I have a few, Hi-Score Pool, Kicker, Top Ten, a bowler and a few of their gun games. I like Chicago Coin, but I always rooted for the underdog. Some of the early CDI games were very nice.

I'm parting out a Chicago coin Kicker, plastics already gone but I do have a bunch of stuff for the captive balls in the center.

Lots of other old EM stuff here as well: https://www.facebook.com/PreservationPinballParts/?fref=ts

Quoted from Chloro:

I have a problem with a Chicago Coin Sondstage machine. This is my first pin repair and from what I've experienced probably not the best one to start on. Regardless, I like a good challenge.
The game seems to function on all aspects but there seems to be an issue with the 10-90 scoring. The coil frame for the 10-90 relay was broken when received but the score would advance when the relay was activated manually (Coil was not wired).
I replaced the coil with the same numbered coil, after it was wired and powered on the coil remains stuck energized. After researching on this web, I checked the associated score reels and they are clean and nothing seems stuck. I wedged a piece of cardboard between the coil to keep it open and powered the machine on, there was a constant blue spark between the leaves indicated with a red arrow of the attached picture.
I assume you would follow back from those relay contacts or score reel to the playfield and find an issue there.  I was expecting to see all the wire colors coming to the 10-90 relay shown on the wiring diagram but I must not be reading it corrrectly. Has anyone experienced this before or have any advice?

In looking at the schematic, I would check the 2 playfield switches & 2 kicker switches to see if they are closed or the wires connecting them are shorting against each other. If those look good - look at the schematic for the 10-90 relay and see what activates that.

I spent plenty of time troubleshooting the 2nd player 10-90 score reel/player control as recommended. When I had the score reel board disconnected it would never advance to a new game but would not stick open on the 10-90 relay. This was leading me to think it was somewhere along the line of 2nd player score reel/Player control/10-90 relay. I spent a number of hours tracing wires back and forth. I did manage to find a broken wire on the 2nd player 10-90 score reel that was soldered back.

After getting a little frustrated I checked the schematics again and decided to check the 4 playfield point switches at 10-90. It didn't name the 2nd set of switches so I simply traced the black-white wire, is this typical of schematics not identifying the playfield name switches? I eventually found a kicker switch open that is supposed to be normally closed. I corrected this and now there is no longer a problem with the 10-90 relay sticking open energized. Now I can play a game up to 990 points, next step is replacement of the 1000s coil that is clearly burnt.

Thanks for the suggestion, it helped me to study the schematics a bit more and understand them which put me on the right path. Next time I should be more thorough when examining the easy option first.

I just started working on my Dad's old Kicker. The machine is in a bit of a rough shape, and I've never really been an EE type of guy more mechanical.

Does anyone have tips for a newbie?

This is my first post and hopefully, I'm in the right place.

Bring back a CC Cinema machine, got the game to reset and play after a lot of fixing.
The problem now is the ball return kicker, it takes a couple of rotations on the score motor before it fires.
In the meantime, the ball count will advance one or two balls.
Trying to fine tune the related contact switches, but haven't found the sweet spot yet.
Also the game will add players on its own, but I think I have it adjusted okay now, fingers crossed.
Any input, advice or direction where to start will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply.
Did some fine tuning on the score motor contacts, but still have issues.
The machiane as a whole is working good overall.
Just a couple of problems that happen randomly.

1. With one coin/one player the machine will activate the 2nd 3rd and 4th players.
Usually happens on the second or third ball. But only now and then.

2. Ball count skips 1 to 2 balls occationally. This happens mostly when the ball return kicker doesn’t firer.
This also is at random. May go 10 games then start to skips balls for a few games.
Both problems seem to be related to the score motor contacts.

Any input would be appreciated.

Working on a 1966 Kicker - sat in a damp basement unused for 20 years - original owners. They had never cleaned the machine. Somebody had tried to fix issues by adding grease to all the moving parts. The legs were rusted out. Lots of cleaning on this one, but overall the functionality of the machine was good. Playfield is beat up, I'm not sure I have the skill to re-paint it.

A number of the bulb holders were bad, replaced those, and also replaced most of the bulbs for LEDs.

Waiting on parts from PBR to finish assembling the pop bumpers and fix the flippers.

Spent the afternoon rebuilding the pop bumpers and flippers on my Kicker. Plays so much better now. Thanks PBR for having all the parts I needed. I wish the playfield had been in better shape when I got it, but this game is ready to be played!

Working on the lock bar and coin door on a Kicker. Does anyone know where I can purchase the coin door sticker and also the edges of the lock bar? They are removable and from being played, they are worn out.

Thank you

Alberto

I just purchased a CC Kicker. When I set it up I realized that it has no credit window in the back glass. The credit unit is there but with no credit wheel. All the pics I have seen of this game all have the credit window. So I’m trying to figure out if they made true add a ball machines. If so how many? I’m thinking this one is pretty rare. Please let me know if you have any info?

Quoted from Garrett:

Would the lack of the credit window be in order to sell the pin in states with gambling regulations? If there is no credit then it's not gambling, same concept as the add a ball games possibly?

Yes, Kicker was made as an Add-A-Ball. See the factory flyer on IPDB. AAB ball games were the solution in areas that did not allow winning credits (free games) or any location that did not want to give free games. Does your backglass say "Shoot Extra Ball Now" (hidden) that would light up when you have earned an extra ball based on high scores? Does your game have a score/instruction card? It should mention how to get extra balls. There should be adjustment pins in the backbox to set what scores will give extra balls. My CC Playtime is an AAB game. Kicker looks like CC was trying to fool some players into thinking it was a Gottlieb wedgehead. Show us some more photos of the game. Also, unless someone added it, your game should not have a start/credit button, just operates on coins. How many coin slots does it have and what denominations? In 1966 many games would give one play for a dime or two nickels.

Quoted from wawhite92025:

Does your backglass say "Shoot Extra Ball Now" (hidden)

Being a single player, I believe Kicker would be set up like a Wedge Head AAB without the
Shoot Extra Ball Now. I'd like to see other pics of it also. The Italian version AAB has Italian
writhing on the backglass. If this hasn't, pics should be sent in to IPDB
On your Playtime. Is it SHOOT EXTRA BALL NOW, or SHOOT ADDED BALL NOW? An AAB
Playtime's not listed on IPDB. I'd like to see pics of that also.
So your Playtime can accumulate added balls. If the score is set for lets say 700, does
it give a score every time a 700 is made, so 700, 1,700, 2,700, ect.?

#830 1 year ago
Quoted from Adm927:

Here are a couple of pics. With the lights on. I’m going to be looking for the correct add a ball schematic if anyone out there has one. It only has 1 coin slot. It takes dimes only I think.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Your Kicker AAB operates similar to my Playtime. By default you have a 5 ball game, but as you accumulate points you can have a total of 10 balls. The device that looks like a credit unit actually steps up as you reach the added ball points and knocks them off when the ball drains. Unlike a Gottlieb AAB, which can give you unlimited play if you are really good at winning "WOW", the CC method only has a total possible of 10 balls, so unlike a Gottlieb where you could be down to one ball to play and then get all the way back up to 10 balls to play, ad infinitum, the CC has an end point where you can't get any more extra balls after 10. Kicker says "Shoot Added Balls", whereas Playtime says "Shoot Extra Ball Now" because it is a two player and wants the players to pay attention to whose turn it is. Your game operates on dimes. Having it operate on a dime adds to the authenticity of the game.
Have fun restoring the game.

Here is the add-a-ball supplement for Kicker. I also have and AAB Kicker. The schematic was a little too big for my scanner so I added the bottom circuit manually to shrink the size a bit.

If you happen to ever think about trading the Kicker, I have duplicate

I have a Kicker game and between the flippers it lights up and says Extra Ball When Lit. I have a picture of it although it is upside down. I plan on working on this game over the winter. I also have a Chicago Coins Bronco game that has the add a ball feature too. On the backglass it says "Shoot Added Ball Now". Is this backglass only for the add a ball versions?

I also have a Kicker which is add a ball. The schematic seems to indicate there is a 'standard' version. My schematics came with an additional page for add-a-ball. I have never seen or heard of anyone with a Kicker that award free games. That being said, if one looks at the flyer for the game it mentions both add-a-ball and standard are available.

I considered converting mine to a 'standard' game and seemed too much of a bother and would need to add some parts surely.

Yes, I believe C.C. Kicker came in both versions.
Sounds like you don't care for AABs so much. Might
you like to trde the Kicker for a Replay machine?
I'm in Upstate N.Y.

Kicker came in both versions. Replay and add a ball. I have an add a ball version with an actual glass backglass. Most of them were for export and had plexi back glasses.

In response to the interesting posts about Chicago Coin Add-A-Ball games and a request to upload some pictures of the backbox of my Playtime AAB I am uploading photos to this forum. I got the game in Queens, NYC from the original home owner who had it for 50 years. When I got the game it was very dirty and did not work. The predominate "color" inside the game was black and shades of grey. Someone had sprayed the insides of the backbox with something akin to dark molasses or used motor oil. I have cleaned up the game and it is no longer in original condition. It plays like new. My CC Kicker is also an AAB game. The Hula Hula has an Italian acrylic backglass with no credit window and instead of match scores it has palm trees, but the game is a regular credit unit game. The Sun Valley is a credit game. I hope these photos are useful if you are working on a Playtime. The are exterior photos of my Playtime in my collection page.

Can anyone with “kicker” verify the slingshot coil part numbers?

I just picked this up recently and the balls are flying at warp speed.
My slings shot and pop bumpers are j-22-550 and the kick out holes are unlabeled and j26-800.

The flippers feel way weaker than the slingshots they are unlabeled and j-21-375

For comparison my gin has
Flippers j-29-400/21-375
Pop bumpers j24-850
Slingshot j25-1050
And j26-800 for the kick out holes
And this game plays at a speed more normal for other ems I’ve played

Hello, I have a Kicker. I have seen the "add a ball" version mentioned here but mine is a standard player. I came hoping to find a schematic. I wanted to review the Normal line and Low line powerfuses were about. I wanted to be certain that these were a one or the other and not both at the same time fuse options. I'm assuming there'd be some sort of notation there on the schematic either way. Plus you can always use a schematic when things go wrong so would you enjoy having one on hand. Thanks so much, Tom
