I vote for the cabinet art to stay exactly like the original. Alot of gray is fine.

Yep, love that original gray cab. Its iconic and you know what it is just by a quick glance

They only made nine of them, let's not get carried away

I wouldn't mind a (tasteful) change in art. I think the gray looks drab -- just my 2 cents worth. I also think I'll buy it no matter what you slap on the sides or backglass... because I have an illness. And there's only one prescription!

#103 5 years ago

Why change a really good thing. Simple elegance. Excuse my French.

#104 5 years ago

Played several rounds on it at Expo, feels solid by and large. First for me seeing a ball caught on a spinner! My thoughts are leave the cabinet art as is, it's a remake not a total makeover. My wife loves it too!

my only complain is maybe the yellow button, will love get chrome one

Quoted from pkiefert:

The playfield layout will stay exactly the same as the original. You will be able to play the original ROMs on the game too, in addition to an updated graphics/code version. Owners will pick when they turn the game on if they want to play the Classic version or the updated version.
Feedback on gameplay has been very positive, including from those that own or have played originals.

This is a reasonable question. Most of these items we are update/adding have little to do with the main development of the game. Meaning they do not affect the timeline. In fact, some may accelerate the time line. Adding updated code and graphics does take some time, but again, most of that can be done in tandem with pre-production of the game, so it's mostly overlap in project time, not extending it.

Most of the comments we've had as far as constructive criticism has been directed towards the art. Both the original art and the new art. With the original artwork there have been comments about the cabinet art and all of the grey on it. And there are those that have seen the updated art by Dave Christensen that hate that art.
Dave's art needs some cleanup and recoloring. As well as making the ladies on the art a little younger as Dave is in his 70s and drew them like the ladies his age.
The cabinet art we are looking at changing the grey by adding something like a Chicago Skyline. We are not sure if both sets of art will be available on all models, or if we will just do Daves art on a special edition or something.
Overall, all of what we look at as enhancements have to make sense. Meaning we are not just going to change something for the sake of changing something.
The gist of how we look at this game is that we don't consider it a "remake" since it was never released. So we are shooting for a good balance of respecting the original and also what would they have done differently if they built it today. These are mostly cosmetic changes as the playfield geometry and layout will be identical to the original. And you'll be able to play the original code as I mentioned before.
It helps that both the original artist Stan and the game designer Mark Ritchie are advisors on this project. As well as several original Kingpin owners.
We are very open to constructive criticism and welcome it.
Paul

Were the original ROMs complete and stable? I'm all for purity too, but it's important to remember this was a game that was not in production and somewhat further behind where Big Bang Bar was. I've not played the prototype (and only met one person who had), but it is my understanding that not all the shots worked perfectly and that there were some errors in the last Capcom ROM.

But the art is beautiful and the playfield are highly interesting. I don't Circus Maximus a little creative license to make a coherent production-quality game. Like BBB, they are bringing Kingpin to life, and we should all welcome it. This is probably the last Capcom creation we'll ever see, as Red Line Fever was far too incomplete for even the best design teams to want to finish.

Keep up the good work, guys!

Surprisingly they were pretty good. I'd say 98% complete if I had to put a number on it.

That said, the two publicly available original ROMs for Kingpin each have a significant bug. One version you cannot tilt on. The other version is missing music during a 3 ball multi ball. I can't remember which version has which bug though.

I vote for a silhouette of a Chicago landscape backdrop to supplement the main cabinet art. I like a minimalist appearance. However, the existing cabinet art looks unfinished to my eye.

And that would be the last signed translite . #250
And now we wait.

I would rather the game, including the cabinet art to be left as original as possible.

Actually I think we have 8-10 left (I'll have to check the spreadsheet). We had a handful get damaged during shipping that I replaced from the original batch of 250, so I have to get another 8-10 signed by Stan/Mark before I can add the last of them to the store inventory.

Yep, me too. Love that gray color. Really would like to see the machine stay as true to its original design as possible.

Quoted from tonyoz:

While I gravitate toward originality, it's my understanding that King Pin was never a finished product, in the true sense. Capcom was dissolving. Employees were terminated during the game's creation. Only 9 or so examples were made.

Essentially, King Pin never advanced, as conceived, into the production of a "finished" product, under typical circumstances, where cabinet art, for example, had the luxury of refinement. For this reason, I would welcome the kinds of refinement that the original design team likely would have implemented if Capcom had remained a viable enterprise. I trust that Circus Maximus can extrapolate such artistic and functional improvements.

#115 4 years ago

I personally would change nothing. I’m sure it might be an improvement but I’m a purist. I have played the original and I think it stands; as is to be remade.

They could always make a 2. Later...

Quoted from TractorDoc:

Last week I ordered the Limited Edition Ritchie/Fukuoka signed Kingpin Translite offered online by Circus Maximus.
I bought it because I like the theme, history of the game, artwork, etc. I also made the purchase to secure a place in line when/if the machines are put into production.
I never thought I would make a NIB purchase of a pinball machine. Incomplete code, quality control issues, up front deposits -- it was not worth the investment to have the latest and greatest machine even if I did like the theme. I like how the guys at Circus Maximus are approaching the remake -- retaining much of the original art, theme, and code but at the same time offering some modern tweaks and listening to the public's feedback. I also like that no up front deposits are requested; I am more than willing to buy something I want but I want to make sure my money brings something home ( TBL anyone?).
Looking forward to what is to come later this year, even if it has to carry over into the next. The history and back story of this title are tempting enough. . . combine that with gangsters and tommy guns and I will be all in for my first NIB Pinball.

You are right but some informations would be great .. also some pics about production if there is some ....

Any updates?

Quoted from megalo17:

Any updates?

It’s possible they have Deeproot to manufacture Kingpin and everyone had to sign an NDA. In a perfect pinball world that would be the reason why all is quiet and then at TPF there will be a reveal and selling of the game to the ones that bought the signed translite.
What do you think?

I would think American Pinball . Not sure Stern is still contracting other games...

Any further updates on when manufacturing of this game will start? Will it be released for sale this year? It's all gone incredibly quiet.

Hey I'm late to the party on this conversation. Will the circus maximus pinball remake ever be completed.

#124 3 years ago

I just reread this article. First plan was 2018 for the first production pin.

https://www.thisweekinpinball.com/exclusive-first-tpf-reveal-kingpin-the-remake-interview-with-circus-maximus-kingpin-rules-upgrades-plus-a-giveaway-of-signed-translite-from-mark-ritchie/

Is there any way to get an update or is it really over ?
We don’t know what’s taking so long or if this game can be rebuild

One translite is for sale here in France if anyone is interested. Too bad there is no news. I hope they could find a manufacturer and resolve the playfield issues and still on the road...

Yeah , not hearing a thing.
Has any of you 249 other translite waiting list people know anything ?
3 plus years ?

#135 2 years ago

Nothing. Hopefully the team provide an update sometime soon. Even if it's minor, I'm guessing those interested just want to know will it be released or have they run into trouble and it's not going to happen.

I still believe in this project!Cant wait

#137 2 years ago

I think also that there is something going on in the background.
For my own project I contacted CMG several times and yes, communication is a pia. They really have to work on it, also if the machines are available. Than people need informations, maybe support, etc ... there is a big lack. However ... *IF* I got contact it was always nice and helpfull but only around 20% of my mails were answered.

Why do I think there is something going on ?!
Part of the CMG is James Loflin the owner of pinballinc.com
In this partshop under "new parts" are all needet cables for pinballmachines for sale. I am sure that they ordered larger ammounts of different cables and contemporaneous sell them in the shop.

So meanwhile I work on my own KP

Just played the original Circus Maximus in Las Vegas. It was a hoot and the family really liked it. Any updates on remaking this machine? I’d still like to have one. It would be super cool if it were remade the way python wanted this game made. Hope to hear something.
