What is the best media to use to clean our grungy, nasty parts? I want to try this as an alternative to hand polishing with scour pads and sandpaper stages.

Don't to be so aggressive as to remove the zinc plating, but need to get the crud off.

    thoughts?

ultrasonic cleaner, tumbler and/or buffing wheel.

You can do soda blasting and leave the chrome and zinc intact.

Or use Evapo-Rust. There are a couple threads on it. Stuff is magic with legs and bars and has zero abrasive components.

or Klean-Strip Phosphoric Prep & etch. Available from Home Depot. I use a 4" pvc pipe with a sealed cap on one end, filled with 1 maybe 2 gallons of prep & etch. Soak then rinse with water then towel dry. Does not attack chrome or the base steel. Rust is dissolved and the bare steel has a light grey/black oxide (good oxide) coating that is easily polished out.
