I believe that’s a spacer that is part of the ball trap kit; should go underneath the high wire ramp to raise it up a touch.

Thankyou very much. Can I trouble someone for a picture...of course I missed it in the 500 I took pulling down!

Not sure who Ron is??? Playfield mirco and plating is Chris.

You’re welcome. I’ll try to snap a picture tonight.

Some of the posts are in and mechanisms are going through Ultrasonic and then tumbling.

Quite a bit of dirt and grease. And a bunch of parts to them.

Hi guys. Getting along with restore. New playfield has this hole? Original didn't but some googling I do see it on other pkayfields as well. What goes there? Its in ball travel path! Thanks in advance.

#57 6 years ago

Is that for the disappearing post ? Guess not as neither my Mirco or orignal had it.

#58 6 years ago

Some updates: mechanisms are almost all completely clean and ready to put back together. Top side is pretty close. Most posts are red with exception of sling area and one or two others. White rubbers were used. Need to check rubber set up as what the manual shows is one of the worst I've seen that's wrong and not sure if it was right from how it came apart either. Juggler metal is chrome from Chris at HRA. sc93cobra

Well, that hole is not in my original but is on the new Mirco.

Highclasspinball mirco, what is this extra hole?

I just got my Micro back from Kruzman and it’s insanely nice. But I also have the extra hole...which I need to figure out how big of a problem that is...

So, yeah, it’s right in the ball path and when the sideshow is not lit, that’s your left orbit, so, solution needed.

Is someone crafty enough to 3D print a plug for this? Just needs to be flush, it’s not visible to the player at all, so color and material probably is not important. Base needs to be wider so it can be affixed.

Any takers?

I've made a plug out of a cut down adjusting post and polished it up. Removable but will do the job nicely for now.
Adjustable plate to hold it underneath.

Agreed, great job and good idea. Can't believe I didn't notice this. Have either of you took a ball and saw if it actually contacts that area? I haven't but looking it will if not plugged.

I'm not sure if this helps but I checked my CV last night and there is no hole on mine.

Quoted from Turtle:

Confirmed that my original does not have a hole as well.

#68 6 years ago

Is replacing the cabinet and PF considered to be a "refresh"?

It's more like a copy with some original parts from a donor game.

#69 6 years ago

Sounds like a restoration to me

#70 6 years ago

Very nice restoration so far

Because i also ordered a playfield for my Cirqus Voltaire i asked Mirco about the unnecessary hole. He told me that it’s just in the first runs of this playfield, because his original CV board had this hole.

#71 6 years ago

Refresh is just a term I’ve used on other machines that I didn’t replace most everything on but you’re right. I use that word as I am hobbyist and no pro so wouldn’t want to call my work a restoration.

And good to know about hole OlDirty

Few pics of showing the hole really should be plugged.

No biggie, just a semantic quibble.

It's nice that people are taking so much excellent care of these games nowadays.

If a game shows up with a really truly fubared palyfield and cabinet, it's nice to have the option of replacing them.

That hole is weird. Obviously a mistake. might want to tell the guy who make the PF so he doesn't repeat the mistake on the next batch.

#73 6 years ago

My playfield is the prototype that says "tickle the ringmaster"

#74 6 years ago

Slowly getting there on my restore.
What about the hole with the disappearing post middle back....post sits well down how does the ball not get caught there? Checked online and it seems normal setup.

It has the post there and the “contact patch” of the ball doesn’t fall into it. The other hole could hold a ball there for slow rolling ball. It actually holds the ball pretty well in the hole in question.

Wondering what would normally fill this hole on the early games and what was the intent of it.

Great looking progress BTW!

Folks,

What’s the method you’re using to pre-drill the top of the PF for the metal wire guides that are on top? CV has a bunch of them and I’m wondering what drill bit sizes folks are using and how they’re tapping them in without cracking any clear.

Thanks!

It doesn’t get caught there. And if it did, ball search would take care of it.

Marc, I use a brad point bit and if I don’t have that size I slowly creep up on the drill bit. Have a machinist friend that has given me tons of drill bits so has been helpful. Vid has some good recommendations and Kruzman sells a kit which I should’ve bought by now. I’ve cracked my share but fortunately nothing too bad or was covered by parts, etc. I’ve had good luck though on CV. Only the two guides below the flippers are left.

For drilling out the guides, do you use a bit smaller than the guide, or do you try to match the circumference of the ball guide and let the barb do the work?

#81 6 years ago

Not many pics to share as most of the time has been getting all the mechanisms cleaned, polished and assembled. And found parts needed replaced, riveted new eject plastics on mechs, etc. Hoping to start getting things put back on and have it done by Christmas.

I try and find a size smaller than the guide but a bit. Obviously, too large and the guide won’t stay. The “protrusions” on the guides on CV will bite into the wood and didn’t crack entering through the clear in my case.

I use a small rubber mallet with dual ends. I use these with plastic vs rubber but either will work fine. Spent previous life as office furniture installation foreman and it’s worked well for me with this setup.

To the left of the leftmost juggler hole there is a decorative plastic on top, a black spacer, and this clear plastic. I don’t have a clear picture, but that’s where it goes.

#91 6 years ago

Been slow progress but have most mechs together and installed. Have been stalled due to finding some parts needed replaced I didn’t catch early. I’ve used an adjustable magnet core for the juggler. I don’t think the upper playfield has room for one but it’s an easy to reach replacement if needed.

Started on cleaning the wire harnesses in the ultrasonic but still have two more to do. Things should start moving quickly once they’re in.

Nice work!

I am at a similar stage with you. I have a different arrangement of rubber on my left side/menagerie than you do - I wonder which way is correct. Maybe I’m wrong! I’ll need to look and see what the consensus is!

Nearly done now, need help getting it off the rotisserie and into the cab, and have the diverter and rear magnet to install once it’s free of the rotisserie mounting points. And then testing and tweaking. I am excited to get this wrapped up! It’s been a fun swap and I have learned a ton in the process as this is only my second restoration and this one went quite differently.

Awesome and looks great. Understand about the parts left off. I’m considering leaving both ringmaster and pop bumper mech out to save some weight putting back in too. That and they really hang down.

Never would know it was your second as it looks fantastic. And this machine is certainly different. Lots of parts to strip completely down to clean/rebuild.

#96 6 years ago

Looks very nice! Did everything fit well on the playfield (all the holes in the correct position)? I'm also doing a CV restoration with a Mirco playfield and would like to know before, if i need to be prepared for some missalignment.

#97 6 years ago

I’ll let MSCHONBRUN comment or anyone else, but most everything thus far on mine has been ok other than that hole that needs plugged in back. I’ve found some of the dimples off on back but haven’t ever found one perfect anyway. Just nitpicking.

#98 6 years ago

And in the cabinet!

The ringmaster is hard to get at when in the cabinet. My advice is to get a friend to help you install it and do as much as you can on the rotisserie.

Most of the rear dimples were OK. From memory:

If it was a lamp PCB or a subway ramp; they were perfect.

The flipper plate holes were mostly off, but you can’t mess it up since the bushing hole is all the matters.

The GI was mostly just a suggestion and not critical, was also mostly wrong.

All in all, nothing big or hard to deal with. You just have to go slowly and test fit everything.
