Pony Up! Mustang is Here!

ColorDMD is excited to announce Mustang is the 98th game to be supported by the ColorDMD multicolor pinball display platform! Upon release, two different color ROMs will be available to support both the Pro/LE and Premium "BOSS" versions of the game.

Mustang was colored by veteran ColorDMD developer Jeff Collins, whose past releases include Rocky and Bullwinkle, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Slugfest! Jeff has been in the hobby for 15 years and has amassed a large collection of games. His acquisition of a Mustang Pro provided the inspiration to start this project!

Mustang has six modes with long and detailed animations, a bonus drifting mode, the finale Silverball Stampede and five multiball modes! Coloring Mustang turned out to be quite a large effort, compounded by a late discovery... Jeff realized that the DMD frames for the Pro and LE are different from the BOSS machine. To complete the project, he hunted down a BOSS so he could compare the dots and test on both machines!

This turned one project into two as Jeff sought to complete coloring for each game in a manner consistent with the individual playfields. Mustang is a fun and campy game to play. It's full of cameos of characters from other machines and some Stern legends. We hope you enjoy the sum of Jeff's efforts and enjoy experiencing Mustang in full color on whichever model you have!

The ColorDMD for Mustang pinball machines shares the same easy-to-install hardware platform as previous ColorDMD releases. All displays ship with the factory installed SIGMA ROM that supports WPC, WPC95, SAM, Whitestar, and SPIKE platforms. Multicolor operation is enabled through download and installation of a game-specific color ROM file, available from our site. ROMs can be changed at any time, allowing use with any of our supported titles.

Displays are shipping now from our store site and through our distributors. The color ROM for Mustang pinball machines is targeted for release by Friday, February 21! For more information, please visit us at www.colordmd.com.

Just a couple of notes on Mustang install that differ from other Stern games:

(1) We are shipping a different shield with Mustang orders that has notches to accommodate the plaque underneath the display on Premium/LE games.
(2) The bolt that holds the mustang logo to the speaker panel on Premium/LE games is (extra) long and interferes with mounting for the LCD. It's fairly easy to cut the bolt shorter in order to mount the LCD, but is something you'll need to be aware of for installation of the LCD. LED will fit without trimming of the bolt.

Can you post a small video of the LCD on this game? I'd love to see how the LCD is compared to the LED.

The preview video in this thread was filmed using the LCD display in DOTXL mode.

Wonderful. I had this game and sold it last summer. Still miss it. A very underrated game with fun mode play that progresses to fun (but difficult to achieve) wizard modes, balanced and varied multiball play, and other sneaky ways to score that really flesh out the game. Great candidate for color DMD so I'm glad to see this got done for the community. Thanks!
