Replacing the ramps on the WCS I bought and giving it a good cleaning. There is ... something ... on the play field. Especially by the pops. Any idea what it is an best way to remove?

    Magic Eraser and 91% alcohol

That will strip the topcoat. I wouldn't resort to that right off the bat.

Is it gooey? Hard? Does it crumble? Does it flex or move at all? Can you pick at it?

Looks like ground in bits of rubber. I'd use lighter fluid on a rag or paper towel.

Hmm. What does it taste like?

    It’s very hard.

I’ve tried naptha and it did nothing at all. Did novus 2 and it helped a bit. Used a plastic razor blade and chipped away at it a bit in some spots.

You need to go with the most gentle thing that will clean it and progress only if needed. I cant tell what it is exactly, but here are my suggestions...and in this order.

Vacuum, use a dry soft cloth to wipe it, use a soft wooden tool (like a popsicle stick or an emory board) to remove hard crusting, novus 2, 91% alcohol, magic eraser.

oh, man. it’s simple. that’s schmutz! fingernail and some spit. stay persistent. this would have been my grandmother’s advice, and her house was usually tip-top!

Have you tried the space laser?

My preferred cleaner is Gojo hand cleaner and a paper towel. Doesn't hut the top coat but make sure you wax after. Stuff works like magic. They sell it at autozone but make sure it is the "original formula" or you can get stuff that strips paint.

A little bit of this stuff on a paper towel is usually all you need.

Amazon has it too but in quantities that would last decades.

Try Novus 2 again, with some more elbow grease

Yes, you have that, but I was considering that it is located on a part of the playfield that does not get any ball action. No matter what method he uses, he will most likely still remove the topcoat. So clean it, wax it it and install the post back.
