Something weird is going on with my Getaway. The longer its been since the last time it was used, the worse it is.

The first game you play after the game is turned on, the flippers have almost no power at all. I can't be sure if the other coils are similar, since the ball launches.

After the first game or two the flippers have usually come back to life and everything is fine after that.

Probably a connector issue of some sort.

Coil plungers are loose and don't need warm up time (unless somebody did something crazy like greased them).

Warm the game up, turn the game off, and instantly turn it back on.

Are the coils still good?

i had a problem with my fuse once, flippers lost their strenght but made connection sometimes then strenght was back
maybe check the flipper fuses?

Could be power supply related. Cold solder joints or bad caps. The 50 volts should be checked at the coil (red lead on the coil, black lead on ground strap in game). See what the 50 volt coil power is at startup and watch it after 5 or 10 minutes. The voltage perhaps is starting out lower than it should be and raising up to normal as time goes on.

I would check cabinet flipper switches, if corroded badly the will cause poor contacts, and after wiping against each other may clear enough to fully power flipper, also check end of stroke.

If I were to try to rebuild the PS, what specific components should I be interested in replacing? Is there a thread in Pinside that you could direct me to?

Ed has kits for all that. If kit is sold out you can build your own based on his listings and just substitute a larger voltage cap for the one he is out of.

So I checked the coils at startup and after 10 minutes, both read 75.6V DC? That doesn't seem right.

I warmed the game up, turned it off and then back on and the coils were still strong.

Latest update.

Upon inspection decided to replace both flipper leaf switches as they were looking pretty funky and had been adjusted many times in the past. Problem still persists.

Added to that, the left flipper registers in switch test about 10% - 15% of the time, right flipper registers every time.

I've also noticed when the I'm in a game, the ball in the shooter lane and I'm just trying the flippers, the DMD shows some garbled text/images whenever I flip.

After much reading and testing, I finally corrected the problem.

Tested DC voltage at TP1 and got 4.99 V; tested DC voltage at J114-3 and got 4.95V; tested DC voltage at J210-5 and got 4.85V, which would drop to 4.60V when I would have my issues. Replaced the IDC at J210 and I'm back up and running!
