Circus Queen mystery

While trying to fine tune the old Circus Queen today, my partner and I ran in to a problem we have yet to figure out. The payouts were starting to get a little screwy so we were concentrating on the search index switch adjustments and the control unit changeover switches 15A, 15-B. It all looked pretty good as far as in line scoring and section scoring. The OK seemed to start fine also, although we did have a couple of instances where the Magic screen and super section failed to light. But... if we had 3 or 4 lit in the OK, with the “3 or more in orange scores as green” lit, it would payout ( even if you had already collected green elsewhere) without stopping, ever, without a good swift tilt or power down. Any ideas on this one?
It’s got us baffled......

My first thought is that the green replay counter needs attention, but have you verified which odds position on the green is causing the problem? All?

You have also mentioned sectional scoring is working properly, but if memory serves, the only difference is enabling another section/search to score.

Can you please verify that no other green payout in 3/4/5 scores improperly?

Others may have a better answer, but I suspect the green replay counter/odds discs of needing adjustment or cleaning.

Thank you for your advice bingopodcast. I can’t get back to the machine until tomorrow, but I will check out the green replay counter first. I’m pretty darn sure that no other 3/4/5 green payouts scored improperly, but I will also verify that. You mentioned “odds discs” you are talking about the green score unit, is that right ?

No problem, but I could certainly be wrong.

Yes, I mean the green score unit.

can you confirm/clarify the "even if you scored in green elsewhere" part?

for example, if you scored 3-in-green correctly already then moved screen to be a 3-in-orange, does that pay or do you need it to be a higher score in orange?

usually a runway payout that happens on specific lines/sections is caused by poor wiper->rivet contact on the search disc.

if it is a problem with orange section runaway paying when it should pay, check the rivet that wiper I on the search disc is touching (outer ring of rivets, position 29). Clean rivet, verify wiper finger has decent pressure on the rivet, and if necessary check the rivet is connected to the 13-2 wire lug (spaghetti wire on back is well soldered to rivet).

if you had a 3-in-green paid and you then detected a 3-in-orange after moving the screen, you've got a more interesting problem. The stepped-up green replay counter shouldn't allow a further 3-in-green/orange pay to detect.

I've seen that problem with the wiper I more than once. I recently saw another runaway pay issue caused by the stepper not fully resetting the arm or whatever that's called so the ratchet was never engaged and thus it never stepped the score unit. Boy I bet operators loved those headaches.

I apologize for holding up this post, but was just able to get back to the Circus Queen today.... My partner went to a Bike Rally and so on.......
We tested several times today and it did pay correctly with only 3 in orange or would not pay if green had been collected already, as it should. We had trouble when we (placed) 4 in orange, runaway payouts even after collecting “in line “ green
scores. Also at one point even started the OK game by holding down the collect button during runaway payout.....we are still a bit baffled. Sorry again for the hold up .
