I have 1953 and 1968 games and I was thinking it would be cool to stock their coin boxes with coins from the same year that the games were made. I could tumble them so they look new and shiny.

The 1953 game takes nickels and the 1968 game takes nickels, dimes and quarters.

I did a search for rolls of coins from those years but only turned up a couple on eBay like this one which obviously costs too much to buy. (I also called a couple of local coin shops with no luck)

If they have any value beyond face value, don't tumble them. Then they'll only have face value or silver value. No collector value.

I bought a roll of Canadian 1954 nickels only cost a few bucks. Fun!
Got them from a coin store.

I ordered a roll of uncirculated 1953 nickels through eBay for $28.

They'll look nice with the game in restored condition.

All my woodrails have coins from same year as they were made!

All coins from ebay.

Dimes are quite expensive as they have silver in them.

I have a 1933 Buffalo Nickel for my Rockola Jigsaw, tought I'm the only one that crazy
But it would be really expensive to run the machine just on 1933 coins so the Buffalo Nickel is for special occasions only

Maybe we're not so crazy after all when you think about the game being new that year being filled with shiny new coins from the same year.

It just seems cool to do this.

When I bought my Baby Pac-Man it came with tons of tokens from FunSpot Arcade of the years it was on the floor there. It’s a really cool touch and I only use those tokens on it. It even had a few bowling score mats with notes from previous techs!

This is only tricky (and expensive) for you EM guys. DMD guys can easily get 1990s (and up) quarters to keep in their games.

If we're posting coin doors here is mine. It came from another Williams' game that someone parted out. I repainted it from stencils based on photos.

The door that came with my game was a replacement made of plywood.

This machine is not on free play, so I agree, it is fun to use the old style Buffalo nickel... Appropriate for the Buffalo Bill.

That coin slot would be a great place to keep a Buffalo nickel.

After thinking about it. I realized the game would have been filled with coins older than the year it was first routed. That means I should use all Buffalo and Jefferson nickels up to the year 1953.

Didnt look at the year of the coin but I picked up a Mondail FarOut game the was re-imported from France, still set up for french Franc, and found a coin in the bottom of the cab. I stuck it on the apron as part of the history of the game.

Scoregasm Master from 2015 has a 1934 nickel embedded in its ball lift mechanism. The game was based on Contact Master from 1934.

In our game room I Only use quarters dated 1980-1986. Those were my Arcade years when I was a youngin’.
