Just picked up a beater Chicago coin "Top ten" this afternoon. Playfield, cab, & backglass are below average. Did not bother looking inside the game when I bought it. Will get some photos tomorrow & check out the mechanicals. Did not really need another project but it was really cheap. Will probably be a couple of years before I get to restoration.... have at least 4 pins ahead of it.
I dig the sweet '70's artwork......

#58 10 years ago

This is the first CC I have seen for sale locally & you are correct, they don't get much love. This thing sat on Craigslist for weeks & was dirt cheap - & in our area you just do not see many pins for sale at all, at least not reasonably priced pins.
Nothing wrong with a beater, missing paint & flaking backglasses don't effect gameplay. This one is going to be a player when I'm done. If nothing else I get more practice on my touchup & painting skills.... always learning.

Quoted from izzy:

Just finishing up a Top Ten that I've had for years. PF was a disaster, picked up 2 over the years and did a swap with the better one. Should be running next week. Still need to redo the BG. Photos to come. Will have an extra "decent"" PF and some plastics if anyone is interested.
Izzy

Cool. I have not inspected my Top ten yet - I might just need a few items, will advise!

BG resto did a Top ten backglass, if you want to drop more $$ into it they can probably sell you one...

Will do. The only show I make it to is the NW Pin/arcade show in Seattle -- Tacoma.

Moved the pin to my storage facility early this morning, took a few photos:

Inside looks really clean & unmolested. Outside, well - it's a beater! The missing insert is there floating around on the playfield. Coin door is straight! Cool, usually they are all bent up.

Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

This should give you guys some extra motivation for fixing up your Top Ten machines. Here is a thread on my machine.
http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/1975-chicago-coin-top-ten-restoration

Of course I looked at that already! Looks great.
I don't have a manual or schematic yet, but looking inside the backbox it appears that you can set it up to award extra balls instead of credits. Can anyone post a scan of the manual where it shows how to set up / adjust this feature? Is it like an add-a-ball where you can win multiple extra balls?

Quoted from HELLODEADCITY:

looks like a cool project dasvis

Thanks- Yeah, they are all great projects... Have a Gottlieb High hand EM wedgehead project started, and Gottlieb Top card EM wedgehead & a Williams Alien poker solid state on deck before this can be rebuilt.
You gotta buy them when you find'um. Affordable project machines are getting harder & harder to find. Not too much longer it will be almost impossible to pick up ANY unrestored machine.

Quoted from SchertzPinball:

Does anyone have a Bronco backglass for sale? Mine could use a replacement.

IMG_20140111_151956_211.jpg 175 KB

That has a rather large window for the credit wheel.

#89 10 years ago

Next time I get down to my storage I can pull the cards out of mine & scan for you. Might not be in great condition but you can photoshop them.

#93 10 years ago
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

Hey izzy, Why not just get a real Backglass from bgresto.com for $200.00?
Ken

Clay approves these, the quality is good.

#95 10 years ago

Very nice -- An EM shooter is on my short list, along with a bingo, a woodrail, & maybe a DMD (if I can find one cheap).

Pretty crappy, but again photoshop. The little cost per play cards are adhesive stickers.

Hey Izzy, that's the first time I have opened up the playfield on the Top ten & looked inside. Is that an early optical switch on the spinning record wheel thing? &- does it have something to do with the two odd plastic cased relays on the bottom of the playfield?

#104 10 years ago
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

It is the photo eye sensor and there are 2 SS relays that operate it located on the front end of the underside of the Playfield on one side.
The transition from EM to SS has begun! Boooooooo!!
Ken

Cool. Looks pretty straightforward under the hood other than that.

If anyone has a hankering for a new CC

Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

Just saw your collection of EM's jcg9998 and must say it is a very nice and varied collection you have. Some I have not even heard of much less seen in person.
Ken

Holy cow that's a lot of games! Where the hell do you put them all?

Quoted from meSz:

Do you still have the pieces? If so, you could go through the daunting task of putting it back together and sending it to him!
If you look at his home page on his site, that Chicago Coin Super Hockey is one he did for me! I didn't have a glass but found another party that wanted to get one made so he shipped his glass to Steve! Upon Steve receiving it, it was smashed! Steve put it together to make the reproduction! If you look at the picture you can see all the breaks! If' your's is truely in "a million pieces" than your only options is to continue to look for one to come up for sale or find another owner that would be willing to scan their glass or that is wanting to get a repro done and is willing to send the glass in (as stated, this is what I did).

Dang - The CC club activity is hot.
Guess I'm going to have to drag my project Top Ten out of storage & get to work on it.

What does the gun smoke button do?

Quoted from wedgeheadjunkie:

I recently purchased a 1968 Chicago Coin 4-player game "Stage Coach", and discovered that the score motor has a broken set screw and shaft that sits in the middle of the three heavy plastic cams on the score motor.
These plastic shaft/set screw assemblies and cams were made of heavy plastic, and I can either replace it with another plastic version of the set screw/shaft, or else try and re-tool a metal version.
Does anyone happen to have a spare score motor from this vintage that they would sell?
Please PM me, if so.
Thanks a bunch,
Larry Zartarian
Oakland, CA

See this, exact fix for this... scroll down the page a little, it's there.

Quoted from pinwiztom:

CCoin "chimes" of the 70s era were for the most part,
just simple doorbell chimes from what i remember.

Yup, even has "NUTONE" marked on it. Makers of doorbells. Pretty irritating.

#601 4 years ago
Quoted from gdonovan:

Later ones were doorbell, you have the correct wood box unit.

Dang, you learn something new every day!

#609 4 years ago
Quoted from pinwiztom:

Olympics/Super Star must have been the last CCoin (Jan 1975) to use wood block chimes
as TopTen/Gold Record had the door bell, at least the Gold Records I had owned came with the chincy doorbells.

My Top ten has the doorbell

Quoted from Thekeyexchange:

Recently got a Riviera CC from my aunt and uncle...and wouldn't you know the upper-right flipper just stopped working in time for quarantine. I now know what my project is going to be over the next few weeks![quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
