There are lots of great people on Pinside and I'm hoping one of them in the Cleveland area can help me by lending me a multi-meter for one day.

I volunteer time working with science kids in a national competition called Science Olympiad. I'm helping to run an event this Saturday where over 800 kids will come to compete. The event I'm running for the kids is called Windpower - the kids construct in advance a wind power blade assembly mounted on a CD, and on the day of the competition they mount that blade assembly onto a test jig and spin it using the air from an electric fan. What I need to be able to do is measure the maximum DC voltage created by that spinning blade assembly in a 30 second testing period.

To run this event I need one more multi-meter that is capable of recording and displaying the peak voltage measured during the 30 second measuring period. Such a meter may have a function on it labeled “peak hold” or “max hold” (not just “Hold”, that’s something different) or Min/Max. I would be the only one using the meter, the kids will just observe the displayed value.

If anyone can help, please send me a PM immediately. I'll drive anywhere in the Cleveland area today or tomorrow to pick up the meter for use all day on Saturday, and then again to return the meter to the owner.

    Thanks for reading.

    Quoted from GPS:

Your PM indicates it is an inexpensive Harbor Freight model, so it is extremely unlikely to have “peak hold”, “max hold” (not just “Hold”, that’s something different) or Min/Max functions, or it might have a resolution on the DC voltage that is too poor (would like 1mv at 4vDC).

My Fluke 77 doesn't have this feature, wish I had gotten the Fluke 73 instead.

But I do appreciate your reply.

Pinsider Boiler415 has come thru for me with a meter loan!

It was great to meet him and play some of the immaculate games he has, and I hope to return the favor by having him over to play the games in my collection.

    Pinside people rock!
