Family, Fish Tales, Indiana Jones, Medieval Madness, Metallica, Monster Bash, Scared Stiff, Star Trek: TNG, Tales of the Arabian Nighs, Theatre of Magic, Twilight Zone, and White Water!

Chris is also the founder of the Orange County Pinball League, and continues to organize and run monthly league meetings and tournaments. Chris is also a mechanical engineer and has reproduced a number of rare parts for both modern and prewar pinball machines.

Cirqus Voltaire uses the newly designed ColorDMD LED platform. All LED displays ship with the factory installed SIGMA ROM that supports WPC, WPC95, SAM, and Whitestar platforms. Multicolor operation is enabled through download and installation of a game-specific color ROM file, available from our site. ROMs can be changed at any time, allowing use with other supported LED titles.

The pilot run of LED displays is shipping now from our store site. The color ROM for Cirqus Voltaire pinball machines is targeted for release by Friday, August 5! Watch our site and Facebook page for upcoming announcements regarding new product updates and releases! For more information, please visit us at www.colordmd.com.

Sorry for any confusion. I sent the email and made the post a little early. Displays are on the site now.

Quoted from Magicchiz:

I am assuming that if these were put into another wpc95 you can set it to a solid color mode? Like we all did with the Twilight zone until it's release.
Anybody know for sure?
Magicchiz

Yes, the LED display will work in single-color mode for all currently supported platforms (WPC, WPC95, SAM, Whitestar, SPIKE, and PROC).

CIRQUS VOLTAIRE ROM RELEASED!

The color ROM to support Cirqus Voltaire pinball machines has been released and is now available for download from the SUPPORT page of our site!

Thanks to Chris Enright for a truly great job on a title that a lot of people have been waiting for! And thanks to Kevin G for the many long hours beta testing this release!

Drive must be formatted as MS-FAT32. Make sure the file is saved exactly as "chroma.rom" with no added characters (ex. chroma(1).rom) or hidden extensions (ex. chroma.rom.rom).

PROG LED should blink at power-up. Then blink once more upon insertion/detection of the USB drive.

Then press and hold the left-most button for 5 seconds. LED should blink 5x before going solid to begin the download.

If the PROG LED starts blinking a repeated error code at any stage, you'll need to reset power to clear the error and install again.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

I received my LED display yesterday for CV, but my game has not yet arrived. What am I to do for a week while I wait? Empty spot waiting. haha

You can help us to check mechanical fit on some of the other backbox configurations we've had trouble supporting in the past. Best to do this via email.

Quoted from Magic_Mike:

To echo the voice of others:
I would like for Color DMD to publicly address why they decided to put their name on the color bars on the Copy Cat mode??!!!
WHAT.........THE........F**K???!!!
Extremely tacky and would like to see it removed in their next revision!

Please be aware... the following is an official public address from ColorDMD...

Negative commentary posted to public forums in all-caps accompanied by devil horns, ellipsis, asterisks, any combination of question and exclamation marks, and demands for public address, are likely to result in a ridiculous public address. It may also contain elements of sarcasm.

That is all.

This message brought to you by guys working at 12:30AM on a Sunday morning to make your games a little more fun.

P.S. I'm certain there was a constructive suggestion in there somewhere. When you find it, please mail it and any others to [email protected].

The feedback regarding Catgate(TM) had already been noted and will be taken into consideration when/if an update for CV is released.

Chris and I are on the forum a lot, but don't respond to every issue/comment that's posted here. If you have a question or issue in need of a direct response, an email or PM is the best way to contact us.

We place a higher priority on bug reports, but we do remain open to constructive suggestions for improvements. We manage a heavy load so any requests will necessarily be balanced against other priorities.

We sincerely appreciate all the continued support and interest in ColorDMD and hope that everyone is enjoying their CV displays!

Quoted from kapsreiter:

any Picture from what we are talking here? logo during the game?

No logo or even the same font.

Generic font letters spelling COLOR and DMD appear superimposed over gray rectangles that are randomly displayed on the left and right sides of the screen. The two rectangles (and words) do not ever appear on the screen at the same time.

The only time you'd see it is if you manage to start the sideshow Copy Cat mode during the game. It was intended as an innocuous bit of fun to punch up a fairly uninspired graphic but YMMV.

Also, to help keep things in perspective, this mode uses only one out of 4000+ unique hand-colored filters that were created for the game! The effort to colorize Cirqus Voltaire, and create a new hardware platform to support it, was enormous.

An update for CV is included with the port and release of all 47 titles for LED. Copy cat text has been removed along with some minor bug fixes.

Quoted from Magic_Mike:

I went back to monochrome. I got tired of looking at the advertising.
The CV Color DMD went back in the box and is waiting on the advertising removal upgrade, otherwise it's getting mailed back for good.
It has to be returned in original condition, so it made no sense to keep it in the game.
Randy at Color DMD is fully aware of this, but thanks for chiming in.

An RMA was sent to you more than a month ago. Refund is ready upon return.

Waiting on a large order of LED modules, but factory is shut down for CNY. Best estimate is late February.

Getting closer... Expecting to have LED modules in hand next week to complete assembly and test.

Fingers crossed!
