I noticed there's a thread about 7 months old about tech repair in the area and the recommended names were Galvin (http://gavinsgameservice.com/cms/) and Rick (http://www.ricksgamerepair.com/) Do people here still vouch for them?

Has anyone here had any experience with these guys below (good / bad / fake)?

A lot of demand for his his time. Sorry he never responded. His knowledge and skills are top notch.

Recently had some work done by derekcharacter and would recommend him.

Gavin is good, but can be difficult to get on his schedule. He's not the quickest to respond to email inquiries (understatement) but if you get him out he knows his shit.

Rick from Rick's Game Repair is easier to work with, and knowledgeable as well. I know Rick well and he's a great guy that also knows a ton about video game repair. Last I knew (5+ years ago) early 80s stuff was not his forte. I'd probably focus on 90s and newer.

I've also used Phil from Arcade at Home in Romeoville. He is friendly and good as well. Was much easier to get out here, but I also live close to Romeoville, so YMMV. He seemed somewhat more expensive at the time, but that can be hard to gauge when people come out for different issues.

Anyway, these are the 3 I have used. I've been happy with them all, and I would probably rate their expertise in the order I have them listed (although Phil would bump ahead of Rick for 80s stuff).

#10062 2 years ago

You're fine with either of them. Rick has done repairs for me twice and sent me a part. Good guy. Renting a game from Gavin right now. He's good so far and a guy at the local bar where he has some games on location always speaks well of him.

Yes I figured he’s probably so busy, I ended up doing the tech myself! I will definitely reach out again to him if needed

#10064 2 years ago

All great responses and suggestions. Thanks to all who responded, really appreciate it. Being new to the hobby, it is great to know there are people around that can help, making this hobby more enjoyable. Cheers!

Another +1 for Gavin.

Had him out a few years ago for a flipper rebuild on my FT and he did some board work on my Gorgar.
Worked quickly and efficiently. He knew exactly what needed to be done and knocked it out quickly.

I have not used Rick, bet see some of his posts on Facecrook, looks like he does good work.

#10077 2 years ago

Gavin is excellent and in high demand. Very good dude known for years and asset to hobby.

Rick is also excellent and been in hobby for years. I haven’t worked with Rick in years but he’s a straight shooter.

I can vouch for both. Can’t go wrong with either.

That game is brutal but I absolutely love it. I had the same reaction about 3 years ago and dumped mine.
I just had It.
3 years go by and now I really appreciate the code on this game.
I say put in storage.

Ummmm…. not sure how to respond because that game is a legit kick in the ding ding. But just in case you’re serious I’d love to pay 5k to get kicked in the ding ding.
