Quoted from Kjarkur:

Do you perhaps have a link? I even don't know what the name of this kind of screw could be.

That is called a spade bolt, if you haven't gotten your answer yet.

#2010 2 years ago

Just joined the club with an OG Tobey Spidey. One owner. Spent about a year on route and been in a basement since around 08. Needs a shop job and the cab has a couple minor bumps from being moved a couple times, but all in all, very nice specimen. Spidey was one of my NIB regrets over the years. Glad to have one, finally. Gonna grab the Sandman plastic from pinball life. That and the Sandman vs Spidey plastic in the pops are the only playfield issues. Doc Ock magnet still perfect, as well.

#2012 2 years ago

3rd day of ownership and I was a few Venom shots away from lighting Super Hero. So close. Love this game. Took this pic after ball one (including the extra). 3rd Goblin and 3rd Venom were in progress.

Quoted from DCFAN:

Glad you are enjoying the game.
Get to work with some Novus 1 and 2 and see that game clean and shine up. The playfield appears to be in good shape and could probably look pretty sharp with a light cleaning removing the blackish film.

I spent a good amount of time today getting stuff cleaned and shopped out. Waiting on the replacement Sandman plastic before I can reassemble. It's all shined up. I changed out all bulbs, except for flashers, for LEDs. Hopefully, I can get by without shelling out for the LED OCD. Trying to keep costs down.

#2020 2 years ago
Quoted from DCFAN:

Unfortunately, without LEDOCD, unless you have non-ghosting LEDs SM will not look right in the inserts.

I can buy non ghosting. I think that would be cheaper. It's only about 50 bulbs on the under side.

#2022 2 years ago
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

still gonna ghost on ya i think. need the board on this one.

I've never seen the under side of the VE. Don't they use standard LEDs?

#2026 2 years ago

Anyone buy a decal set and not need the backboard decal? Mine has a bunch of burn around where the bulbs were and it won't come out with magic eraser or anything. I'd love to buy just that decal. Don't need the whole set.

Thanks,
RC

About 90% done with my Spidey refresh. Waiting on Cliffies and gotta do flipper rebuilds. While placing my pinball life order, I noticed they have a new LED. Economy Ghostbusters. I grabbed 100 wedge and 100 bayonet. I'm happy to report that there is no ghosting in the game now. There is some super fast flicker when, A) the villain arrows in the center are not at full brightness or B) when a white arrow is lit for a shot multiplier. I can live with that. Kinda what happens in AIQ during certain points of the lightshow, if you are familiar.
The comet retros I put in there before (regular, not non ghosting) were ghosting like crazy. I always order from comet, but I gotta say, these PBL bulbs impressed me.

Question about the start of Bank Bust or whatever the second Dock Ock mode is on the VE. I've noticed 3 separate behaviors between my game and others and videos. At the start, the ball is held on the magnet, as it should. Then, a ball is auto launched, as it should. Next, one of three things happen:

A) ball goes to pops
B) ball goes to Sandman scoop, as if a lock was made from the right orbit
C) ball goes all the way around and to the left sling/flipper area

So, which is correct? Is my diverter iffy?

Anyone have one of these behaviors be consistent? I've seen all 3 on videos of other Spidey games. I searched youtube and I paid close attention after seeing it be inconsistent on mine.

#2031 2 years ago
Quoted from vikeking27:

Anything I should check if every so often a ball doesn’t register that it drained? I can usually nudge the game a bit and it will pick it up. Clean trough opto? I’ve got new balls in the game too.

Check for magnetized balls, divots in the trough that could hang the balls up and that the physical switches are moving freely and registering in switch test. Also, just making sure it's clean in there, too.

#2032 2 years ago

I reached and beat Super Hero today. WOOT! What a rush. Thank you Bowen tutorial. Time to turn off extra ball and put locks on hard settings.

#2035 2 years ago
Quoted from Lawtalkinguy:

Stoked the new Spider-Man movie includes Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and possibly Defoe’s Green Goblin! Increased interest ($$$) in 07 Spider-Man perhaps?

That trailer looks very interesting. Can't wait to see the movie. Guess I got in right under the wire.

#2036 2 years ago
Quoted from bobukcat:

Mine always launches the other ball all the way around the top loop and over towards my left flipper.

Thanks. I found the rulesheet and that seems to be the expected behavior. I have done all topside stuff and rebuilt all flippers. Next, I'll check to see if whatever activates that diverter is having issues. Maybe gunked up or something. I think those things use the small coils that don't need a sleeve, but will find out.

Quoted from Ceckitti:

Ok..... so Im not an owner (yet). I have the opportunity to pick up a Spiderman. They have 2 for sale and I get to pick one. Here is the catch. One is in worse shape than the other. And there is a decent price difference in the 2.
Im going to deep dive into both to see what each needs to help with my decision.
From what I know so far....both have been heavy routed. Both cabinets seem in similar decent shape with almost the same blemishes. Both seem to have no issues with sandman or Doc ock.
Game 1 - VERY VERY VERY dirty, display is working but on its last leg. (I have a few spare NOS displays so thats not a problem)
Game 2 - also dirty but no where near as bad as the other.
My question.... is there anything spider man specific that I should look for/check? Ive played the game a good amount, but not familiar with its ins and outs.
Thanks for any help.

Sandman plastic is likely broken on both, but available from PBL. If the really dirty one has no playfield damage on the Doc Ock magnet, I'd get that one to save money. Sterns of this vintage clean up remarkably well. Recently did a full topside teardown on mine and it is pretty straightforward. Just take lots of pics as you go.

Not sure how tall this guy is, but he matches the new alt translite. Alt version looks really nice.

Quoted from Turtlepower169:

Had to search hard. HUO 900 plays from Florida. Any idea on current market value? Not many to compare.

HUO, probably 6K ish. With what today's new games are going for, Spidey is a hell of a lot of game for the price. I wouldn't put too much stock in the amount of plays, unless it's on whatever code it shipped with. SAM games reset plays on updating code.

#2147 2 years ago
Quoted from Turtlepower169:

Finally got spidey black shopped out.
Does LED OCD make a huge difference on this one? I know it does LOTR
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I really love that backglass on Spidey Black. I like the original cabinet over the black version though. Would be really nice if someone would do a translite version of the Spidey Black backglass. Insert take my money meme.

#2148 2 years ago
Quoted from Turtlepower169:

It had original code. Updated that thing real quick. I'm seeing regular spiderman go for 6-6500. It's all crazy

Whoops, I'm a dingbat. I didn't realize you were asking about value on the HUO Black Spidey. Hard to tell on those since they don't come up for sale often.

Quoted from ledzepp79use:

Hi all! Spider-Man is my first Pin purchase and is currently the only table I own. I picked it up last spring and have been having an absolute blast playing it. I've been having an issue though. Has anyone ever experienced balls sticking at the right orbit behind that spring gate that's located next to Dock Ock and the "lock" insert? It's happening to me frequently enough to be annoying. Balls will nestle and get stuck at that gate and won't come loose without nudging the table. I've already verified that the table is level and have the pitch of the table a little steeper than level, with the bubble touching the top line. At first I thought that maybe the balls had become magnetized and were sticking there against the metal lane guide becasue, but new balls did not fix the issue so now I don't think it's a magnetism issue. After having closely examined the area and manually recreating the issue, now I'm thinking it might be becasue the "lock" insert that is located right there is just ever so slightly raised above the surface of the playfield surrounding it. It's very minor but might be just enough to hold a ball in place that happens to nestle perfectly between the metal lane guide and insert behind that spring gate. Any thoughts or ideas on this and what I might be able to do to correct it?

Is the little one way mini gate bent down or too far to the right causing a ball trap? You can check for magnetization of the balls with lightweight paper clips.

Has anyone tried loading the Vault code on the standard edition?

I know the opposite has been tried and does not work. I believe, due to board revision mismatch.

Anyone need any of the decals in this set?

https://www.pinballlife.com/spider-man-full-playfield-playfield-decal-set.html

I only need the big back panel decal and $50 is a tough pill to swallow for that. Happy to split the set with someone if others need other decals. I'll be ordering it, either way lol.

#2208 2 years ago

Installed a colorDMD yesterday. Followed the instructions. Apparently Spidey and few others need an extended rom. It says it is supposed to overwrite my product key and I'm supposed to re enter it afterward. The game seems to be functioning normal, but the product key did not get overwritten and a couple of the scenes look like they are maybe not full color. Could just be my eyes. Anyone install the LED version and was there any issues? It also could be that the procedure is an old one and not needed on the current gen colorDMDs. It's a bit confusing.

#2210 2 years ago
Quoted from Rickwh:

I have the colorDMD. Led version in my SMVE. Didnt have any issues. Is yours original spidey or SMVE?

It's original. There's a note on the site for original Spidey and 3 other games that need this procedure.

https://www.colordmd.com/extended_roms.html

#2215 2 years ago
Quoted from embryon:

Only needed if for the older versions of colordmd. If you just purchased, this should not apply to you

Sweet, thanks for the confirmation. I was thinking that may be the case, but couldn't really tell based on the verbiage on the site. This is my first ever colorDMD. Glad I sprung for it.

#2219 2 years ago
Quoted from Runswithscissors:

Center ramp question
I finally finished my Spider-Man resurrection. I basically removed everything off the top of the playfield, then cleaned and repaired all the things. The machine plays great, between the new rubber, new pinballs, clean playfield and rebuilt flippers, it is crazy fast. I'm having an odd issue with the center ramp. When I backhand a shot up the center ramp, about half the time, when it's supposed to drop down onto the left wire ramp, it spins out and bounces off some of the plastic parts before falling back onto the playfield. It doesn't seem to hurt anything but I would like to figure out a way to stop it happening. It only happens when I backhand it up with the left flipper, so I'm assuming that it's due to a lot of backspin on the ball.
Has anybody seen this before? How did you deal with it? Maybe I should call it a feature and learn to appreciate it.
In case you're not sure where I'm talking about, it's supposed to drop in at this spot:[quoted image]

Any chance you didn't place the forks of the wireform into the metal transition part of the plastic ramp? I could see that causing a fast ball to hop up high enough to pop off the wireform. That's my best guess.

I like the one that automatically dims when you are playing a game, it's awesome at further reducing glare.

That's one thing I love about Spike. You can set you backbox GI to almost nothing during gameplay. I go with 60% for attract and 30% for game play.

Quoted from rwmech5:

Black suit is a 3 ball mutiball but you usually end up starting doc ock too which gives the 4th ball. Check your trough switches for correct ball count and the out kicker to make sure it's not missing a launch.

To pile onto this, also check to see if the balls are magnetized. Magnetized balls can cause all kinds of wonkiness, including this behavior. It was happening on my Walking Dead and new balls fixed the issue. I was getting 4 balls in prison and there was no blood bath stack.

Hey all. I’ve owned 2 SM reds in the past thinking about buying another one but maybe a VE. Haven’t played it too much but I heard that people dislike the callouts. Is this a dealbreaker? Is there a custom callous remix available?

If you are at all nostalgic for the Toby movies, you won't be happy with the vault.

#2346 1 year ago
Quoted from PinFever:

not sure. but also unsure why people think the Vault is better than the original . and also does anyone not think Spiderman which is a Premium pin all day long does not net worth the NIB premium Stern price of over 9 k... Spidey is one of the remaining deals ever.. And a Spiderman black under 9 K WTF buy that all day long kind sir!!!!! Original SM for the win !!!

This game is my favorite Steve Ritchie. OG for the win, also. The only reason I can guess that the VE goes for more $$ is that it launched at a higher price. That move by Stern really bugged me. At the time, OG Spidey was selling for around $5K to $5500ish which was ~30% higher than brand new pricing. I got a heads up that a vault was coming with comic art and I was hopeful I'd finally be able to get one. At the time, I didn't own the game because I didn't wanna pay more than new pricing. So, what does good old Stern do, but release the new vault at like $6500 premium pricing, at the time. Screwed again. The only thing the VE has going for it over the OG is crisper and cleaner art.

#2347 1 year ago
Quoted from hiker2099:

I love it too. I keep thinking of selling it because it is my only non-modern pin in my home. Trading up is tempting. Callouts are priceless.

Spidey is a modern game.

Quoted from grantopia:

Hoping someone can help me iron out some issues on a spider man I just picked up. Was cleaning up the cabinet inside and noticed this wire on the back panel wasn’t soldered on with the exception of a black wire to the right panel flasher. Any ideas where this goes?
[quoted image][quoted image]

Looks like it is the power and ground for that flasher. It should terminate to a 2 pin IDC connector and plug in somewhere under the playfield with a matching connector. I'd bet the connector is still connected, but those wires pulled out.

#2372 1 year ago
Quoted from grantopia:

Any chance you could follow yours and see where it goes? Nothing is jumping out at me. Where is the red lead soldered to on the flasher?

Just checked mine. The flasher does not have a wire harness as I was thinking. If that wire is soldered to the flasher, it may be a mod someone tapped into the flasher to accommodate.

Quoted from mrossman5:

This is pretty common, at least with my machine.

Ditto, on mine. A fast moving ball on the left orbit can and will skip straight to the WEB lanes. I haven't had a right orbit get past the post and come down the left side, that I can recall, though.

#2390 11 months ago

How consistent is everyone's bank bust start sequence? Mine never works right. It should fire a ball, from the shooter lane, all the way around to the left flipper, but mine always goes into the Sandman vuk. I do have mine a tad high, regarding pitch. I don't know the actual degrees, but the bubble is a little past the top line on the shooter lane level.

#2397 11 months ago
Quoted from bobukcat:

I don't think mine has ever failed to get the ball around the loop to the left flipper. Check alignment of the forks on the autolauncher and ensure they are not making the ball rattle by not hitting it flush.

Quoted from mrossman5:

This may not be it but I’ve found with the earlier SAM games, the plunger is pushing the ball a little too far up the lane which makes the auto launch not have as much power as it should. An easy way to check is to slightly pull the plunger back and see if the ball moves down and makes full contact with the forks. I fixed the issue by adding some washers to the front cabinet part of the shooter.

I'll check both of these suggestions tonight. Thanks for the tips.

Quoted from cheezywhiz:

I got 3 balls stuck in the sandman VUK during a 4 ball multiball. (Vault edition if it matters.)
The sandman target bank was open, but sandman was down. The machine tried over and over to kick them out but couldn’t make it happen. Eventually it gave up and displayed an operator alert. Took me a ton of effort with chopsticks to kick two balls back out of the lock feed (I don’t have a magnet on a stick gizmo yet — would have made this much easier)
Normal issue for this machine?
Any advice on how to recover from this in the middle of a game without losing your multiball?

I'd say that is a rarity. At most, I've gotten 2 in there and it deals with that fairly easily.

Mid game, I'd say open the door, pull the glass and place the balls in the shooter lane after retrieving them with the magnet that I'm sure you have on order by now. There is also a good one at Harbor Freight if you want to get one asap.

#2457 9 months ago
Quoted from cheezywhiz:

I have not ordered one yet, but I should. Can you link the Harbor Freight one you're talking about?

New to the SM owning family!
Silly question: has anyone ever tried downloading SMVE Roms on a SM original game?
If so… did it work and/or were you happy with the end results (the carton animations)?

It does not work. The new game has more stuff and the lower amount of ram on the older rev Sam board can't accept it. That's the gist from what I recall.

#2463 8 months ago
Quoted from mrossman5:

Just heard a new callout while starting Black Suit multiball. I hadn’t heard before after 250+ games. “A couple more balls and you can hang with me!” Ha! Love this game.

Sweet. I haven't ever heard that one, either.

Quoted from pacman11:

Anyone know where I can get a chrome coin door at?

You'll likely have to have yours chromed. You may find someone selling a door they had done, but I don't believe that anyone sells a stock chrome door. Chrome is pretty but leaves marks and prints like crazy. That's my nitpicky issue with Black Spidey.
