I just aquired a NOS transligth thats been in a frame since day one....and its now going to be put into my game but it needs to be cleaned. I dont want to scratch it up with using anything too harsh so whats the best thing to use on the front side ? The back is clean as can be. Thanks.

Maybe compressed air to start, gently blowing off the surface dust?

After that, I would use a damp towel and blot off the remaining dust. I would guess that since there is no wiping involved, there should be very little if any chance of scratching.

Thanks for the help. Does anyone else have any other proven methods to add to it?

I use the monster screen clean stuff on my pin for the glass translight and all that stuff... comes with a cloth and the solution is non abrasive and lifts dirt away... one of my favorite products.

But I'm not cleaning the glass I'm cleaning the translight front itself. Its not really dusty dirty as its been in the frame from day one but it has more like moisture stains on the front from maybe being in a damp area. Hard to see but its there and since I looked for three years for this translight I want it to be really nice once installed. I dont want to take any chances by using the wrong thing or method as it was very hard to find.

I just did the same thing yesterday. My scared stiff translight had a layer of spots on it. I used wwindex and a microfiber cloth, changing the area of the cloth I was using often. It worked fine, I don't see any scratches.

You can bet if any of the usual pin part vendors sold water or any commercial glass cleaner in a bottle marked "pinball translight cleaner" people would buy them up all day for forty bucks a bottle.

Here's what I use along with the same company's microfiber glass cleaning cloths. Also available in a combo kit to save money.

An experienced tech told me Lemon Pledge on EVERYTHING. He said it won't melt inks but this was a while back and I don't know what it might do to a modern printed translite. Guess you have to know whether the ink is water based or oil based.
