Technically it’s not a Pinball but still Chicago Coin!

#452 6 years ago

My sound stage is having a ball / player count issue being caused by the ball count spider gear not fully returning home. I cleaned all the contacts and loosened the tension a little but no joy. Are there replacement springs around for these or can i maybe get another half turn out of it, or is there another fix?

#453 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

If it steps up with ease, you can give it more return tension, but first, after
cleaning, have you lubed (with light grease) the Wiper Board? And I have to
be truthful, after lubing, I really like thinning the lube slightly by applying a thin
film of Remminington Gun Oil over the lube..

#454 6 years ago

I had not lubed it, I thought that was a no-no. Fake news?

#455 6 years ago

I remember an old vendor saying lubing only collects dust (a lazy excuse).
After getting ball bowlers from him, some of the score motor wiper rivots
were worn down to nothing. Riding on the blade itself. After replacing the
wiper's rivots in the mid 90s and having a bowler out on location since then,
there's minimum to no wear. Now of coarse a Ball Count Unit won't get the
wear as a score motor's wiper, but lubing is a huge plus.
That being said, your ball count should return home without the lube, so a little
more return on the spring may be a good idea, but I would definitely also lube (all
step ups). My Sound Stage has been set up maybe 15 years, and outside of waxing,
never had it opened..

A few more and I can re-theme to the entire American or National league. Perhaps this is my next venture.... haha

If you were closer to N.Y., I think I could use another..
All Mini Baseballs, or were other items in the deal..
I take it that it was a package deal..

I know you weren't talking about my rifle game but thanks for the reminder. In case people didn't realise, my Champion Rifle Range *is* a pinball machine.

So my problem is actually that there is a tiny bit of play between the gear and the wipers on my "ball in play" assembly. The gear returns to zero but the wiper motor has just enough slack to throw it off. Does anyone make parts for this any more or is there a common fix?

Was there supposed to be a washer or spacer in there?

#463 6 years ago

I don't know. The whole stack has the same shape as the shaft, like a rectangle with rounded ends, or a circle with two sides cut off.

#464 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

Okay, are you saying that the wiper's oval hole has play, or I'm thinking most likely you're saying
that the shaft that the wiper attaches to has play with the gear that it's attached to?

#465 6 years ago

The wipers oval hole has play around the shaft that turns it

#466 6 years ago

Not that it would make a difference, but a metal washer should be over the shaft before
the wiper goes on..
One thing you can try is to epoxy the wiper to that metal washer. Of course you'll
want to make certain that the wiper is lined properly with the washer.
It's strange that slack had worn. That wiper's nylon is pretty thick..

#467 6 years ago

Yeah... the nylon, the bakelite, (?) And steel all have play over the shaft all the way front to back so I don't think the shaft is worn or it would be only in the middle. Nothing big enough to be visible. It doesn't make a difference how tight or loose the nut is or an extra wrap on or off the spring on the gear. Anybody have any of these parts extra? I'm going to try PBR on Monday. Maybe I can find a part number before then so I don't get fussed at. Edit: Looks like "130-518 - backup washer" for the metal one which I don't see anywhere, or the wiper finger ass'y "464-2507"

20180407_102847.jpg20180407_102847.jpg

#468 6 years ago

So the shaft seems to be okay, but the washer and nylons are worn. You feel
another washer and nylon would solve the problem?

#469 6 years ago

That's what I'm hoping, a long with hoping I'll actually be able to find some.

#470 6 years ago

I have C.C. Ball Bowler parts. I think the washer and nylons may match. I'll check tomorrow..

#471 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

That's what I'm hoping, a long with hoping I'll actually be able to find some.

Probably someplace, but for now I hadn't spotted a nylon, but I do have a couple
washers with the oval hole. I tried one on my Sound Stage shaft, and it fits snugly.
If you feel they may be something that you could work with, I'll send them your
way. Just need to know where to send them.. (T)

#472 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

The wipers oval hole has play around the shaft that turns it

Is it possible the wipers are simply bent too far making them push too hard on the contact surface.
You want them to make contact but any contact is usually enough for them to function electrically.

Hey crew,
I am looking for a schematic for a Chicago Coin Coney Island shooting gallery. I'm having some issues where the scoring reel won't reset, as well as some problems with the ferris wheel target.

I recently purchased a 1968 Chicago Coin 4-player game "Stage Coach", and discovered that the score motor has a broken set screw and shaft that sits in the middle of the three heavy plastic cams on the score motor.
These plastic shaft/set screw assemblies and cams were made of heavy plastic, and I can either replace it with another plastic version of the set screw/shaft, or else try and re-tool a metal version.

Does anyone happen to have a spare score motor from this vintage that they would sell?

Please PM me, if so.

Thanks a bunch,

Larry Zartarian

I have 10 Chicago Coin Mini Baseballs I have for sale at $500 each. Consider them all projects. All but 1 has the base. Have new front decals for most as well.

Thanks so much for the referral to Clay's repair tip site.
Yes, I'm going to try and fix it this way, as Steve Y. at Pinball Resource also suggested a metal fix to the plastic cam and shaft.

Thanks again -- I appreciate it!

This is my first post and hopefully, I'm in the right place.

Bring back a CC Cinema machine, got the game to reset and play after a lot of fixing.
The problem now is the ball return kicker, it takes a couple of rotations on the score motor before it fires.
In the meantime, the ball count will advance one or two balls.
Trying to fine tune the related contact switches, but haven't found the sweet spot yet.
Also the game will add players on its own, but I think I have it adjusted okay now, fingers crossed.
Any input, advice or direction where to start will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I always try to concentrate on one issue at a time.
Working on multiple fronts tends to confuse me.
By the time all of the issues are addressed, I am an expert on that machines operations at least until I start on the next machine.

#488 5 years ago

Thanks for the reply.
Did some fine tuning on the score motor contacts, but still have issues.
The machiane as a whole is working good overall.
Just a couple of problems that happen randomly.

1. With one coin/one player the machine will activate the 2nd 3rd and 4th players.
Usually happens on the second or third ball. But only now and then.

2. Ball count skips 1 to 2 balls occationally. This happens mostly when the ball return kicker doesn’t firer.
This also is at random. May go 10 games then start to skips balls for a few games.
Both problems seem to be related to the score motor contacts.

Any input would be appreciated.

Posting this here in case any Chicago Coin owners can help identify this coil from one of their old games. The coil in the attached pics is from a 1938 Chicago Coin Swing. Looking to replace it, but even PBR can't tell what coil would replace it. Any help would be great.

Just joined the club! I picked up a Dolphin for $200 that the owner said was huo. Original owner bought it for themselves and kept it till he passed away then gave it to this guy. It didn't work so he didn't know what to do with it. I think he was glad to get so much for it.

I don't know what is wrong with it but it looks to be in great shape. Back glass has some flaking in the corner but the play field and plastics look they are new

Yes, both printed on the new coil. And in a 1947 parts catalog someone helpfully posted.

Well, turns out not quite the correct coil. Very close, and I am going to try to use it. But if anyone finds something close, let me know.

Just picked up tonight, along with the 8 Ball Deluxe LE that I really wanted --- 1976 Chicago Coin Sound Stage. Unfortunately, have 10 games in a space for 6 or 7, so just put it up for sale on Pinside Market, and a couple other places. But interesting looking game.
