When another will be for sale?
Don’t know if it has been in the forum, did the original game get a completed code or can we expect some updates with this remake?
Thanks

We have about 75 translites left that will be offered up for sale after we ship to everyone that has already ordered. I'll post here when they go live.

The original code is about 95% complete. There were a couple bugs in the two available original versions (one version is missing music during a multi ball, and the other you cannot tilt on). We currently plan on letting owners play the original roms, or play an updated version with update graphics, etc.

Had a Blast Playing KingPin at LSOG Party this weekend.

While aspects show its "dating", the shots, layout, theme, risk/reward where all there and a blast with 4 players!
Challenging backhand shots!

Grateful for that opportunity!

Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

!

That was a bit my fear. It is that why I was asking about code updates.
I don’t know also if the cabinet and playfield artworks could be relooked

#57 5 years ago

Its hard to put a finger on it.....Sure Graphics can be updated, but as a 30's "gangsta pin", it can go in many directions with its Art.
Code, well we didnt get too deep, 15 games, to comment, its more like the difference between TOM and Iron Maiden.
I would say the energy, sound, lights, call outs, are from its time, and New Sterns shake the core of soul, when playing....
Better yet, Its Houdini vs Iron Maiden. Accept, I enjoyed this more than Houdini.

A good New (old) choice to a collection, that had it been released would have been a winner!

#58 5 years ago

I appreciate your opinion.
Yes, it is impossible to play this one and so ordering this one is a path of faith.
All I can do is comparing.
If I compare with BBB that I know well, I way prefer theme and artwork. I love the BBB, the best ever made imho...but single one unless KP gets 2. I think I would give the edge to KP regarding layout.
Anyway, I always go with the best rules/gameplay and my problem is I can’t give an opinion as I could never played KP.

#59 5 years ago

I think it will find a lot of fans for the game play, and uniqueness.....It passes all those points with ease....
Just more choices these days.

I just dropped off translights 104-153 today at the post office. So they should be on their way to everyone.

That leaves a couple dozen left to ship from the final batch which is already in Chicago getting signed. When I get an ETA on it’s return to us I’ll let everyone know.

Hey Paul,

I'm having a pinball party this weekend. We live about 30 minutes from each other.

If you decide to come, you could just bring mine if you haven't mailed it already.

Shoot me a PM and let me know. Thanks!!!

I've been meaning to ask Paul if he'd be willing to give monthly updates -- even if there are slow times it is nice to know the fire is still lit. If interested he is welcome to update here or he could start his own thread if preferred, either way I will be following!

I've been meaning to start a monthly newsletter/update. I'll shoot to send one out around the beginning of the month starting in June.

Here is the cliff notes version. We've been working mostly on the BOM and some bug fixes for the emulation before we show the game off again at SFGE June 8-10 in Atlanta here. Along the way we've also been building a bigger CNC machine that will allow us to cut new prototype cabinets and playfields as we continue to refine or create any engineering diagrams that will be required for production.

We took the game to Curly's Little Shop of Games Charity Open House a few weeks ago to support a great charity and also further some relationships with some key pinball contacts.

The rest of the translites have been dropped off at FedEx to be return to us, so we should be able to ship the remaining orders out this weekend or early next week and then turn on sales for translites with immediate shipping available.

As I mentioned we will have the game at SFGE June 8-10 in our booth. We have also donated translite #1 to Project Pinball to be auctioned off at SFGE for their charity.

Placed my translite order, #176.

#76 5 years ago

All orders that have been placed have now shipped, so we have opened up the ordering again for the remaining translites. We have all of them here and signed, so no more delays. If you order, it should ship within 48 hours at most.

I posted a cliff notes version a few posts back. We will start sending out at least a monthly update to those on the Translite list and on our main mailing list around the first of each month too.

Recent E-mail update from Circus Maximus:

June 2018 Updates

This is the first of what we intend to be monthly updates from the Circus Maximus team. These will cover what we've been up to, progress that has been made, and where the team or the game(s) will show up next.

This first one is a little long since it covers March through May, so hang in there. It will be worth it.

Look for the next update around July 1st.

Kingpin Translite #1
We've decided to donate the first translite (and the option to purchase the first production Kingpin) to Project Pinball to help raise money for their great charity. This auction is taking place now and you can bid in person at SFGE next weekend or online via the link below.

https://projectpinball.rallyup.com/projectpinballauction

Bid large and bid often for this great charity and you can be the first to own a production Kingpin if you so choose.

Signed translites are available again
The reaction to our signed translites that include a reservation for any production games was so crazy we had to pause the sales to catch up on manufacturing and shipping. But they are now available again and in stock.

These are available on a first come, first served basis for the remaining translites in the limited run of 250.

To purchase one or learn more visit here.

SFGE
The Circus Maximus Team will be at the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo June 8-10. We will have a booth so stop by and play Kingpin along with checking out our SWAG that we have for sale.

Our team also has a seminar on Saturday June 9th from 10:30-11:30 where we will discuss the Kingpin project so stop by and hang out with us. We don't bite... Usually.

Texas Pinball Festival
Thanks to the awesome organizers and attendees at TPF, we had an incredible response to the unveiling of the Kingpin project.

Our seminar was packed (we did bribe everyone with pizza) and lines to play the game were always 8-10 deep the entire weekend.

Watching people's response to playing Kingpin and the feedback they gave us were incredibly helpful.

We will definitely be back in 2019.

Project Updates
While publicly things have been mostly quiet, behind the scenes we are still plugging along with the Kingpin project. We've mostly been working on creating the final Bill-of-Materials (BOM) along with creating engineering diagrams for many of the custom parts required for the game. The emulation side has also continued to get tweaks along the way.

The Kingpin prototype has also appeared in public several times since TPF including at the Little Shop of Games Charity Open House in Florida.

I was able to play it last night as well. I really enjoyed the shot layout and flow of the game. I was completely unfamiliar with this pin, so I’m glad I was fortunate enough to notice it and play.

I wanted to thank Paul for taking the time to answer my questions and for the translite -- #227!

Finally caught up on some sleep after expo. I have a newsletter pending that will go out tomorrow. Nothing earth shattering was announced at Expo. We didn't even have a panel. It was mostly meetings with partners and potential partners while at Expo.

Here is a preview of the newsletter:

- Lots of work behind the scenes continues on non-sexy stuff like engineering diagrams for parts that need to be fabricated for production.
- We are working with Matt at Back Alley Creations to spruce up some of the playfield. Matt has some awesome ideas that we can't wait to share and show off. One we've mentioned while talking to people individually is a better Hotel Lex building.
- An interesting tidbit on something we learned while adding flashers to our dev game
- We believe we may have found a manufacturing partner and there are ongoing discussions working towards a firm agreement. This also would be a partner for Python's Pinball Circus after Kingpin.
- We've begun working with some really cool animation people (with very cool resumes) on the custom code side and we were hoping to show some of that off at Expo but we are not to a point where we are comfortable doing that yet.
- We will be at Free Play Florida with our dev game and have a panel at 5pm on Saturday. Jimmy, James, and I will be joined by game artist Stan Fukuoka on the panel and Stan will also have a booth selling some of his art prints.
- There are only 20ish signed translites left which hold you a spot for the game
- New Pinbo Stone Blue shirt and Bad Cats & Insert Coin shirts back in stock.

I may have missed something, or may add some more to the newsletter tonight before it sends in the morning.

Maybe a nice idea to contact the guy who made several dots animations for Capcom and ask what he thinks about your project ...

We've actually been in contact with him when we announced the project originally. He was super excited about the project. We had some discussions about him doing the new animations too.

Hey Paul, I didn't get a chance to make it to expo this year, but here's what I would have asked about had I the chance:

- I'm interested in Capcom Kingpin. I'm not sure I'll be as interested in "different" Kingpin. Will there will be a mode that leaves it true to the original? I haven't had a chance to play the proto, so maybe someone in this thread that has had a chance to play the prototype that has also played the original and could give some feedback/comparison.

- Feature creep. Concerned whenever I hear "we're looking into doing this <insert new thing original Kingpin didn't have>", that these things will push out the delivery of the game even further. Will we soon be at a point where you can put a stake in the ground and say "this is what the final product will be"?

Lastly, is there any constructive criticism that you received at Expo that you'd like to share, and how/if you plan on addressing it?

Thanks!

The playfield layout will stay exactly the same as the original. You will be able to play the original ROMs on the game too, in addition to an updated graphics/code version. Owners will pick when they turn the game on if they want to play the Classic version or the updated version.

Feedback on gameplay has been very positive, including from those that own or have played originals.

This is a reasonable question. Most of these items we are update/adding have little to do with the main development of the game. Meaning they do not affect the timeline. In fact, some may accelerate the time line. Adding updated code and graphics does take some time, but again, most of that can be done in tandem with pre-production of the game, so it's mostly overlap in project time, not extending it.

Quoted from mjenison:

Most of the comments we've had as far as constructive criticism has been directed towards the art. Both the original art and the new art. With the original artwork there have been comments about the cabinet art and all of the grey on it. And there are those that have seen the updated art by Dave Christensen that hate that art.

Dave's art needs some cleanup and recoloring. As well as making the ladies on the art a little younger as Dave is in his 70s and drew them like the ladies his age.

The cabinet art we are looking at changing the grey by adding something like a Chicago Skyline. We are not sure if both sets of art will be available on all models, or if we will just do Daves art on a special edition or something.

Overall, all of what we look at as enhancements have to make sense. Meaning we are not just going to change something for the sake of changing something.

The gist of how we look at this game is that we don't consider it a "remake" since it was never released. So we are shooting for a good balance of respecting the original and also what would they have done differently if they built it today. These are mostly cosmetic changes as the playfield geometry and layout will be identical to the original. And you'll be able to play the original code as I mentioned before.

It helps that both the original artist Stan and the game designer Mark Ritchie are advisors on this project. As well as several original Kingpin owners.

We are very open to constructive criticism and welcome it.

Paul

We will definitely add that feature to the custom code side.

I vote for the cabinet art to stay exactly like the original. Alot of gray is fine.
