Quoted from drsfmd:

There are differences from one chime box to the next. I don't think the EM/SS aspect has anything to do with it.

Pretty much this - the same with bells, too, they can be "tuned" differently. I find a lot bigger differences between same-sized bells than chimes, though. I think the computer controlled aspect of the chimes gives it a different tone too slightly. Maybe it's just the rhythm/pattern being controlled by the MPU board rather than the score motor.

There is a significant difference actually - the gottlieb SS chime games kind of "mush" up the chimes. I think they are too fast, so not all chime hits come in loud and clear, some are lost or muffled. I had forgotten about this till you mentioned it but it's a known issue on gottlieb SS games.

I remember hearing that because it pulses so fast that it kind of "levitates" the plunger instead of hitting, so only the first note is heard because it is the only one that starts dropped down all of the way.

Thanks for all the info...Glad I wasn't "hearing" things;LOL..
Now it begs the question. How do you make the chimes sound as they should?

You buy the EM Unless there's a specific fix that can make the chimes operate smoother it's probably just a thing of the breed of those early SS games that still use chimes that comes with owning one.

Buy the EM version. Edit- Beat me by a few seconds. These young bucks are fast!

Not as fast as the MPU pulsing those chime coils
