Got a Chicago Expo mailing list thing on 9/9 that has this curious bit at the top where the show is asking people to bring games:

"We will offer a one day admission for each game that you bring or a $30 credit per game, per day against whatever admission package you would purchase. "

One _DAY_ admission or a $30 credit -- PER GAME?

    That's new/worse.

Re-reading it for the 500th time, maybe it's just Pacak failing at english.

"one day admission for each game that you bring or a $30 credit per game, per day"

Is that supposed to mean you get one day admission for each day the game is there? If it sells and leaves you're done? It's still not very clear.

    #3 6 years ago

All I know is that Andrew isn't helping out again this year and that makes me sad.

    #4 6 years ago

You should get a free day of admission for each day your machine is in the free play area.

That has been how it has always been for the last 5 years i have been going and bringing a game. I set it Wednesday and break it down on Sunday. but they would give me a game bringer wrist band and I would be good for the whole show everywhere. bummer Andrew isn't running it again. pretty cool dude. I'm still bringing a game this year.

I want $30 just for trying to figure this out.

I plan on bringing MikeP a new free Computer Keyboard to the show this year.

I don't know exactly what he means, but are you suggesting someone should be able to bring a game, get admission, sell their game on the first day and that game leaves, and they are compensated the same as someone who has a game operating the entire time?

game per day = admission per day seems fair to me. Not sure how it was done in the past, and I fully understand the history with Mike and the relationship with everyone so I'm not defending that.

    #9 6 years ago

Don't forget the package deal, bring a bunch of games and Mike tells you that you get fewer wristbands. He was doing that last year.
Andrew is out, as are several volunteers.

In the past it was always: Bring game, get weekend band -- there was no policing of whether or not things sold. If it's a strict per day deal now, are you going to have to re-verify every day to get that day's band? Not saying that's out of line, just saying it would be a new thing.

    #11 6 years ago

I suspect this is similar to past years, though Mike will hopefully answer to clarify and confirm. I think it is to help when people buy a weekend pass AND bring a game.

    I believe:
    1 game = 1 day admission
    Or
1 game = $30 credit for any other admission package

You think that is bad take a look at this:

    *PLEASE NOTE*
Vendor hall will not be open during day on Thursday until 6.
Game hall will not be open during day Thursday until 6 but at 1pm on Friday

I know. It's the wording that is f***ed up

Bummer, after several years of organized and well run Free play room, we are going back to the old way! I do hope Mike finds someone to 'run' it as he is usually too busy with setting up the hall, etc.

    Damon

    #18 6 years ago

Pretty sure it was the same last year?

I don't know what's hard to understand though, for each day you have a game on the floor, you get 1 day free admission, or $30 credit.

That is very fair to me. I had a little gripe last year when bringing two games in, they only wanted to credit it as one. So I just registered the second game under a friend's name.

I believe that was Mikes rules not Andrews.

To difficult to deal with pACaK, f' him. Since MGC looks to be moving, how about moving to October and south and putting Mike out of OUR misery.

That was Mike's rule in spite of what was his written policy. This led to @$$hole literally accusing the registration volunteers of stealing from him. One volunteer was ready to beat the sh!t it off him for that.

I'll go back... once Mike is gone for good...

It would be nice if Rob Berk brought his whole collection to the show. He has a dynamic set up.

    That's not our location, sorry.

In all honesty, Expo is an industry show, mgc is not. If I was to consider running a second show, I would make sure it wasn't the same time as Expo.

    #26 6 years ago

there is no change THE WORDING IS WRONG ITS THE SAME AS ALWAYS A DAYS ADMISSION FOR EACH DAY GAME IS THERE ARM BAND IF GAME IS THERE ALL WEEK NO CHANGE AT ALL SORRY FOR CONFUSION

    #27 6 years ago

    It's still Expo.

Go and have a great time.

I know you wouldn't do that, it's a half joke/wishful thinking. I wish we had competent leadership at expo like you guys. We've brought stuff to MGC before even though it's farther and will likely keep doing so.

OK THANKS A LOT FOR THE CLARIFICATION NOW I JUST HAVE TO DECIDE IF I AM GOING TO PICK UP THIS HURRICANE AND HAVE IT READY FOR THE SHOW I DONT KNOW IF I HAVE ENOUGH TIME BUT IF I DO IT WILL BE FOR SALE BUT IT WILL STAY THE ENTIRE TIME I HOPE

    #30 6 years ago

    abc ABC ,.'!?

    It's only proper English grammar.

    #31 6 years ago
    Quoted from Marvin:

    I know you wouldn't do that, it's a half joke/wishful thinking.

We've had a lot of people push us to do a "half year show" that would be a bit different from the full year show including proposing some different locations, but if we ever end up doing something like that, it would be the same "style" as the show we already run - with the focus on the collector side of the trade show and not the industry.

Expo fills that niche, which is honestly why I think some people find themselves frustrated by it. It fill an industry need that we never could, even if we could make the financials for a second show halfway work.

    #32 6 years ago

I too, was confused by the wording, but it's all gooD now

    #33 6 years ago

I figure I could bring 45 machines, and sponsor 44 of my friends and family.

You would need all of them, to haul that many machines in, and out of the show.

You bring 45 games, you should get 45 wrist bands. Doesn't matter what you do with them.

    #35 6 years ago

If only there was someone that could fix mistakes on the website.

Pacak was not doing that last year, and told the game room volunteers they were stealing from him by giving out too many wristbands (equal number to games brought) to people bringing multiple games.

compliments it but down plays its offerings and then says it is great. Where I am from this is called a shit sandwhich.

    #40 6 years ago

So there's no incentive to bring more games than you have people to sponsor them? Why should someone like phoebE bring a trailer full of fantastic games?
