Quoted from kpg:

Don't be salty Iceman, you are better and more professional then that.
Assuming 100 people bought 1 defective Stern product, that's potentially $800,000 in defective merchandise. Assuming those people have bought a minimum of 3 Stern products in the past and during the time they are in the hobby, that amounts to customers providing millions of dollars in revenue to Stern who are very pissed at them right now. That is nothing to laugh at.

I have budget for 2-3 NIB pins a year. In 2017, no matter what happens, that won't go to Stern. I have already preordered a Dialed In and for now that looks like all I'll be buying.

Quoted from iceman44:

Good to see they acknowledge defects again and are working on them

They haven't worked to fix anything.

For someone not being paid (I assume you aren't), it's really sad how much of a trollish shill you are. What's the point of doing this? People are pissed off, frustrated, and left in the cold by Stern and all you can do is come in and wave your pom poms around and shout cheers for Stern Pinball. Enough already.

I'm not shilling anything and have a right to express my satisfaction which I'm doing
Looking forward to buying more Stern pins in 2017
Aerosmith up next!
Keep beating the drum though, you have every right to say whatever the F you want over and over again

You can't be so clueless as to think that a thread asking for support in fixing defective playfields is the right place to lead on some cheering, can you? I mean...really?

Criticism and support is fair, but in a thread about trying to get some sort of help or feedback from Stern is probably the wrong place to run noise counter to that purpose. People want Stern held to the fire, and you're throwing water on it. Since we can't get answers directly, and we can't ask for help via social media, these are the only outlets that affected buyers have. Stop stomping on those complaints with your piles of antagonistic chatter.

Quoted from nowakster:

word on the street is it's a cosmetic issue.

Uh, no. Uneven inserts, cracking inserts, and chipping in impact areas has a real effect on gameplay. Mild ghosting is just cosmetic, but if you have a playfield that has moved beyond just a mild amount, cracking or chipping is the next step.

Quoted from kermit24:

I have not seen one Batman with ghosting. Am I missing something?

I have only seen crazing, but no ghosting. Pics of some chipping have surfaced, however.

The big issue is that QC was so relaxed again, even on a premium product. Games arriving DOA or with issues that should have been smoothed out in testing.

But yeah, don't think we've actually seen reports of ghosting.

Man, all I know is that all four GBs in my area (2 LE, 1 premium, 1 pro) that I have been able to see should be in the replacement program, but not one person has heard anything. Issues from chipping to ghosting are common on all the games, as well as sloppy assembly that required the owner to do extensive tweaking to make the game play correctly.

I don't care what the product is, it can't be handed over to the consumer in non-functioning and in bad cosmetic shape.

Quoted from Mike_J:

It appears the only Stern machines I will buy now are 12 month old HUO.

I will only buy used games now. Routed or HUO, it doesn't matter as long as the condition is good. I just don't want to roll the dice any more with NIB Stern games.

Quoted from bhwolf:

So, what's the possibility here that there's no problem with the playfield/clear, but a problem with the design, speed, airballs, etc. of the machine? I'd be curious if ghosting occurs without any usage, or are airballs/etc landing on the inserts causing it?

No, it's not that. SMVE has playfield issues that the original Spider-Man does not have. It's a quality and process issue.

Quoted from vid1900:

Although collectors love the **left outside in an icestorm** look of thick clear, it's not really ever been a part of pinball history.

I'm not a fan of the high gloss finish on newer playfields. I very much prefer a very clean, barely even reflective, Diamond Plate playfield any day.

Quoted from kpg:

Update: Buyback from Stern isn't going anywhere so far, they are giving Trent, my distro, a bunch of shit and not getting back to his repeated calls and emails.
I'll never buy a POS Stern ever again.
If you ever play the Stern NIB lotto again, I hope you don't get a defective product like me - what a goddamn joke this company is !

Disappointing. I still haven't had any word about my replacement. I really hope that they're not walking back on this. I don't get why there's been absolutely no word.

#809 7 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Yeah I don;t know why they're draggin' their feet with you 2 guys
not making light of your situation mind you.

I'm not the customer, the distributor is. Stern has a distributor that needs a replacement playfield. In kpg's case, they do know his distributor and situation, but I don't know of a single LE owner that has had their playfield replaced. Stern is dragging their feet overall. Again, if they're not ready, they're not ready. They can at least SAY SOMETHING though. Give an update. That wouldn't be hard at all to do.

#811 7 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

It is hard for them.
So the replacement PF that went out have all been Pros?

I think we've seen a premium or two get replaced, but one of them had chipping right away again. I'm not in any rush to get the actual playfield, because I'm not sure that they have it all figured out, but I do think some communication would be nice. It's really hard to know how large the replacement scope is, because not everybody is posting about it here. If it wasn't for the 2-3 people who have posted, nobody would even know that some replacements had been sent out.

Quoted from Delta9:

Just got an email from stern im on the list for a new le playfeild

I have been "on the list" for six months now. First week of September I sent my pics in and was told I was in the program.

Quoted from hoby1:

if its a recent build you will be fine . The two PF swaps around here are perfect plus you get to see before delivery... No worries.

Uh, no...one of the replacements started chipping right away.

#842 7 years ago
Quoted from JoshODBrown:

Got my Pro playfield swapped today. Right away I can tell the clear coat on the game is much different than my original run playfield from March. only about 15 games into it, but nothing chipping or ghosting so far. keeping a close eye on it every few games to see if anything develops. I was interested to see what the date on it was. appears its dated the 25th day of some month in 2016, but I can't make out the month, looks mangled, guessing its probably not December. maybe its October or November? hard to say. my original playfield had a lot of crazing on the inserts, new one looks clear, very vibrant when lit up, especially the big color changing arrows for the major shots. Will be watching it closely over the next two weeks, as it should get a fair amount of play. I had photos and video of my original playfield that you could see ghosting was starting at least as early as a week after we took delivery.
Swap process was very smooth, my dealer was in and out within an hour or so, tested all the switches, made some small adjustments and we were on our way! happy with it so far, but we'll see how it goes!

Every swap I see happen makes me feel a bit better. Hopefully this works out for you.

Just pinged my distributor to see what the status of my playfield replacement is at right now. Haven't heard anything since being accepted for replacement back in September...
