I hear Chinchillas are very inteliegent animals and it's cruel to keep one as a pet. They escape and kill themselves as they run straight for the cat.

Quoted from ralphs007:I’m glad this thread isn’t what I thought it was about. I remember many years ago,I was working at a dentist house, and I saw that they had a bunch of Chinchillas, in their basement. It turns out that his two children raised them for their fur! They seemed to be so proud of themselves for what they were doing.I never forgot how heartless his two children had to be,to do something so cruel !
What if they were raising them for food? Do you wear wool? Is farming/ranching cruel?
Quoted from ralphs007:They were raising them for their fur not food, and unlike sheep, they are killed for their fur.
Ok, dumb me, didn't realize you meant hides. Guessing based on your post they have to killem. Still don't think it's cruel, but not something I would want to do.
Edited to add, I'm moving on.
