There is no contact installed in that position on my machine.

Not a great picture because I took it from a video. I've restored two of these machines, neither had a shoe in that position. I didn't see any dysfunction with the Name feature that spells out world series on the backglass.

I seem to remember getting this question before from Boilerman as he did not have a wiper pin there also.

If you look at that shoe in your picture, you can tell that it is not the same style as the other ones. That makes me think that an owner installed a shoe in the empty space, thinking that it was supposed to be populated.
