Check J140 & J141 and make sure they look like this with NO mods getting power from either one.
16703820722851359489607809880615 (resized).jpgFollowing up from my previous troubleshooting question post back where (in summary):
a) During gameplay, I was having music cutting out entirely, only SFX playing, and the colorDMD going all yellow, and
b) During machine idle soon after bootup, random "dinging" every few seconds (that same SFX that usually triggers once expectedly as the machine is booting up).
Those issues went away seemingly on their own for a while but have now returned even worse. The latest occurrence during gameplay: Not only did the music cut out, only SFX playing again, but the DMD completely froze this time. Not even upon allowing the ball to drain and going to the next ball did the issue stop. Had to reboot the machine.
smiley recommended which I tried:

Any ideas on those details or what I should try next? Much appreciated!
Recent issue popped up. Boxer triggering head shots on himself when he punches. Is this just a switch behind his head adjusted too close?

yes, more than likely. can be a tricky switch to get adjusted just right.
Quoted from Gavino:Where's that lift/cart from?
Harbor freight. It’s been slightly engineered but it is a must have for us pinheads

Joining the Champion Pub Club tomorrow!
Picking up a VERY nice example and can't wait to tear into it. This one's been on my wish list for ages.
Been studying the manual, and the mechs on this thing are insane! They don't make 'em like this any more. So many coils and switches and boards and optos! But I can handle it. Spent 15 years with a Judge Dredd !
Gonna try to work my way through this forum thread. With just 1600+ games produced, this owners thread is WAY shorter than a lot of the others. People don't know what they're missing.
Yeah, it's kinda shallow by modern standards -- I currently have a Deadpool (Pro) and a Jurassic Park (Pro) -- but it'll be a great change of pace for newbie visitors and myself who's dealing with "Modern Stern Fatigue."
Looking forward to catching up with all the posts! "You haven't seen the last of me, kid."
cp (resized).jpgIn da house! German reimport, credit dot for the head switch, but all good. Gonna enjoy it for a while as-is before I tear into it for cleaning, tweaking, doing settings, etc. Thanks @sylwood2!

Looks great in the game room
Quoted from Green-Machine:My wife is loving my workshop…….. I hope!
Yeah, I'm starting to wonder whether I should pull the playfield to *really* work this thing through!

Haven’t had mine long. Restoring it…. Wow it was dirty in the unreachable areas. I love making them look new again.
4 weeks since I’ve got my Champion Pub and it has been a bear. I have had the glass off and the boxer out more than I’ve played it. The boxer mech if out of wack is a pain! (Especially if you like me have never owned this pin before and have no idea how it all works) Had a gut switch with a broken wire. The head switch was set so sensitive that gut shots wouldn’t register. I think I finally have it dialed in. I’ll have to play test the heck out of it to be sure. Lots of other small adjustments and tweaks to get this machine playable. I probably have at least 8-10 hours into it. I bought it on pinside from a company who said they shopped it out. What a joke.
Quoted from scottslash:I wouldn’t call it a “complete restore,” but it’s gonna be perdy sweet!

You have some cleaning to do. Mine was pretty grubby. I’ve been on hold for parts unfortunately. Flame polished ramps and plastic and they all came out really nice. Saved me some money there for sure.

Wish I could help but also a new owner. I like getting my hands dirty so maybe I’ll dig into that at some point but I’m sure there are some folks on here that have some experience with the boxer mech!
No idea if it's helpful, but there's a YouTube video floating around that seems like it gives a good overview of the boxer mech:
I thought my rails on my machine were shot beyond cleaning. I was thinking about pulling them all and sending them off to be powder coated. Decided to trying brass cleaner. Took about 3-4 hours but I’m pretty satisfied on how they turned out.

I did the oven-off method. Came out great

Thank you in advance[quoted image]
Updated: got it!
IMG_8228 (resized).pngThanks in advance, CP owners -- I'm a bit stumped: Has anyone ever experienced one of the speed bag arms not "holding?" One of fine fires repeatedly when held. It's super annoying to diagnose, and there's no "hold power" like a flipper that would do this, so I don't get it... What could it be?
Quoted from DANGERTERROR:I don't see anything that would result in it firing about once a second, if it was a flipper it would have "hold power" but these are just two lug coils, once they activate, the fist should just plunge and stay plunged. Hmm.
[quoted image]
Have you recently tightened the screws that hold the stainless side rails around it by any chance?
IMG_8321 (resized).jpeg
Quoted from DANGERTERROR:I have not -- could that lead to coil slippage maybe and it losing its "hold"?
I tightened mine too much and were sticking. So I thought to ask just to check that one off the list.
Only other thing I can think of is flipper optos being dirty or damaged. Or your coil sleeve or coil stop on the fist of concern.
You nailed it, it was those nuts. I also cleaned it all up and it fires much more smoothly now! Thanks!
Hi all... I've technically been in the CP club for nearly two years but really just started working on my CP in the past 2.5 months; game was in storage until recently. I finished reading through the entire thread just now and am ready to join in the fun!
So far on my game I've replaced a broken flipper opto board, swapped out the corroded battery holder for a Lithium battery board, replaced all lights (besides flashers) with LEDs/SMDs (still a work in progress as I tweak certain things), and purchased new Ninja balls.
Left to do (partial list):
1. Install ROM 1.6 chip
2. Deep clean playfield
3. Attach new boxer arms - my game had the original arms that failed/broke. I purchased the "B" parts a month back and pulled out the boxer the other day to work on this and the wires, but the sockets in the arms are not big enough to accommodate the square metal mounting posts. The plastic seems slightly pliable, so I'm guessing if I work at it I'll be able to get them on. I seem to recall others in this thread saying they have/had the same issue and heat gun or an improvised tool could do the trick.
4. Fix boxer wiring - there are 3-4 broken wires in the harness, see photos below. Looking for suggestions and thoughts - should I try to splice these? They are in a really tough spot where if I splice (solder + shrink tube) I'm not sure all the wires would fit in the pipe. Or just rebuild/rewire? I'm up for either, just need to source the parts and tools.
Thanks!

Sorry @celticknot. I've no experience with the arms issue. And on the cable harness, yeah, those breaks are in a bad spot for sure. I think I'd be replacing the entire wire(s). Best wishes.

Thanks @scottslash. I think I'll order wires off of Wire-Bot. I've been told I can reuse the existing connectors but will need molex pins of the proper diameter (0.062" for 22-gague wire?) and a crimp tool. Pulled the head and torso off of the boxer and now can see that the other ends of the wires are soldered to the switches, so looks like it'll be 7 pins and a couple tools. Will order some spares.
Arms:
I was able to get the arms on by hitting them with a hot hairdryer blast for about 30 seconds. They softened up nicely and slid right on.
Wiring Harness:
Bought supplies from Wire-Bot to rebuild the harness with broken wires. Boxer is fully assembled and back in the game and working like a champ now (ahem).
Cheers!
