Even though my Grand Lizard has a remote battery holder, I was stupid and changed the batteries anyway. Now I get the Adjust Failure message. Was having difficulty getting the old batteries out so probably bumped something. Tested the red wire at the board and it's getting 5.18 volts with the power off so the wiring and new batteries seem ok. Wires feel solidly connected to the board.

Is there something wrong with this set up? Why didn't I just leave it alone?

Open coin door and turn on and off a couple times. Also possible coin door interlock switch is sticking.

Was the machine on or off when you changed the batteries?

I was wondering the same thing. If off, perhaps something just returned to default and you need to reset the settings. I’m not sure what adjust failure signifies on this pin.

If it continues to happen, the 5101 RAM chip might be going bad or the chip socket needs replacing.

I see... The only Williams game I own is a System 6. Thanks for correcting.

For future reference, changing the batteries is one of the very few things that you want to do with the game turned ON.
If you change them with the game OFF, it will give you the ADJUST FAILURE message since it lost memory with no power or batteries for a few minutes.
Not a big deal, but you'll lose your high scores and settings.

The message is either FACTORY SETTING or ADJUST FAILURE depending on whether the coin door is open or closed (I forget which). Both messages mean the same thing - no saved data. Not sure why they decided to program it like this.

Yep, I changed them with the machine off. Oops. Good to know!
