I've had a few Chicago Coin pins and arcades over the years. Not a pinball but I hope to add one of these to my collection one day.

Quoted from hoov:

I called a guy about one of these last year. Don't know if he sold it or not.

Hmm, interesting. Do you remember what they were asking?

#28 10 years ago

Yeah, the wood is apparently leftover from Howard Hughes Spruce Goose project. I know of a couple around $5-$6k. I'd be interested at $3k. Still a ton of money really but it oozes mechanical charm.

#37 10 years ago

Casino is supposed to be a great game. Congratulations.

#45 10 years ago
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

Thanks Alex!
I like calling it the poor mans "Fireball". No Multiball which is too bad but it has 2 spinning discs instead on one. Also who needs Zipper Flippers when you have a shot at closing all the Drain Lanes to save your ball.
Ken

Well Herb Silvers owns one and lists it as his favorite game on his website. Considering how many classics have passed through his shop over the years I'd say that's a pretty good commentary.

Hurray! The search is over I got one! 1947 Chicago Coin Basketball Champ. I picked one up an hour away at a great price last week. That's the good news. The bad news is it needs a lot of love. Most specifically it is missing the head and curved glass. If I could at least find an original light board I think I could make one. It also must have had a rotten bottom at some point because the cab had been cut down and the guys 85 year old father had built a stand for it. Not ideal but I'm in the door at least. Finding an affordable example seemed unlikely so I guess the condition actually may have helped really. The other good news is it plays and my grandson loves it. When I get it cleaned up a bit I'll have to post a pic.

Quoted from meSz:

Congrats!!! Neat looking game! Would love if they would've made a hockey version like this!!!

Thanks! They did make a Hockey version. You have it already. Well not identical but same beautiful cabinet style, great graphics and mannequin players.

#130 9 years ago

I have one of these that is partially restored, maybe this Summer I'll wrap it up...

To stay on topic, I would love one of these.

#135 9 years ago

Yeah, it has to be fairly rare. I've only found pics of one other online. Here is a pic of when I got it.

It's missing the glass but I redrew the art. Another great Pinside member. Saint Pafasa I call him, was kind enough to make me a decal for the glass.

Sorry for getting off topic.

I would also love to get one of these!!! I have the Chicago Coin Goalee one and its about 70% restored. I would love to find a Chicago Coin Criss Cross or a Super Hockey game to restore!!!

Criss Cross Hockey is pretty cool. For a neat later game I like the look of Chicago Coin's 1961 Pro hockey.

#139 9 years ago

That's a neat one too, but I think he meant one of these. Criss Cross Hockey

I picked up a 1961 Chicago Coin Pro Basketball a few weeks back. I'm hoping to get it set up and playing this week.

#173 9 years ago

Nah, that was my 1947 Basketball Champ. I was very excited to find it when I did as you rarely see one South of $3500. Unfortunately though it's bordering on a parts machine with modified cabinet and missing head. I found a complete and working 1961 Pro Basketball so I am letting the Basketball Champ go. It looks like it's headed to Michigan.

Heh, we are just standing by while you figure it out.

I would be very surprised if the glass is installed from the side. It seems unlikely but then I can't be sure. I wonder if the rail is removable because a previous owner also struggled with removing the glass and removed the rail?

I would suspect the control panel is removable. Likely a couple long carriage bolts hold it in place. Open the coin door and look for a couple wing nuts on the underside. This is how my 4 Bagger P&B is set up. Of course it is a different manufacturer but the control panel design is similar. Purely speculation but just throwing an idea out there for you...

#191 9 years ago
Quoted from egyptrus:

Hey Alex,
Thanks for letting me make a fool of myself. At any rate, I have a pitch and bat that's very similar in that you have to remove the control panel to get the glass out. The difference is that the panel itself isn't grooved for the glass to fit, as seems to be the case on this Criss Cross.
I suspect you're right regarding why the left rail is screwed in place. It's also likely the reason why the channeled piece of the control panel is separate as well. Previous owner probably couldn't figure out how to get the control panel off or how to get the glass out and ended up taking off the side rail and then removing part of the control panel.
My plan is to get the control panel put back together and then work on getting play field glass for this. This is one of those games that could turn into a money pit pretty quickly if I'm not careful. Lots of things to be fixed and/or upgraded. Guess I'll have to make sure I like it before spending too much money on it.
Dave

Now I'm glad you snagged it before I could. You're not a fool, you just haven't figured it out yet.

Actually my P&B control panel is channeled for the glass but I'm still not 100% sure that is a safe comparison. With that said it sure seems like the control panel should be removable? I know a guy that had one, I'll ask him and see what he says.

#193 9 years ago

Hi Dave,
Here is my friends response to your questions. It's funny that he mentioned 4 Baggers lockdown as that is along the lines of what I was thinking.

"Yes, mine have been one piece panels, similar to a 4 Bagger where it has a vertical piece in the back that slides onto the glass. I think the bonus light only comes on at the end of the game."

Thanks,
Alex

Here's mine. Chicago Coin Pro Basketball.

Quoted from SRLR0811:

Personally I enjoy it, but since it is such a unique machine I could see a lot of people getting turned off by it.

That seems to sum it up perfectly. It's one of those polarizing games where some love it and some hate it. I'd give it a whirl.

I sold my Pro Basketball this month. So my membership is hanging on by a thread. I still have my Baby Leland. Manufactured for Chicago Coin by Stoner in 1933.

#394 6 years ago
Quoted from Mopar:

You wouldn't be sorry if you were able to enter the Genco Club..

It's always been a dream of mine. Membership is too expensive I think...

#397 6 years ago
Quoted from Chisel:

Cabinet is very nice, although the paint seems to have yellowed considerably. Maybe cigarette smoke? I've tried about everything I could find and nothing seems to touch it much.

Chicago Coin cabs seem to yellow like no other. Not sure if it was the paint they used or maybe cleared them with lacquer. Lacquer will yellow over time.

#405 6 years ago
Quoted from Grayman_EM:

Am I ok if I buy a Stampede but after they were bought by Stern? Since the machine is the same? Just how picky are we here?

I think most here still consider it a Chicago Coin game. I had one. Great backglass.

Quoted from Chalkey:

So my problem is actually that there is a tiny bit of play between the gear and the wipers on my "ball in play" assembly. The gear returns to zero but the wiper motor has just enough slack to throw it off. Does anyone make parts for this any more or is there a common fix?

Was there supposed to be a washer or spacer in there?

Quoted from Mopar:

I have a few C.C. machines set up, 2 of them are pins.
I also have 2 Casinos which I should be able to make a
decent one from, but was debating. If your opinion is
thumbs up for Casino, that does increase the chances
of me putting one together..

Herb Silvers used to claim it was his favorite game. Never played own but it does look interesting.

I don't own a Gunsmoke. But the left definitely. Cowboy gun. The right is more Dirty Harry.

#764 2 years ago

That's better except the gun isn't symmetrical. If you flip the image it isn't correct on the right side. Image for reference.

No sir. I missed it. Was thinking about you as I know you have a Hula Hula and Pleasure Isle. Thought they would be cool paired up next to each other.

#849 1 year ago

Can anyone identify this old bowler? It's got the cool round headed guy that Chicago Coin seemed to use on it's arcades in the late 40s. No pics of the glass. Guess it could be a custom repaint but it looks pretty darn good.

I figured it out. Chicago Coin Trophy Bowl. Found line listed in 1950 Billboard magazine. This one doesn't have a glass. A local guy I know also has one which is a strange coincidence as it seem like kid of an oddball/lesser seen game.

Not my game, but this CC Mustang available in Wisconsin appears to be the AAB version.
milwaukee.craigslist.org link

Ack, I was just telling myself I don't need anymore projects because I don't have time to work on them. It was kind of easy to forget when it started at $400 this morning. There's a couple others that popped up that are tempting me as well. All good bang for the buck semi-interesting projects. Ah well.

#955 1 year ago
Quoted from aahgo:

Yeah, I was tempted myself, but I’m in a no buying situation while I sort out the new game room. Also I just restored one of these a few years ago. Let us know if you pick it up.

It's gone. Sometimes that's more of a relief than it being available. Don't need to worry about it now. I liked the the art and the AAB variant.
