I bought optos in bulk a couple years ago in case I had future problems with opto boards. I don't remember where from to look up the order, I don't have specs noted on the parts drawer. I used then today to try to rebuild my taf bookcase opto boards and they do not work.

I had a good look at them before installing, and am fairly certain they are oriented same as the originals. Is there a way to confirm polarity with multimeter?

Additionally, is there any way for me to figure out the specs with a multimeter? Or are these junk now?

Long leg is positive, short is negative.

There is also a flat side, another negative indicator.

You encouraged me to experiment with something contrary to what my google search was telling me, and you were the right one!

So google previously led me (heh heh "LED", no pun intended) to a page that said to ignore the flat side and leg length, they are commonly wrong. And to pay attention to the shape inside the LED (I think the shapes were described as "anvil" and "post" or something like that), and make sure that is what I follow when putting in the new ones. Which is what I did.

Take them all out, and put them back in with the flat side matching the printed board, and they're all good.

    Thank you!
