Rather than stack all three connectors on J116, you can plug the ColorDMD into J117 or J118. These are all the same and provide 12V, GND, and 5V.

I'm not familiar with the Idol mod so not sure how much current it draws or on which supply. If the fuse at F116 blows, you're trying to pull too much current from the supply. You can measure the voltage at TP1 to make sure you are still seeing more than 12V. If it drops below that level, you may notice weak flippers or sluggish motors.

    Quoted from KornFreak28:

Ok so I can leave the idol lights at J116 with the original J116 connector as pictured and then plug the color DMD power connector into J117 or J118 and then plug the original connector from Either J117 or J118 with the male adapter into the secondary "middle" connector? Is that correct?
    Thanks for your quick reply!

    Yes, that's correct.

Looks correct from what I can see.

If you're not getting LEDs lit on the back of the ColorDMD, you may have a blown fuse at F116.

Looks like screen backlight is on. Let's see a photo of the WPC DMD controller board.

Red stripe on narrow ribbon cable is on wrong side at WPC DMD controller. Flip it over so it's on the left.

Your cable was reversed at both the DMD and the board so it worked before.

    What lights are out?

The yellow sheet needs to be updated. It's the button furthest to the left.

Not sure where you are. Insert the thumb drive. The PROG LED should blink once to indicate the drive was found and mounted. Then press and hold the button furthest to the left.

If the PROG LED starts repeatedly blinking at any time, it's an error code. Most common error is incorrect file name. Must be "chroma.rom". File must come from the Chroma ROM download page.

If the PROG LED is continuing to blink, check the filename to make sure there are no added characters (ex. chroma(1).rom) and no hidden double extension (ex. colordmd.rom.rom).

Once the error code blinking you'll need to reset power to the board to clear the error in order to try again.

No quotes in the filename. If the PROG LED blinks as soon as you insert the USB drive, there's a problem mounting the drive.

You'll either need to format the drive to MS-FAT32 or try a different drive.

Other files can be on the USB drive.

Take it step by step and watch the PROG LED.

(1). Power the board on without the USB drive. THe PROG LED will blink briefly at power up and the board should boot to DONE. DONE indicates that the boot process is completed.

    (2) insert the USB drive. PROG should blink once on mounting the drive and go out. If PROG keeps blinking at this stage there is a problem with the USB drive. You'll need to reformat the drive with MS-FAT32 or purchase a new drive. MS-FAT32 is the formatting used for new drives.

    (3) Press and hold the left button. PROG will blink slowly 5x and then go solid for the installation. When installation is complete the PROG LED will turn off. IF PROG starts repeatedly blinking here there is a problem with the filename.

If the filename looks correct and doesn't contain any additional characters you may have a hidden double extension (chroma.rom.rom). You can try deleting the visible extension. Turn the power off and on again and repeat the process.

The STATUS LED doesn't really do anything except light when you're pressing buttons. It's controlled by an embedded processor so it provides evidence that the chip has booted and is working properly.

Great! Glad you got it working.

DOTS is the style closest to the original DMD but must people prefer DOTXL over DOTS which makes the display brighter and improves the contrast.
