I think the pic is real... I get the feeling it is either going to be loved or hated.
All of Raw Thrills' products are visually compelling. Why make your first pinball commitment to something that looks like that photo (if real)? Just doesn't make sense.
Playfield art always looks better in person. Pulp Fiction text on the playfield almost looks like Waffle House haha
I really want to love this game, I wore out the VHS of this movie so I will be extra picky. I think the image is a troll post
If it isn't:
No love for the kahuna burger over here. It looks out of place even with grainy imaging, it really sticks out. IMHO it just looks cheap.
The 5 characters on playfield include Mia, Vincent, Jewels, The Wolf and... Jimmy? I know Quentin has a helluva ego but really?!? Marsellus and Butch want to have a word.
No way Tarantino approved the "art" that's in that grainy ass image. His whole world is build around visual imagery, and there is no way that cheesy garbage art would be approved. If I'm wrong, then I definitely won't be buying this game.
Quoted from herbertbsharp:Playfield art always looks better in person. Pulp Fiction text on the playfield almost looks like Waffle House haha
Haha thank you, I was just about to say this
Can someone pm me the leaked supposed playfield image? Or a link to it online? I can't seem to find it.

Pulp Fiction came out in 1994. That's what game playfields looked like then. Perhaps Quentin Tarantino was involved and said "make it look like the pin came out with the movie" like Shadow or Congo or Demo Man or Lethal Weapon etc. Or that was the decision of the creative team. I'm only speculating.
But it's a rational explanation.
It's not a style that I have any nostalgia or affection for. Others may feel differently.
We also have the worst possible source image, a lot can change when you see details.
I think it has 2 ramps in the middle (Mia on the left, Vincent on the right), going to a Jack Rabbit Slim upper play field that has 2 pops and no flippers
Don't let the (potential) art get you down too much, folks. Dirty Harry and DE Jurassic Park both have meh art, but they're still super fun
Quoted from cait001:Don't let the (potential) art get you down too much, folks. Dirty Harry and DE Jurassic Park both have meh art, but they're still super fun
True, but since this is 2023 we expect so much more for art on a pinball machine.
Quoted from oneballjab:full assets
When people say "assets" what they usually mean is "video clips," so if what you really mean is the latter, I would say temper your expectations to a Bond 60th level of assets.

If the manufacturer didn't add it, modders would. They saved you money!

Tarantino's entire oeuvre is a love letter to nostalgia. Travolta earned his role in Pulp Fiction by spending an evening playing '70s board games of Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Welcome Back Kotter, dropping lines in character, at Quentin's request. Dude would absolutely be okay with period-correct 1994 Data East playfield art.

The Pulp Fiction soundtrack is probably what has me most hyped about this game. I realise there are waaaay too many licensing issues to have the full list, It would probably be a mess trying to get approvals from so many different entities (but what do I know). Having said that, it can be the most amazing Pulp fiction playfield and gameplay but if the music isn't nitpicked carefully, it could have a negative effect because it is sooooo expected.
tried going over the songs last night and figuring out what would be fitting and what doesn't relate as much to the game. There are quite a few surf tunes there, melody only, they'd be soooo good. I'd love to read what tracks you guys EXPECT, the must haves...... and which ones shouldn't even be considered in everyones opinion.
Quoted from Aurich:Old men have money to buy expensive pinballs.
It is what it is. Too many old movies and themes these days. Bond is embarrassing how old it is. Should have been movies w Danial Craig.
Someone making rocky or Ben hur into a pin? Godfather..also old. John wick would be better for that theme. Bttf..badly outdated and old. Let's hope it doesn't come out.
I prefer the leaked artwork to the Zombie Yeti playfields with less distinct color palettes and not enough breathing room. I'm a surf fiend so the soundtrack is gonna be killer for me, especially Surf Rider. Has there been a pin with a surf soundtrack yet?
What’s a bigger buzz kill a flat top playfield or a family friendly (call outs) game? Call outs for sure, lots of potential here!

I mean, what older man game is there than this one?

Just wait until you find it has Data East music/sound. All those songs done in chipbit.
But to your question...this as a family friendly pin? Makes zero sense.
Maybe it will have a kid mode and adult mode. Does TBL have a edited and adult mode? I don't know anything about that game, but would be amazed if there was a kid mode that changed the quotes to the cable version like "This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps, Larry!" Surely they edited in some silly lines to make Pulp Fiction cable-friendly

the G rated version of that movie would be like 10 minutes long.

Huge Pulp Fiction fan (and fan of the music). Despite its price tag, Stern's Bond 60th missed an opportunity to feature the legendary music (
).
Considering most/all of us have access to all this music (by purchase or stream), it's just infuriating to do without the music on these wildly expensive games. The herculean effort by Tim to add the Jurassic Park assets is just awesome...the John Williams music and original call-outs add so much to the intensity of Sterns Jurassic Park.
Companies need to be forward thinking, and open up their software platform (making it easy for home users to integrate music *IF* the license holders are being a PITA). For me, licenses like Pulp Fiction and Bond need to include the iconic music. Sure, when most pinball was occurring in (loud) arcades, this wasn't that big of an issue. Now that most of these titles are ending up in homes, it's unacceptable to simply blame the license holder. Since almost all of us own the right to listen to this music, why can't a creative solution be developed? Even if you live under a rock and don't have a legal way to listen, I'm sure you would spring for the very modest cost to purchase the music for home use.
I think that pic is real. I was going to suggest maybe it's old, but they made the whole playfield, props and all so it would seem it's more final. However, the only other thing I can think of is an in-house artist did that as a mock up before they committed to a final design, so it might be old and not what it currently is in that case?
Not sure who first posted it and where they got it from. Seems if it was a conversion more people would of been aware of it since it's so well done. And way too elaborate for a fake to also make the pic quality crappy intentionally.
Either way, I don't have the gripe with the art others seem to be having. I'm really excited for this and can't wait to see it in action. Also, I would assume that Tarantino would absolutely require the real music to be a part of it or no deal. But who knows, maybe it's just more of a limited soundtrack instead of a full one.
Quoted from riggy469:It’s still on Kaneda’s FB page

If this is fake, there was a lot of effort put into it. That being said, there are a few vertical and horizontal lines that are going through some of the art/toys that doesn't seem to make sense. The head in the back right has a line through it and it looks like a definitive line under "Pulp Fiction" that changes the shade of blue on the playfield. It looks like someone took pieces from other machines/items and colaged them together, but who knows.
Honestly, I’m really looking forward to seeing the final product on Monday. From what I can tell of the game based off this picture, it’s really giving off a Kingpin vibe.

While I agree with your point on Tarantino's ode to nostalgia, I just can't see that look being approved. Yes, so many aspects of all of his films through back to older movies of the 60s and 70s, they always have a striking aesthetic. What is being circulated in that pic is in no way in line with his body of work's aesthetic.
Quoted from snaroff:Companies need to be forward thinking, and open up their software platform (making it easy for home users to integrate music *IF* the license holders are being a PITA).
Pinsiders need to be realistic thinking. *IF* Stern goes out of its way to "open up" their platforms, it will piss off licensholders and you'll end up getting AP-style themes on your Stern pinball machines. They cannot do this and still maintain their licensing relationships and abide by the contracts they sign.
Do you want your "dream theme" or "Outer Space Babes Vs. Food Truck Aliens?"
Quoted from PBlank:I think that pic is real.
I hope so. That upper playfield looks great to me. And the one ramp with four different exits reminds me of BBB. I see the cheeseburger on the left side of the playfield, but I can't remember if David Hasselhoff was in the film or not. But they did nail the theme by straining the orange juice so it is really PULP: FICTION.

How do you know what will "piss off" license holders? Why would it piss off a license holder for a home player to enjoy music the home player has already paid for? I'm not talking about arcade usage, which is another story entirely. Home use is home use, and making a game that can adapt (and optimize) for the home shouldn't be rocket science.
I've been privileged to actually be part of many negotiations with 3rd party "app" companies and infrastructure providers (when I worked for Apple). When companies are motivated, interesting things can happen. No doubt it's possible that pinball (in general) is wildly unimportant to these license holders and they just simply like making things difficult. If that's the case, Stern is in a position to walk away from the license. Instead, it seems, they plow forward and do a half-assed job and blame the license holder (like on Bond). It's just mind boggling that the 60th anniversary big-ticket game doesn't have the legendary music.
Quoted from Pin_Fandango:I only see a blurred out picture… am I going blind?
Haha, I can not make out a ramp either. Looks like 3 drop targets and 3 pop bumpers behind it.
Quoted from snaroff:How do you know what will "piss off" license holders?
Come on man, you aren't new here. And TONS of people with actual experience in this stuff have chimed in, countless times. Hasn't stopped the fantasies.
The single most important thing from licensors is controlling their image and how their shit is used. If you just make it a free for all, nobody will do business with you. It's really easy to understand why if you actually attempt to.
Stupid but simple examples - if I'm coke and I license a pinball machine, you think I'm gonna be happy if you "open it up" so people can put Pepsi shit all over the programming? If I'm My Little Pony and I license you a pinball machine, you think I'll be happy if you "open it up" so people can insert gay porn clips wherever they want?
Stop living in fantasyland and be happy that people are getting away with what they are getting away with these days as far as "mod software." You'll never get an official OK or involvement with this stuff from pinball companies or the IP they license.
Visit the Godfather Hype thread right - someone who actually works for JJP is schooling people right now on how this shit works. Hint: Don't annoy Meryl Streep.

Wow I see it!!!! Amazing.
Inspired by this, and everybody else who is making these assumptions and judgements off of a photo with about 17 pixels, I did some further research on this photo and zoomed in. Here, you can clearly see what is the outline of a watch inside Christopher Walken - could it be a pinball recreation of that famous scene?!?!

Confirmed. PPS will have an allocation of these.
