Quoted from Aurich:Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. Be nice if some glossy IPS panels were to fall into ColorDMD's price range. No reason why the colors can't pop more. Still a sweet look though.
Glossy IPS would be really bad. IPS glow would be a serious issue on a pinball machine and part of 'colour pop' is contrast. Contrast is poor on IPS. They're bad for entertainment and anything where black depth is needed (like on a DMD). That's why IPS is never used on mid to high end TVs. Until OLEDs are available and affordable, VA is what's needed. Glossy is a terrible idea as you'd get reflections from all the playfield lights and anything in the room. You need matte / anti-glare. IPS would be a side-grade from TN (better viewing angles, but more ghosting and glow), and glossy would be a huge downgrade.
Reason for resurrection was that I was searching for any discussion of panel type in ColorDMD .. I'm not that keen on getting one (having seen it in person now) until some VA panels are sourced.
