    I hear Chinchillas are very inteliegent animals and it's cruel to keep one as a pet. They escape and kill themselves as they run straight for the cat.

    Ok, dumb me, didn't realize you meant hides. Guessing based on your post they have to killem. Still don't think it's cruel, but not something I would want to do.
