This Might be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it. Lol.
I'm cleaning up a TAF pinball and some of the coil paper wrappers are falling off and one is missing. Is it ok just to leave them off? What is the purpose of the paper coil wraps? Thanks for any info.

    #2 6 years ago

It should be OK to leave them off. They are there to identify the coil.

    #3 6 years ago

The wrapper identifies the coil part number. It also prevents stray windings from unwrapping and shorting the the metal coil bracket.

    #4 6 years ago

Thanks guys that is what I thought. The windings are all good and thight. Can I just tape the loose wrappers back with just some scotch tape? I will just leave the one wrapper off.

    #5 6 years ago

Yes, you can use tape. I use the double sided tape.

I always re-glue them with some thin super glue. I like the look. Unless they're old Gottlieb ones that are basically paper and fall apart.

    #7 6 years ago

clean coil with ultrasoncic cleaner and re-wrap with new paper. If the thin side is a little lose you can make it shorter replace any dioes and replace if needed. Its like opening up a can of worms. I would take the playfield out and put on rotesserie. IMO

You can find wrapper files on my website www.inkochnito.nl
Print them on paper with the color of your choise and cut them to size.

I just used one of Peter's files to print a Gottlieb A-5195 coil wrapper for a "Solar Ride" I'm working on.

Your kidding right, for a little paper that fell off? I would have to buy an ultrasonic cleaner and a rottiserie just to tape or glue a piece of paper around the coil.

I strip the old wrapper off, clean off any loose dirt/paper etc., left on the windings. After the old wrapper is off, you can clean the coil body with some purple power with a shop rag or paper towel and wipe it all down with 90 percent rubbing alcohol. Before I put the new coil wrappers on, I will usually wrap some 3M 467MP adhesive on the windings and then wrap the new wrapper around the coil windings, even if the new wrappers have adhesive on them. New bright color wrappers always make a restoration shopout look good.. Make sure to put a new coil sleeve in too.

    Priceless stuff.

Here is the paper I buy right off the shelf at my local Office Depot. It's made by Neenah, comes in a 50 pack, and it's 32 pound weight. Makes excellent coil wrappers.

Neenah Creative Collection item # 98712 (barcode 759598987124) multiple colors: red, orange, green, and yellow.

Neenah Creative Collection item # 91292-01 (barcode 759598912928) "Sea Glass" color (light blue) perfect for Williams coils.

Neenah Creative Collection item # 98710 (barcode 759598987100) "Avacado" color (bright green) perfect for Bally coils.

I think you can also buy it at Fedex Office (Kinko's).

I don’t see Neeham Creative Collection being stocked anymore. I picked up a spectrum pack of Neeham’s Astrobrights.

    amazon.com link »

It’s 24# which feels like a great weight vs the original tape. There are 2 oranges in the pack. I like this for a match.

    Left original, right reprint

Original. The reprint I’m using. The other orange in the pack.

You used the wroung file to repring the wrappers.
Copy the link of the wrapper file and remove the "_text" part in the link.
This will get you the file with the "W" logo.

Please read the top text of my website page.....

"Print these files on colored paper of your choice.

If you need the file(s) with the logo, copy the link and remove
the "_text" from the link to get the other file.
If you need any coil wrapper, send me an e-mail."

Ah, I've used that same brand paper I found at Walmart.
