not sure whether this is relevant to you but I recently restored a GTB 1946 Superliner with coin slide. On this machine unless there are free plays available the coin door relay does not activate and this does not 'trip' the coin slide unless a nickel is inserted. By 'cosmetically activating' the relay with a creased business card this allows the machine to operate as free play. Pics explain:
