The coin lockout coil is de-energized when there are credits showing on the credit wheel. When it's down to zero credits, then the coil will energize to accept coins.

Quoted from Pinslot:I thought it de-energizes when you have reached maximum credits to prevent coins going thru to the cash box which can't add credits?
That's the way it *used* to be. Starting around 1975, Williams changed the circuitry on single player machines to de-energize the coin lockout coil when *any* credits were on the machine. Even some of the EM arcade machines like Ringer are the same way. My buddy Welby Bergum has a Ringer set to 2 plays for a quarter. If any credits are on the machine, you can't put any coins in. The credit meter has to be on zero credits before coins can be accepted.
