I have a broken sleeve in the coil that steps the trip wheel in my Gottlieb Universe.
I noticed that the sleeve measures 1 13/16 inches which makes this stick out beyond the size of the coil itself.

I'm thinking that this is the wrong size sleeve for this coil (there are no markings on the coil but the schematic says its a A-1496) .
The sleeve looks like it was cracked by the movement of the arm that connects to the plunger.

My question is should the coil sleeve be that much longer than the coil? Should I order a smaller sleeve?

Could you post a close-up a photo of the coil and plunger ?
I've never seen this particular mechanism so it's hard to say.

I asked the master (Steve Young), this very question just this past week. He said the longer 1 13/16" sleeve is for step up coils. The extra length helps to guide the plunger a little better. If the link is breaking the sleeve, then you should probably adjust the coil position a bit lower. I believe it's bracket is mounted with slotted holes on the chassis of the stepper unit.
