What's your process?
I plan to relabel them, so peeling the old label off is not a problem.
I also have an ultrasonic cleaner that I could use, but I'm afraid of cleaning off the enamel coating on the wire and ruining the coils.

Purple Power and a small brush. Tooth brush works great.
Good rinse.
Then use compressed air to blow them dry. Takes quite a bit of air to really dry them, since water gets in behind all the windings.
I’ve gotten good result using ultrasonic and simple green. No issues so far, but I’m curious if any one has had problems losing enamel off windings and causing shorts.

Ultrasonic cleaner does not harm winding or enamel.
I don't usually clean pinball coils in US cleaner, but I have done many DC motor armatures from jukeboxes etc, that are full of carbon dust from the brushes mixing with gummed 50 year old lubricants.

Depends on chemicals you use in the cleaner.
I used it for stripping paint off of brass model steam engines. 1/2 water 1/2 ammonia worked great at paint removal.
