I'm in the club (Checkpoint Club post #500!) with my 14th Data East pin.

Currently in pretty good shape, fixed a switch or two, replaced a broken drop target, raised the back glass rear panel so display lined up proper, made a ramp repair and already converted to Comet LED's.

Have to order a knocker and new lane guides this week. Why did people remove the knockers on DE pins? Maddening, I should just keep them in stock.

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

I assume most of you have it on freeplay mode.
It’s supposed to be red when it needs coins and turn green when it has credits on the machine. That’s it. A nice little touch to add some flair to a game that is absolutely packed. The most “premium” DE ever made feature-wise compared to today’s games.

I am going to have to check mine, I did not notice this.

#505 3 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

After making the ramp in this game, I have come to find out this game is really, really popular in Germany due to having Porsches on it. I have probably sent close to as many to Germany as I have sent throughout the USA now. I wonder how many of these are left in the USA vs. Europe?

Oddly enough, Pinside only shows one owner in Germany.

I may have to buy a ramp for mine JodyG, I have done repairs to mine but if a keeper something I have to give serious consideration. As a car theme it goes a long way in attractiveness.

Quoted from TenaciousT:

From the manual page #25 Green =" Clean me light" Red =" Tech. Check " as in a switch is stuck or has not been closed for 50 games .

In free play the green will flash when in attract mode.

#510 3 years ago
Quoted from TenaciousT:

More Green light /red light info . Red light flashing - Indicates a critical switch is stuck or has not been closed for 50 games .
Green light - ON - indicates 1500 games have been played and playfield cleaning is recomended .
Green light - Flashing - indicates 2250 games have been played and playfield cleaning is strongly recomended .
The Red light will go off automatically after the bad switch(s) have been repaired , to turn the Green light off you must enter Game cleaned AD 09and change it's setting from NO to Yes by depressing the Start button . Doing so will reset the Clean Game counter to 0.

1) Interesting enough, mine will reset and the light will go off and the next time I start the game be flashing again.

2) Anyone have a clue what the "Ball Kick" animation is? I have it turned on in settings but have not seen anything yet.

1) Ball Kick might be an attract mode. Had the machine on for about an hour or two and all of a sudden it shrieked "REDLINE" and launched all three balls! Centaur is supposed to do that as well, first time owning a pin that had that feature.

2) made an air ball deflector out of lexan for the main target bank, have had a few balls get stuck up there. Not anymore.

3) Replacement knocker came in and installed along with lane guides.

More fun with Lexan, got tired of the ball getting trapped every once in awhile after coming out of chute.

Quoted from JodyG:

Does anyone have the ability to measure out the metal bracket plate with ball drop cutout at the exit end of the ramp? Or have an extra one I can borrow and mail back? I want to start making these and including them on the Checkpoint ramps since they are riveted in place.

I can make up a print tonight I think Jody.

That do you? Only measurement I did not get was rivet locations, my ramp is currently glued to bracket... for the moment.

Does anyone have a pic under playfield of where the left pop bumper lighting wires go?
Somehow becam disconnected but can’t see where they should go.
Thanks.

The 2 black wires, top left of picture running to diode strip under playfield.

I have not see a pin that loved to airball so much.

More Lexan.

Quoted from metalkatt:

I like that addition. I could use one of those....

I don't even know how the ball gets up there.

Happened twice, both times during multi-ball when I'm not looking upfield.

#530 3 years ago
Quoted from metalkatt:

I like that addition. I could use one of those....

I sanded the bottom and hit it with orange paint.

Made a print and inquired with a vendor if they would like to make it. I'll let you know what they say.

Quoted from freddy:

Mabe cause your missing the plastic
[quoted image]

Can't say, no idea how the ball gets up there in the first place.

If its an air ball I doubt the flat plastic would change anything and the game air balls like mad.

Quoted from MJW:

Could current owners tell me if the flag target works reliable in your game? Flag should come up during 3 multi ball.
I adjust switch use switch test and works for a few games and then won’t work at all.
Over and over ...
Thanks.

Yes, works fine. The drop switch was fussy on mine, seems fine now.

#538 3 years ago
Quoted from MJW:

Thanks. Any tips ? Must be missing something.

I think I might have taken my switch apart and gently cleaned with scotch brite.

#540 3 years ago
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

That little metal circle at the end of the ramp. Never seen one of those before on any of the Checkpoint’s I’ve seen. Even the “collector HUO” one my buddy bought. Is that custom?
For some reason Checkpoint’s always seem to be missing SOMETHING no matter how nice.

Nope that's factory.

#542 3 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

It also assists in mounting the ramp to one of the sling posts, correct?

Yes, I'll take a close up on the way out the door to work.

#543 3 years ago

1) ignore the 2 holes at vertical location of bracket. My old ramp was so busted up at the bottom that I added 2 fasteners here to secure it.

2) I have seen in one case a decal here that had "WIN" with a sign pattern, not sure if factory or not. I suspect not but nice little mod. I'm thinking of something similar.

3) new ramp from Jody is both riveted and has glob of E6000 clear adhesive between the rivets and at vertical location so there is zero chance of ramp flexing around rivet location and breaking there again.

I see a few that could work fine, just do a search for "win flag" clipart and several promising images come up.

WIN. Is bone stock original!!!
[quoted image]

Never seen one with win on it aside from that one example which isn't stock. Note the pop rivets holding pitstop plastic.

Ran off a flag one tonight, not bad.

Quoted from freddy:

The pic I posted is from a game I owned it’s original

Which I simply pointed out, I have not seen any collaborating documentation. I have literally looked at 1000's of Checkpoint pictures (because my Checkpoint was missing stuff) and that is the single example I can find.

Even checked the IPMD which has prototype Checkpoint pictures.

https://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=498&picno=75976

No sticker.

I'm not saying that it didn't come that way, I'm saying I can't find any evidence of any other Checkpoints that did.

Just too follow up on this, I finally found where the sticker came from.

Data East Back to the Future spinner decals.

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

I’m surprised how active this club is.
Maybe I should dig out my Checkpoint and get it going again. Mine has some really F’d up stuff going on.
And someone stole parts out of the drop target bank, and parts for the 3-bank are impossible to get. The little metal tube that the springs go on for tension is missing.

I might be able to help.

Quoted from cookpins:

Looking for opinions on current market value of a HUO single owner Checkpoint in excellent original condition. Love the theme, which has me wanting to join the club but not looking to drastically overpay.

Depending on playfield condition, 2000 to 3000.

In this market who knows.

#583 2 years ago
Quoted from cookpins:

That's what my thoughts were. They are beyond your top, trying to get them back down to realty and closer to it.

Mines pretty nice, paid 2200 for is a year ago and it was pretty much turn key.

#585 2 years ago

Playfield is better than average, RD power supply is a flag though. Very unreliable in my experience. Cabinet condition?

#588 2 years ago
Quoted from metalkatt:

This is a good one. And they make other boards for this pin also.
https://xpinpinball.com/product/xp-de5047/

Xpin is ok, they are noisy with some DE titles though. Stock is best if recapped, they are pushing 40 years old. The RD ones are quieter than Xpin, Xpin much more reliable.

#589 2 years ago

I think over 3k is unrealistic, depends on you though.

#593 2 years ago
Quoted from Morgoth00:

He didn't provide any pics of the 2 problematic PF areas, the pit stop saucer and the center drops.

The drops look ok, I did note the saucer was not shown.

Quoted from cmylxgo:

Couple of pics. I noticed that mine is missing a top plastic cover over the metal shield. Also, wonder if my metal shield is sitting too high?? I could try and remove the nut spacer under it and see if it clears the targets and helps.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I made my own which doubles as a ball deflector.
