Thanks for the replies guys, I will give it a shot. I guess I will do it without the led ocd for now and I can add it later if I don’t like how it turns out.

If helpful, I am shopping an SM out and when it came to GI, sunlight, frosted white LEDs were the winner when comparing all three types of white LEDs. There are pictures in that thread: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/professor-pinball-putting-spidey-back-into-an-sm#post-5223497

Screen Shot 2019-10-03 at 6.09.45 AM (resized).pngLeaving the Spiderman club this week as i have swapped for a Pinball Magic. Just could never grow to love the game or post a half decent score. Machine has been at mine for a couple of months and no-one has gotten onto the high score board here.
Sorry to see you leave the club but happy someone new will be joining. I left the club twice before realizing this is a top 2 pin for me.
May just be that i'm too inexperienced to tune it properly but have tried adjusting the playfield angle up and down, leveling and cleaning and waxing.

I feel a lot like this, and I love Spidey, not so much the gameplay. It’s ok, but my 6 year old boy won’t let me sell it.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. I just read through the linked post. Now I have to figure out how to do those addressable LEDs after watching that youtube video you made. That was incredible.

Glad you like that and I can't wait to finish the programming for addressable LEDs in SM. That is a replacement of the GI and if you are interested in doing that, send me a PM. Happy to chat about what it takes to do.
Just when I thought my pimped spidy was done, I found a Matt Mckee topper and Big Laws three lighted figures! At least my son and I got to put a few hours playing before removing the figures to be modded. I will post pics when completed.

How are you guys dealing with Doc Ock Rejects? Bending the back bracket down a bit? I have a Cliffy on the Doc's hole.

First, make sure the magnet is not causing the ball to get airborne and hit the blue foam when doc ock is up positioned. If the magnet is not level with the playfield it will cause this. Then put drop dead foam in the back. If that does not solve it then look to possibly bend down on the bracket a little. You should not get any bounceouts if it is right.

I'll check all of these things. I get rejects on medium to fast shots and it can be frustrating when I'm combing and want to nail the Doc shot but it comes screaming out.

Do you have a Cliffy on the magnet in front of Doc? If so, just put a small piece of mylar in front of it so it's not a big bump for the ball to bounce up and hit the blue rubber on Doc.

It's not a great picture but hopefully it gives you an idea of how they look

I've done that already

When I owned my original, a bit of drop dead foam and a small tweak got it 100%. Now with my vault, I couldn't get it for the life of me. Tried bending, foam (multiple types), checking the magnet level, etc and no matter what it was rejecting nearly 50% of shots. Almost made me light it on fire. Finally determined it was the factory "cliffy" they added to the hole for the vault. Even with how thin it is, it was just enough to get the ball to hop. I ended up taking that off, adding a thin strip of mylar in its place (probably not needed at home), and it's been about 95% good since. I will still get one to hop out once in a great while, but it's rare.

I would say 50% of straight fast shots reject for me. I'll try adding a "step" with mylar in front of the Cliffy if the other workarounds don't help.

Are you using the metal cliffy or the carbon fiber cliffy? The metal ones tend to lift up or sit higher.
Quoted from DCFAN:Are you using the metal cliffy or the carbon fiber cliffy? The metal ones tend to lift up or sit higher.
I'm pretty sure it's the metal cliffy. I added a piece of mylar to smooth the transition in front of the magnet, but not in front of the hole.
Quoted from FatPanda:I'm pretty sure it's the metal cliffy. I added a piece of mylar to smooth the transition in front of the magnet, but not in front of the hole.
I was referring to the a magnet cliffy. I don’t think with SM a cliffy has been needed by many for the hole.
I recommend trying the carbon fiber cliffy for the magnet if you presently have a metal magnet cliffy there. You can tell the difference because the carbon fiber one is black.

I'd have to take a look. I can't recall from memory. I'm pretty sure it's the metal one.
A big shoutout biglaw for theses three bad ass figures he created. Finally finished my Spidy, I think its loaded and the nicest Ive seen or played. Just got done installing biglaws figures and the ultra rare Matt Mckee topper

Here is a better alternative:
http://passionforpinball.com/tourney.htm
You don't want a tourney button on the lockdown bar where you are always bumping it on accident or having to disconnect, run the wire through the lockdown bar receiver just to remove the lockdown bar and then going through the reverse process to put the lockdown bar back on and reconnect the button. After having to resolder my tourney button wires for the second time I thought....."There has to be a better way!"....and there is: Add the button to your coindoor in it's own recessed hole and forget about the ongoing hassles of having the button on the lockdown bar and it's disconnecting and reconnecting hassle every time you want to remove the lockdown bar.
I'm not only an endorser..... I'm a partial inventor of it. Dougie's first mod idea and it's still on my Black Spider-Man to this very day.

Don't stern do this now anyway. I know they removed this button completely from my spidey which was in the last run
Quoted from embryon:Don't stern do this now anyway. I know they removed this button completely from my spidey which was in the last run
Well they started adding a recessed square hole right under the start button for the tourney button in later SAM / SPIKE 1 games. On SPIKE 2 games they still have a hole for the tourney button under that start button, but it's not recessed....so it makes it so if you add the "classic" tourney start button on them.....they stick out and look like they shouldn't be there.
What Stern needs to do now is to make a low profile "Tournament Start" button that is made like their SPIKE 2 "Start" buttons. There is an ongoing discussion on that here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stern-tournament-button-spike-system-2
Also.....I believe the tourney button was only included on Black Spider-Man from the factory.......and possibly Canadian or international games as it seems they still include them on Canadian games where the US games get the blank hole under the start button. Who knows how Canada negotiated this special treatment.
The games that have the cabinets made with the square, recessed holes under the start button seem to be the best solution in my opinion. What I never understood was when people with those style of games would deck out their games with hundreds of dollars of mods and not pay the $5 to add the tourney button to fill the ugly square hole that was made for it. Even if you don't hook it up.......it still looks better than a blank, black plug in a hole. Also....those tourney systems used to cost hundreds of dollars extra as an add-on item from Stern. Now they are built into the game system. You might as well spring the extra $5 for the button to have the option to use it.
