Quoted from bingopodcast:

for Twinky they used a separate apron for AAB games with a huge insert above the drain that said same player shoots again.

Yea, okay, but that sounds like a Shoot Again machine. With the true 2 Player Add-a-Balls you can
build up your extra balls (up to 5) on the same ball. On all 4 Gottliebs, through backglass mechanical
or light animation. it displays the amount of extra balls. (Same with the AAB Loop-the-Loop).
On the Bronco AAB, "Shoot Added Ball Now" lights without showing how many added balls are
accumulated.

Quoted from FrankJ:

Both had a Jones Plug that could be moved to make it either award replays or an extra ball

An Extra Ball. So you only were able to Shoot Again one time with the same
ball in play?
On True 2 Player AABs, you can build up to 5 extra balls on with the same
ball in play..
On Pleasure Isle, you're able to build up to 5 extra balls on the same ball
in play.
On Paradise (the Relay version) you only can Shoot Again one time with the
same ball in play. After the ball has drained and you play the Shoot Again
ball, you're able to get another extra ball.
I have 6 different True 2 Player AABs, and none have a Replay feature..
Same with Chicago Coin's Hula Hula. One version is "Same Player Shoots Again",
and the other is a True 2 Player AAB. The AAB has an extra ball count unit in the
backbox so the added balls can be built up. I wouldn't mind having either one,
but I really wouldn't mind the AAB version..

#802 1 year ago

Well I seem to recall that the credit unit had a zero circuit to allow for multiple steps/balls to be built up. Player would not switch until all EBs played.

I checked out Twinky, and IPDB doesn't list an AAB version, so perhaps someone
converted it to accumulate extra balls, but if not, you had an extremely rare Twinky.
In that same list with Twinky, it showed Gunsmoke had an AAB version, so I had to
do a quick check with the one in the barn, but nope. It has a Replay Window..

Quoted from Mopar:

I have a Playtime head that I had stored for years. It came from an Old Time Vendor
here in N.Y., so perhaps it's the add-a-ball version..
On Bronco, if you set a score for an added ball lets say on 700, it'll give you an added
ball every time your score reaches a 700. So 1,700, 2,700, ect., so I set it on 1,000
so that it gives an added ball for every 1,000 points..
On Bronco, there's not any indicator that displays how many added balls you have
accumulated. Just the "Shoot Added Ball Now" light stays lit until the added balls have
expired. Is that the same with Playtime, or are there additional lights showing the amount
of added balls?
What Bronco version did you have, the Replay?

The Bronco I had was a replay model. IPDB glossary has an explanation of Add-A-Ball, which is helpful because the term is applied to variations on the theme. Gottlieb wedgehead AAB games include the "Balls to Play" lights with numbers on the backglass, so it is obvious how many balls you have left to play. In many games the term AAB is more like the "Extra Ball" feature we all know and love on EMs and SS.

My Playtime has no indication of how many extra balls you have accumulated. The AAB circuit schematic was taped to the inside of the metal back door on Playtime, since the full schematic does not completely show how the AAB version differs. Playtime does not have a Game Over number match, but during play you can can get up to 500 point bonus on draining or 500 points on drain if you have 3 matching numbers in the "Top Hat" score reels. I like the game because of the unlicensed depiction of the antics at a Playboy club on the backglass and playfield plastics, and the left and right, back and forth, kickout saucers. The Playtime factory flyer does not mention that it was available as an AAB version, but CC Mustang & Bronco flyers do say they were available as an AAB.

#805 1 year ago

Playtime on location was easy to cheat to win. The Top Hat value scored a replay for “111” on drain. Tilt on 111, score replay. Tilt again on the next ball, replay. Start a new game, the reels were still on 111, tilt again, and until you hit max replays on the replay wheel. Play games down to 2-3 replays, tilt on 111 and start again.

Quoted from wawhite92025:

Yes, Gottlieb Wedge Heads have, and also the Gottlieb True 2 Player AABs (Big Top, Pleasure Isle, Hyde Park, Lariat)
indicates the Added balls to play either through backbox mechanical or light animation. The True 2 Player Bally Loop-
the-Loop also has using the match feature lights (1 - 5). C.C. AAB version Bronco doesn't display the amount of added
balls accumulated on the ball being played. The "ShOOT ADDED BALL NOW" remains lit until the last added ball is being
played.

Quoted from wawhite92025:

The Playtime factory flyer does not mention that it was available as an AAB version, but CC Mustang & Bronco flyers do say they were available as an AAB.

Yes, IBDB doesn't list an AAB version for Playtime, but besides Mustang and Bronco, it list Firecraker and Hula Hula having
an AAB version. From those 4, I'd like to have the Hula Hula AAB, however, the Hula Hula Replay version does have a
"Same Player Shoots Again" feature, so I probably wouldn't mind the Replay version either..

Is this button available anywhere? I quickly drew it up in Fusion 360 and got a quote online from a CNC shop in China, would cost about $50 out of aluminum and red anodized for 1. From a 1967 Bullseye Baseball coin door.

Those were made by Pinball Rescue in Australia, sadly no longer in business. I bought 5 and have installed all of them, 3 gun games and 2 pinball. They are reflective but not "quilted" (3D) like the original, but still a great replacement. It is sad they are not available cause a lot of CDI games could use a new coin door decal. I've tried to reach Gordon and Lee, but no luck. If you look on my games page you can see the reproductions on my Hula Hula and Playtime.

I bet someone in USA could reproduce them. I've not heard there are any licensing issues with Chicago Coin (CDI) reproductions. Call G.Stern and ask if he cares if someone reproduces CDI coin door decals. My Hula Hula also has a apron decal from Pinball Rescue, the original had been destroyed with amusement company stickers, beer and rust.

Good luck.

#813 1 year ago

If anyone has an old beat-up decal let me know. I'll at least produce the artwork for it, and look into how to get it reproduced with the embossing/die effect.

Looks great Alex thanks! Looks like ships to US only, time to bug someone to buy it for me...

I am beginning work on this 1946 Chicago Coin Goalee. It is complete but will require lots of work to undo all of the previous repair attempts.

I am in need of a P-273 step-up/reset coil as the one on the left scoring stepper is burned up. See ad here: https://pinside.com/pinball/market/classifieds/ad/135595

I may be posting other ads as I get into this project. Any help would be appreciated!

I just got involved in something that may be a bit too much for me to handle. I recently bought a pair of Chicago Coin Machines. Hi Flyer and Red Baron. Needless to say, one was broke and the other was partially parted out. I didn’t pay much for them.
Hi Flyer is now 100% not broke, and it only took about 20 hours over the course of three weeks. Perfect playfield, good cabinet, flaky backglass.

Red Baron was partially parted out. Someone at some time in the past wanted some of the relays in the bottom and backbox. They cut the wires off at the loom to remove them. A total nightmare.
My intention from the beginning to take this parted out Red Baron machine and “part it back in.” It almost had a date with the city dump before I came along and deserves to live.
The last major problem is the bonus collect relay. It’s the last one on the board in the far back left side of the cabinet.
I’m hoping someone can share a picture or five of this relay, the switch stack positions when the game is off, and which wires go to which blade.
The schematics and parts catalog contradict each other (and both contain a more than a few errors)
With the parts catalog showing five blades, all normally open and the schematic showing one, (yellow black & Black yellow) normally closed.
Beyond that, it comes down to where the wires go on the switch. The wires are pretty faded in that one area.
I could try guessing or tracing all the wires
and possibly smoke another bonus relay coil, but I prefer not to.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Just had one in my shop - it got picked up yesterday. I should be able to get some pictures for you if someone else doesn't have them handy. Might take a day or two. Actually, your wire colors look pretty good. The wires on the one I worked on were faded worse. I had to cut the harness loose to identify some of the wires - really nice bright colors inside the bundles.

Thank you! The picture above is enhanced by my iPhone it’s about the only way to tell if the wires are yellow or white with black or gray or green or blue… in reality they’re quite hard to tell! I hope you or someone has pics. Getting this relay in is the first step to being able to run it and find out what else is wrong!
I’ve replaced 3 missing score reels and two easy relays that had been stolen from it. This bonus collect relay is a bear with all its wires.
Since none are available for sale, I had to build a switch stack according to the parts catalog description. As I said, the book says they’re all normally open but I question that.
Thanks to multiple purchases on fleabay, this Red Baron is now partially made with parts from a Bronco, Cinema, Gin, and Soundstage.

It turned out that nobody had pictures of the relay board on Red Baron and so I decided to figure it out myself like I always do.
Yes, I was hoping for a hint at least, but you should never depend on others to help you, even if they offer to help.
I’m not complaining, you have to learn to do it yourself, pay a shop to fix your machine for you, or get the hell out of the hobby.
Remember, very little is free and some people want you to fail, or simply give bad advice because they don’t know the answer themselves, but need to feel important.
I had written a pretty long post giving advice to other Chicago Coin EM newbs on troubleshooting, but when I got done I thought “Who is ever going to need this?”

In the end, maybe it doesn’t matter. Nobody is going to get rich off some crappy old Chicago Coin pinball machine, so who, (besides a handful of us) is ever going to bother fixing one? The grail machines are all that’s important to 98% of pinball collectors, and that’s just fine by me.
Some would even say that I saved garbage from the dump and would laugh at me because I paid money! IPDB reviewers are brutal!
Anyway, I don’t have to thank anyone here except myself but I felt it was important to update that the Red Baron is 100% working and that I no longer need help.
One piece of advice to everyone:
Don’t make promises you never intend to keep.

#821 1 year ago

Well. At least you're not complaining.

I just purchased a CC Kicker. When I set it up I realized that it has no credit window in the back glass. The credit unit is there but with no credit wheel. All the pics I have seen of this game all have the credit window. So I’m trying to figure out if they made true add a ball machines. If so how many? I’m thinking this one is pretty rare. Please let me know if you have any info?

Would the lack of the credit window be in order to sell the pin in states with gambling regulations? If there is no credit then it's not gambling, same concept as the add a ball games possibly?

Yes, Kicker was made as an Add-A-Ball. See the factory flyer on IPDB. AAB ball games were the solution in areas that did not allow winning credits (free games) or any location that did not want to give free games. Does your backglass say "Shoot Extra Ball Now" (hidden) that would light up when you have earned an extra ball based on high scores? Does your game have a score/instruction card? It should mention how to get extra balls. There should be adjustment pins in the backbox to set what scores will give extra balls. My CC Playtime is an AAB game. Kicker looks like CC was trying to fool some players into thinking it was a Gottlieb wedgehead. Show us some more photos of the game. Also, unless someone added it, your game should not have a start/credit button, just operates on coins. How many coin slots does it have and what denominations? In 1966 many games would give one play for a dime or two nickels.

Quoted from wawhite92025:

Does your backglass say "Shoot Extra Ball Now" (hidden)

Being a single player, I believe Kicker would be set up like a Wedge Head AAB without the
Shoot Extra Ball Now. I'd like to see other pics of it also. The Italian version AAB has Italian
writhing on the backglass. If this hasn't, pics should be sent in to IPDB
On your Playtime. Is it SHOOT EXTRA BALL NOW, or SHOOT ADDED BALL NOW? An AAB
Playtime's not listed on IPDB. I'd like to see pics of that also.
So your Playtime can accumulate added balls. If the score is set for lets say 700, does
it give a score every time a 700 is made, so 700, 1,700, 2,700, ect.?

Here are a couple of pics. With the lights on. I’m going to be looking for the correct add a ball schematic if anyone out there has one. It only has 1 coin slot. It takes dimes only I think.

[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Your Kicker AAB operates similar to my Playtime. By default you have a 5 ball game, but as you accumulate points you can have a total of 10 balls. The device that looks like a credit unit actually steps up as you reach the added ball points and knocks them off when the ball drains. Unlike a Gottlieb AAB, which can give you unlimited play if you are really good at winning "WOW", the CC method only has a total possible of 10 balls, so unlike a Gottlieb where you could be down to one ball to play and then get all the way back up to 10 balls to play, ad infinitum, the CC has an end point where you can't get any more extra balls after 10. Kicker says "Shoot Added Balls", whereas Playtime says "Shoot Extra Ball Now" because it is a two player and wants the players to pay attention to whose turn it is. Your game operates on dimes. Having it operate on a dime adds to the authenticity of the game.
Have fun restoring the game.

Pictures of my Playtime are in my collection page on Pinside. The backglass says "Shoot Extra Ball Now". The extra balls are added at 3200, 4800, 6500, 7600, 8900. Those scores are set by the adjustment pins in the backbox. If you don't drain the ball in between extra ball scores, then it continues to accumulate the extra balls, so in theory if you reach 8900 on one ball you would wind up shooting 5 extra balls in a row and then still have four more balls to play. I think you could continually repeat that process if you roll over the score reels back to 0000. Playtime is in my collection because of the bunny theme, not because it is a challenge to play. Same reason I have Hula Hula, great Roy Parker art.

Okay. I asked because on the Chicago Coin Bronco AAB, if the score is set lets say
on 700, it'll give an extra ball every time 700 appears (1,700, 2,700, ect.) so I
have it set at 1,000 so every 1,000 points awards an extra ball.
Your Playtime saying Shoot Extra Ball Now is interesting. For years I had a Playtime
head in the barn, and since the head was easy to get to and I had to go in the barn

the AAB Bronco, it says 'Shoot Added Ball Now'

However, although it's in with the other Replay Playtimes, one of the Playtime's backglass

Got my coin door stickers that came from https://www.stl-bb.com.

They are printed with white and metallic inks on mirrored foil and look pretty slick. There is a subtle mirroring on the C D I letters.

I found the height was perfect, but they were about 1/8" too wide. I trimmed with an xacto knife before installing it.

It seems the Internet Pinball Data Base has no information on the Chicago Coin
Add-a-Ball Playtime. I'm sure Jay wouldn't mind seeing a few pics.
The Gottlieb True 2 Player AAB machines are pretty rare, but the Chicago Coins
seem to be very rare. All 5, 6, or however many different ones they made..
I actually wouldn't mind any of them, but Hula Hula is the one I keep an eye out for..

Does anyone have a recommendation for replacing the photo cell in a Sound Stage/Juke Box? I'm working on one for a customer and it's dead. I can jump it and it works just fine through the relays and into scoring, so it's definitely the actual photo receptor. I saw a post about an oil cad burner used, but that post was over 5 years ago and doubt the person is still here.

I would definitely have pursued it but I’m in the middle of a house move. I would have grabbed it to make sure it was probably restored and eventually into the right hands of someone who appreciated it’s uniqueness.

Can anyone identify this old bowler? It's got the cool round headed guy that Chicago Coin seemed to use on it's arcades in the late 40s. No pics of the glass. Guess it could be a custom repaint but it looks pretty darn good.

I figured it out. Chicago Coin Trophy Bowl. Found line listed in 1950 Billboard magazine. This one doesn't have a glass. A local guy I know also has one which is a strange coincidence as it seem like kid of an oddball/lesser seen game.
