Done.
Also ordered one for my Pinball Magic.
Only machines we have now that are not colorized are Big Buck Hunter Pro and Airborne.
Woo Hoo! Maverick! Very excited for this title. My game is in storage but I'll be picking up a display in the future. Can't wait to see some clips.
Quoted from Jvspin:Can't wait to see some clips.
Usually, they are posted on FB or on the ColorDMD new game title thread on Wednesdays.
Quoted from arcademojo:And after that?
Well....another awesome color announcement.
Quoted from crujones4life:Looks absolutely beautiful! Can't wait!
Don't delay. I see it released now!! Dave Timmer did another great job with coloring this one. http://www.colordmd.com/support_firmware_chroma.html
Has anyone downloaded and installed the croma files for Maverick yet?
The reason I’m asking is I’m having a few issues with mine and trying to figure it out.
In general the new display looks great, but there are a handful of frames that are yellow and not colorized.
Also a couple glitchy frames like “discard” in black jack where the word is rendered in two colors. Some frames are fine, while others have issues.
I’ve had this issue in the past with other machines where I had a bad download and had to reinstall the file.
I’ve downloaded and reinstalled twice now and getting the same result though.
Is anyone else having this problem, Possible Bad upload?
Or another issue with my machine I’m not thinking of?
Thanks in advance.
Those colors do not match what I see in the video preview. I think your RGB/BGR setting needs to be changed in the menu. If the you go into the menu and it is not orange, this is the issue.
Maverick color ROM will already have the option in the menu. Just make the change in the menu.

Hey Coindork!
Looks like a game rom version issue. I've never seen the Dataeast logo in my game and since this is a sega game that leads me to believe you are on an older rom version. PM sent!

Thanks guys.
I just checked and all three EPROMs I looked at are labeled 1.0, which is also what the game shows briefly upon boot. Very first code release I guess.
I’ve owned this machine less than a year and never updated it.
I don’t have an EPROM burner, so I just order a complete set of roms CPUv4.04 / DISP v4.0
I’ll give an update once I put those in.
The rest of the display looks great, just a few frames in yellow.
I guess this gets me off my lazy butt to update the game code.
I’ll keep you posted when I get the machine updated.
Really appreciate it.
A couple of interesting observations I just made about my machine.
It seems to be a very early machine.
EPROMS are still version 1.0 and all all the marking like serial tag, stickers on speakers and manual are all marked Data East. No mention of SEGA whatsoever even on the manual. Many manuals I have seen say SEGA on them.
The build date is September 1 1994.
What month did SEGA buy Data East?

When you press the menu button, is it orange? The Sega hedgehog should be blue as well.
Just wondering this is a 2 part issue or just 1.

Menu is all in yellow.
With my current rom set there is no SEGA anything. No Sonic the Hedgehog etc. I think this machine might predate the SEGA merger and is running the original code that was Data East only (just pre SEGA).
Picked the machine up locally off another pinside member who bought it from a woman that won it on The Price is Right back in the 90s. It has a few other oddball things about it. Don’t think it’s a prototype, but definitely some odd things like the Laura Bell (boat lock) is hand painted.
Quoted from Coindork:Menu is all in yellow.
So then, this is a 2 part issue.

Sorry, let me clarify that.
When stating the menue is in yellow, that’s for the game itself.
The display menu the DMD is what looks to me like red (might be orange though) and is set to BGR. We went through the different settings last night befor I posted initially. RGB and RBG look totally wrong color wise and display in blues.
Just double checked this and the other settings look totally wrong.
BGR has it about 95% + the correct colors, it’s just certain frames that are not colorized.
I’m thinking early code is my issue at this point (unless I’m missing something). My guess would be that a lot changed in the Data East/SEGA merger.

Ok. Great. Just was making sure you had the best display until your game/display ROMs arrive.

Yeah, its a rom version issue. The title screen is missing the copyright stuff so thats why its uncolored among other things.

I think so.
I just looked at OTRChief post in the Maverick owners thread and he posted pictures of a couple of animations I have never seen on my machine.
I’m even more excited now, because it looks bad ass as it is.
Now I’m curious what I’ve been missing.

Pretty interesting. Your machine confirms that the original Data East production start was actually probably October 1994. IPDB changed that to Sept 25, 1994, but your Sept 1st build date pretty much confirms Data East started making Maverick sometime in October 1994 and the original IPDB info was actually right.

So this is kind of interesting.
The boat “Lauren Bell” on this machine is hand painted and looks a lot like the one on the boat on the flyer.
The ones I’m finding in most pictures seem to be decals.

Might be one of the early test location machines.
Quoted from PinballManiac40:Sweet! New title hint.

Stumped on that one.
I haven't played much of Hook, but I think Tik Tok is a mode in the game. Server is missing part of his arm, and he could use a hook as an appendage. The mustache looks like the Hook's character's stash.

Sounds like solid reasoning.
