In my game I went with incandescent bulbs for the GI & in the backbox. Except for the bulbs behind the green lower curtains - those are 1 SMD leds (frosted dome). I also left the cheap orange leds that the PO installed behind the "Champion Pub" script.

Thanks Cad-Kid!
Here's a list of issues I am working through:
The Champion Pub - To Do List
(Top 2 items are game-stoppers. Game cannot be played with glass installed)
-Boxer's right arm doesn't always go back down after the coil fires. When the boxer rotate back (to show the punching bag again), its arm gets caught in the ramp, binding the motor and crushing the ramp, and damaging the boxer's knuckles.
Possible culprit: Page 2-23, 1j and 1g: 4010-01186-04 (SS 10-32 x 1/4 SH-SCP(2)) and A-22188 (Plunger Assembly).
Feels like the arm linkage binds at its top position (when the arm is at its top-most position).
-Ball Search mode while in play.
Page 2-34, A22221 (Disappearing Post Assembly). Up to three balls can be "locked" behind this post (each ball has a switch on the playfield). When 2 or more balls are behind the post, the post doesn't do its job. It partially lets a ball through, but the ball gets stuck between the post and the side-rail. The game will not re-try to fire the post coil while in ball-search mode. So the game is stuck forever.
Possible culprit: Wrong coil installed? Sleeve mucked? Spring too strong?
Page 2-34, Coil is AE-26-1500. Spring is 10-135.
-Right flipper has play in the linkage. Game could use a flipper rebuild kit?
-No bass / low frequency in the sound at all! All three(3) speakers produce sound though, but it's super trebbly, even when game set to medium volume. Very obvious when compare to Last Action Hero and STTNG (in the same game room).
Right speakers are installed? The right speaker in the head is much smaller than the left.
Replacement Speakers? Pinside post.
5 1/4 units from marco #5555-12856-00 ($15.95 x 2) (If you change both you need to change the speaker mount for the RH side)
Changing the bottom speaker out with a marco 6 inch 5555-12929-00 ($18.99 x 1) also made a good change.
(Of course you could just purchase a flipper fidelity sound system from Pinball life)
-Boxer's head has a crack at the mounting screws. Page 2-23, item 3b, 31-3064 (Boxer Head, Molded).
Might super-glue the crack to stop it?
-Speedbag spotlight doesn't light up. Since all the G.I. shuts down during speedbag, makes it hard to see the ball.
*FIXED* : Took the socket apart. One socket prong was closed too tight, so one side of the LED couldn't grab properly.
-Ball search mode while in play (Problem #1).
*FIXED* : Took apart the trough opto boards and cleaned the LEDs and receivers.
Also, if it saves people a couple keystrokes:

Below are the photos I took when working on my boxer. If you are good with mechanical stuff, I recommend taking out the boxer and take the arms and links off. Mine needed lube and I swapped the links (left to right). To swap them you need to move the set screw to the other hole. When reassembling I found if I adjusted the coil mounting bracket so the coils were nice and tight, the arms would hang up so I had to slacken it just a bit. There are also springs that help the arms return to the rest position. I may have more photos if you need. Keep us posted-
Thanks a lot for the link! Did not realize that there are also coindoor inserts available on the website.
backglass converted to leds. thank you all for the advice and suggestions! i used a combination of warm and cool 4-led wedges.
cool white leds are behind the green curtains and behind the purple suit guys (bottom). there is also one behind the female waitress.
looks great i think!
What I did (if you want to do it on the cheap) :
and
Which is $29.88 including shipping, and you'll have some spares too.
What pitch is your game set at?
(having issues with balls being released from the lock-post. I am guessing my game is not steep enough)

My lock post was hanging up causing multiple balls to release. You may have a similar problem with the post hanging up (but yours won't go down all the way). If you grab the post below the playfield it should move without dragging and snap back up when released. You may have to re-center the post mech or disassemble and clean the post, coil sleeve, & coil stop.
Quoted from PM_Jeremy:You may have to re-center the post mech or disassemble and clean the post, coil sleeve, & coil stop.
Thanks for the tip! My post goes down and up too fast, doesn't release the ball if there's more than 1 behind the post.

If the post isn't haning up, I would check or replace the 3 micro switches in the ball lock lane. The roll over wires may just need a adjustment.
Good luck on your repairs.
Thanks. Those switches tested just fine. I will attempt to level the pin at maybe 6.5 degrees, and maybe re-aligning the coil mech. Thanks for the tips!
May I ask you a question? Every time I play CP, via PinMame or The Pinball Arcade, the first 4 boxers are always random, and the last is always Steveo. Looking trough a quote sheet, I noticed I haven't ever meet Antonio Jabberini, and searching for him on youtube (it seems nowhere to be found), I noticed sometimes other boxers are at the end of the ladder.
Have the ROMs been changed to hide Antonio and make Steveo the final champion, or is there some hidden perceating thing that I don't know?
Thanks

I find mine totally random. Sometimes I don't get Steve-O for a long while. I have fought Antonio Jabberini many times but I seem to get Master Bing Bang Boom and Dan Unga alot recently. Game is a BLAST!!!
Champion Pub was my first "big" pin purchase and first 90s pin! Before that I only owned a 1980 Stern Ali. I started in the coin op hobby only collecting video games and, of course, have found myself slowly wanting more and more pins. A friend and I played Champion Pub at our local expo a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. He sought one out, and happened to find one for me as well. I do have a couple questions, as a bit of a pin/CP novice. My up/down post in the very back center of the playfield sticks and doesn't go down all the way. So it'll be sticking up from the playfield a quarter inch or so and cause balls to lock every time, so Multibrawl starts almost instantly at the beginning of every game. Sometimes the ball is moving so fast it jumps the stuck post but usually not.
First question, how do I fix the post? Take it apart, clean the sleeve etc or replace the whole thing with new?
Second, even if the post wasn't sticking, why the heck is ball lock lit on the right orbit from the beginning of the game? Normally, wouldn't I need to hit the 3 beer targets to light lock? I noticed on Pinball Arcade it does the same thing. Maybe I just have the game set to an easier mode? I don't want Multibrawl to be some super easy thing to start!
Post I'm talking about is pictured. Thanks guys! It's such an awesome game!!!

doesn't sound broken to me. I think the default setting is just shooting the right orbit, on this game it's pretty easy to get multiball.
the three beer targets give you life in the meter. At least I know they do when you are in a fight. Took me forever to finally get to the cash fights, learning how to drop catch is a must. one tip, Only use the jump rope to gain life you lost from a previous fight, since it's the easiest way to earn the bars back on your health meter without putting the ball in jeopardy. As soon as your life fills up and your ready to fight again, stop jumping. Save the rest of the jumps for when you need to fill the meter again.
can't hurt to take the coils out and test the resistance. I recently had a kickout coil on TOM where the resistance was off by apprx. 1.2 ohms causing the ball not to kick out every time. After replacing the coil, it worked like a champ. Always replace the coil sleeves, their cheap and they come with every coil you buy usually. Most of the post coils also have an adjustment screw you can use to raise or lower the post, so when it's in the off position it will be level with your playfield.
anyway, good luck

The post on my game had a similar issue. When I took it all apart I found the roll pin that holds the two halves together worked loose. After tapping it back in place it got loose again. I ended up replacing the pin/plunger with one from Marco. I kept the original coil and brackets. Also make sure the pin isn't rubbing on the playfield (pin centered in the hole).
There's nothing wrong with going into the settings and making multi-ball harder. Default is the first multi-brawl is easy to get, the second one is harder. It's also pretty easy to get fisticuffs multi-ball and there is a setting to make that harder also.
Congrats on getting CP
Thanks guys. I'm OK with it being easy to get the first time I suppose, but right now after locking ball 1, just launching will lock ball 2 then ball 3, starting multibrawl. I'd hope at least launching wouldn't divert to lock (and I don't think it's supposed to, as I can see when the post is active it's way up there, and when launching it's only sticking up a bit.) I think it's just not resetting to flush with the cabinet. I will try your suggestions cad-kid, I really appreciate it!
Quoted from Evilelement:Starting my new topper, got a little more work to do
Looks great so far
I like the fact that it's not too tall.
A clear vacuum formed version of that would look neat with a little paint and lighting. Just a thought...
If anyone is looking to leave the club. I'm looking for one in nice condition within 5 hours of richmond, virginia

I'm originally from Richmond (went to Short Pump middle) and just bought a CP. I'm in Alexandria, VA now. Sorry, I'm not selling though.

Gidday mates!. Just starting the restore on my Champion pub. I am lucky enough to have two so am restoring a mint one for me and will sell the other as a project or player machine. Both were playing but very dirty and unloved.
For my restore I bought a cleared NOS playfield and now I am getting into it I am noticing some holes missing for posts and lane guides which is upsetting but I can work around it. As I go along I am making subtle changes as well like getting rid of the plastic clip on standoffs etc and using brass screws/coloured posts in areas. I have the colour dmd ready to roll ( so happy they released it now) and also I am now using pinsound in most of my collection and will be doin gthis with Champion Pub as well to make my own custom sound files - can't wait to fix the Australian accent on the boxer lol!
Couple of pics and I am sure I will have questions for you all as I go along!
What images/cards are you guys using for the card rule on the apron?
Both my cards are the crappy white ones with the big boring fonts...
Thoughts?
Is it normal that my ball save post is more to the left than right? I tried to center it by loosening the screws and trying to move the housing, but it didn't seem to work. When the ball rests on the left flipper and ball save post, my shots to the lock lane often don't make it. They go too far left.
Quoted from mamefan:Me too.
I was wrong. These are the ones in my machine. The ones you have came with mine too. Not sure which I like better.

I fixed it by removing the ball save post housing and drilling bigger screw holes into its metal mounting plate so I could move it a little bit.

Mine stick out a little bit too, and balls sometimes get stuck back there instead of coming down the left orbit. I was wondering if that's normal.

Probably normal as a machine ages. But it's not the intended operation of the machine.
