I'm taking the whole Fun With Pinball exhibit (http://www.funwithpinball.com) to Maker Faire Denver (http://denver.makerfaire.com/) in two weeks (Oct 14,15). There will be many other exhibitors there including the Sparkfun Autonomous Vehicle Competition.

Anyone interested in helping me introduce pinball to a whole new crowd should PM me for details.

Anyone else into EMs?

Almost exclusively. But I'm kinda funny that way.

(Sorry for the off topic post, I only need to reach the local crowd.)

I'll be taking most of the Fun With Pinball exhibit (www.funwithpinball.com) to the Rocky Mountain STEAM Fest 2018 in Longmont next weekend. Stop by and say 'Hi' if you go. I'll have some extra wrist bands if anyone wants to help for a few hours. PM me if you're interested.

(And now back to your regularly scheduled horse trading... )

Any local fans of The Who might want to know about a new stage production of Tommy opening next week in Denver:

https://www.denvercenter.org/shows/specific-series/Get?Id=403ac74c-f680-4d72-acbc-1e8d749d7381

I have it on good authority that there may be some free EM pinball available too...

Are there people locally who shop out games as a side business? (I'm not in the market...just wondering since the request was "minor repairs and shopping").

I do a little repair work on the side, for EMs only though. Or, I can teach you to do it.

Wow, thanks for the kind words Mr68 and @mathazar. I don't have a set schedule for the class. I teach it when I can find a few students in a given area and a space to use in that area. I may have something to offer at the Showdown but I don't have details yet.

If you move games more than once a year or so, I'd recommend buying one.

One of my friends has this pachinko machine for sale. denver.craigslist.org link
I'm considering it but have no clue how to fix them. No idea if it even works. Easy to find parts and fix them?

Many (most?) pachinko games of that era are entirely mechanical and just use electricity to flash a few lights when balls go through the appropriate switches. Like anything they may need a good cleaning to work well which means disassembling and cleaning individual parts. If you enjoy mechanical puzzles these can be a lot of fun to figure out.

I needed one part for my pachinko which I printed myself after finding the design on thingiverse.com. You'll also want to look into balls for the game. These games usually use several hundred balls if I recall. Otherwise you have to refill them often. And you'll probably need some kind of box at the bottom to catch the balls.

Pardon the interruption for a shameless plug...

There are a few Pinball Engineering workshops coming up in Colorado. This is a short introduction into what makes EM pinball machines tick. All are free but require registration.

Nov 16 in Bennett: https://www.anythinklibraries.org/events/pinball-engineering-workshop-mark-gibson
Nov 18 in Boulder: https://calendar.boulderlibrary.org/event/5912710
Nov 18 in Boulder: https://calendar.boulderlibrary.org/event/5751417
and another likely on Dec 11 in Thornton. (PM me for details)

The workshop description is at
https://www.funwithpinball.com/learn/pinball-engineering-workshop

And I'm always looking for students to put together another extended EM Pinball Repair class.
https://www.funwithpinball.com/learn/pinball-machine-repair-class
PM me with interest and your location. I just need about 4-5 students to run a class.

Does anyone in denver or Colorado Springs area do shop jobs on EMs? I’ve got a Williams Grand Prix that needs a mechanical once over. Thanks for any tech leads.

I do service work on EMs. Randy at https://peakpinball.com does too.

For any EM fans out there I'll be trying something new next month at Tilt Pinball in Louisville that I'm calling EM Pinball Repair Day. It's an all day, hands on group repair day. Bring a game and we'll work through them all, as a group, round robin style. Space is limited. Details for Repair Day and other upcoming classes and exhibits are at:

Thanks for bringing out your exhibit! My girls really thought they were cool and helped them understand the complexity of pins and that there was a time when chips didn’t run everything

I'm glad they enjoyed it.

Quoted from jacksparrow0112:

My 10 year old, who is quite interested in following in my engineering footsteps, absolutely loved the side room setup with all of the EM components that he could individually activate. ... Now he is very interested in helping me in the garage to restore the Cherry Bell I recently picked up locally.

Sounds like he's part of the target audience for the exhibit. There's lots more on the web site at https://www.funwithpinball.com/. Maybe he'd even be interested in an online repair clinic: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/an-em-pinball-online-repair-clinic
