Your 'pulse' needs to be a 'pulse' to the machine's ground.

    That's all you need.

Edit: Your pulse (time connected to ground) should be no less than about 125ms. 250ms is good to use. Longer or shorter could be seen as fraud attempts or not picked up by the MPU. (This, of course, depends on the game manufacturer.. EM games, for example, could need to be as long as is needed for the credit relay to catch!)

    Quoted from policano:

Thank you! So in order for this to work you need to use both wires on the cherry switch.

No - you don't *have* to. You could bring the machine's (rather, the MPU board's) ground any other way. It's be SAFE to use the ground from the cherry switch, but not *necessary*. (The ground from the cherry switch, in some games, comes from the ground on the power driver board - which is connected to the MPU board by the backplane. WPC machine, for example. Do you could get the ground from the power drive board and be fine. I would NOT use your own ground, though, unless your ground is shared with the game's.)

    Quoted from policano:

Ok so I think I understand now.
On a new stern there is an orange and black wire. When you touch the two wires together you get a credit. I think my biggest problem is the payment system I'm working on currently only has a 100ms pulse and its simply being ignored. I tried this on literally all my machines. New Sterns, WPC 95, and a SYS 3. I believe the problem is that its to short.

Could be - some machines (WPC, at least?) have a setting in them that allows you to specify the shorted coin pulse. Setting A.3 23 in some games, like my TZ.
