Quoted from Gnatty:

But my point is, why would color DMD produce the rom for this title if owners can't use it with the original red covered panel. So 10 (now 7 left) panels are available. I can't see it happening.

There will be many games that need special installations. It started with lamp boards in TAF and then DW. Then to get CV done an LED version was created. There are people working on their own to get very special installs done on games like Pinball Magic even though Capcom is not supported.

Like it has been said above the mission is to get them all done.

I started a thread about this some time ago and I'm guessing Randy or someone associated with him saw that there was some interest.

Isn't that the case with every release? Who can be upset at a new release? I'm still trying to find a Data East Cut The Cheese to color for an April Fools' Day release just to irritate DCFAN .

Yeah!! Spot on! Giddy up!! It works good enough for me right now.

Anything to get rid of those pesky 15+ year orange displays.

Yeah, I bit the bullet and purchased a repro panel from Classic arcades just now. Color DMD is just too good to pass on if you have any machine that it supports.

#1107 7 years ago

Yep. It's official!

They have sold 10 of those speaker panels in under 12 hours xD....

I agree with your Sterns but the Bally/Williams games seem like C titles (by C titles I don't mean the quality of the game but the price or fanbase for the game). They are games limited in numbers or cheap in price. I agree that filling a niche with support for the Sega big DMDs might sell a few more also but only BF seems to have a following of the ones you mention. Again supporting Gottlieb would be a good move but Stargate is the only Gottlieb I could see selling in decent numbers. Of the ones you listed I will say that I only know of three being colored right now and it's probably not the obvious ones.

I was looking at Baywatch's animations the other day and there seemed to be a lot of video. That could be a hassle to color.

#1117 7 years ago

If we're talking Gottlieb's Super Mario is a top candidate. The scrolling mushroom kingdom background, the mini game. Playing it in tile mode if it's supported by the LCD version would look spot on.

#1118 7 years ago

I still don't understand why T2 hasn't been done yet? Williams sold a huge amount of them and there are very few animations and they are simple compared to more modern games. Seems like an easy way title to profit from.

I think you're missing Star Trek for Stern - I think that would outsell all of them.

Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

Just because they look simple at first glance doesn't mean they are simple once you start coloring. Screen transitions, fades in and out, random objects can all delay a game's progress. Sometimes a game also needs a champion to push it through like Taxman and Popeye.

For BSD the hardest part at first was the attract screen. Clouds moving in the background while words fade in and out. Those words can also fade out at any time by pressing the flippers. The most time was spent figuring out solutions to the attract sequence and then even more time was spent coloring every variation. Plus the credits sequence was very long as well and took awhile and there were two versions, movie credits and pin credits. The attract screen is usually the least looked at part of the game and yet takes the most time to color.

Yes, Chris and Randy warned me about the fact that the first 90% of the coloring would take 10% of the time. The last 10% of the job would take 90% of the time and be more frustrating than fun. I'm paraphrasing and applying lessons learned of course. But it is a kind of masonic club whose membership is earned.

I spent as much time on the attract mode transitions as I did everything else in the game except the 4 modes.

Congrats by the way. The screens I have seen so far are awesome. It is amazing the detail that come out after coloring that you never saw before.

You should put this at the end of your original post on page one and update it there. It's super handy, but when I have to go looking for the latest one, it's a pain. If it was on page one, post one and just updated there, it would be very EASY to find!

I wonder if the ColorDMD gang have another in them this year?
Titles to close out the year and fulfill my wish list.
Hurricane would be nice, Sat there the other night counting animations and sequences, seems like an easy title to do. And my dmd is gasing out in lower right corner.
Black Rose , still hoping to get this with the newer LED dots.

They've put out a new title about every two weeks this year, so probably more than one.

I want pretty front legs and shooter housings too, but at what price per game? Already have blades, toppers, shooters, speaker lights and, yes, ColorDMDs in all my DMD pins.
