Beautiful!

Quoted from pinballinreno:

Still, it looks a little low, and some chipping had been reported.
I think it has to be like 1/32" below the playfield surface to be effective in all cases.
Higher than the playfield surface just nicks the ball up.
If the protector offered isnt adequate, a cliffy will do the job after the fact.

This helps as well:

Quoted from Manic:

Sounds good... except the pic he provided shows the CC already damaged on the right side of his scoop. So it doesn't seem to be fully working despite the "debate".

I tried looking for whatever 'unboxing' he was referencing but couldn't find it. Have a link?

I was responding to the idea the protectors need to be flush or above the PF. They aren't there to be an artificial edge.. they are there to prevent being smashed side to side... and hence why the protector still works from inside the hole vs the cliffy design which is a 'wrap' effect. But the thinner cliffy will also deform easier allowing hits to transfer to the material behind it. They each have their pros/cons.

If the protector works well enough then there really is no concern at all.
Im just a nervous nelly when it comes to pinball I guess, and a fan of the cliffys.

A little square of mylar might be all that is needed there.

#557 6 years ago

Not a whole lot of unboxings in that thread, It has been perverted. I think a new unboxing thread should be started, as I rather enjoy those unboxing pics.

Mini Update:
• Mentioned in a previous post, I promised to share with the community our AFMR manual which was posted on our website this afternoon. Please feel free to look through it. http://www.chicago-gaming.com/files/AFM_MANUAL_REV_1.4.pdf
• Very pleased with the great comments on the Unboxing thread. We look forward in seeing many more!
• There was an instance reported whereby the SOL guard was slightly lower than it should have been. Our design is such that is should be 1/64ths below the height of the playfield. Small corrections have been made on the guard and the inspection team is carefully watching this, but it is our belief that very few games were shipped that did not meet our specifications. Overall, the games are functioning beautifully and the feedback we are receiving from the field is exciting.

More to come!

Great update and that manual is sweet. Such clarity even when zoomed in on parts diagrams and listings. Good for old eyes!

#561 6 years ago

Great communication! It is extremely refreshing to see this. Cant wait to see the first few LE's start rolling off the line.

#562 6 years ago

Doug if you keep up this level of communication you will have a lot of very happy new and repeat customers. Nicely done.

How many AFMr owners does it take to install a topper?

IMG_0030 (resized).PNGIMG_0030 (resized).PNG

#564 6 years ago

Delivery is scheduled for tomorrow for both my AFMr and MMr.
AFMr built at CGC factory and MMr built at Stern. I will report on the unboxing threads about both. It will be interesting to see if there is a difference in the fit and finish of the machines.

#565 6 years ago

The AFMr topper is sooooooo cool!

Quoted from Arcade:

Two. It says it right there in the manual. Not 3. Not 1. Two.

Pretty sure I would use 4 people for safety. Plus one supervisor.

#568 6 years ago

4 sounds about right....someone needs to hold the beer mug.

Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

You could do it the way a lot of businesses would do it. One person to install, without proper tools, with 4 levels of management watching.

#570 6 years ago

Does anyone know what motion the topper does? I still don't think i've seen any videos of it in action. I'm assuming the martian moves in someway.

#571 6 years ago
Quoted from chrisnack:

He bounces up and down similar to the playfield versions.

#572 6 years ago

I don't even want my girlfriend to see a bouncing Martian topper.

Why, afraid she'd get a ladder?

Oh snap haha

Lol!!!

Played the AFMLE at Logan Arcade last night. The lighting, extra wide DMD and the mirror blades almost make this pin feel like a wide body. I'm super excited to get mine.

Are all the LEs sold out?

#578 6 years ago
Quoted from wolv3:

Are all the LEs sold out?

I haven't heard any distributors say they are sold out yet.

#579 6 years ago

We have 3 Avail at this time. Goes up and down depending on the day, People order others cancel or change to an SE to get it now.

No Change here. Go ahead and send my LE as soon as it arrives.

If I order a LE how many backboxes does it come with?

#583 6 years ago

Have there been any pictures shown of the black trim for the LE? I'm warming to the green but not enough to switch my order yet.

Quoted from mark9:

I haven't seen any. Isn't black just a standard color you can order at any time? If there is any doubt, it might be better to order green, then change to black down the road if you don't like it.

I don't know how hard it would be to match that green later on. I may try to find out so I can get the coin door done. I have a Refinery Edition Metallica with the purple powder coat, and the matching coin door really looks nice.

#585 6 years ago

Look at the MMR threads they have some pictures of the black.

PinballSTAR has a few AFMR LEs left - shoot us an email at [email protected] !
Thanks, Joe

I have an MMr with black trim...just wondered if it will be the same, and wanted to see how good it looks on AFM.

#588 6 years ago

I saw the green at Logan Arcade and it looked fine. It's a little dim at Logan Arcade so the trim didn't really stand out but it was noticeable. I switched from green to black as I think the black will be well liked by anyone that sees it. It's definitely the safest choice in my opinion. I dont want anything distracting me from the amazing light show on the playfield, lol.

hey mark

I think Rick from PPS said it would be the same. I think if I had black MMR I'd be tempted to go with black AFMR I've got gold(ish) MMR so I'm of course going with Martian Green

#590 6 years ago

Wow! I like checking this thread because it is 99% good news and very little arguing. These remakes are good for pinball. Some day I hope to own and AFMr LE.

#591 6 years ago

I'm looking forward to when I get the email from my distributor on my LE. Since I just bought a game last month I'm content with waiting.

Maybe that is why I am impatiently waiting for that email. This is the first game I have wanted to buy since Metallica 3 years ago.

Its July 1.... Update... Update....Update.....

Just set up SE number 10. Build quality and packaging is superb, and not a single adjustment was needed. I do have the issue with the SOL protector being much lower on the right side, which makes sense being one of the first ones off the line. No biggie, really great job CGC_DougS keep up the outstanding work!

Your post reminded me to check my SOL protector. Mine is sitting perfect. Almost to the top and even on all sides.

Is it adjustable? Or is the part just sized wrong?

#597 6 years ago

I'll find out when they get back to me!

#598 6 years ago

Well PP just cashed my check for the LE this week so I would assume I'll be setting up shipping shortly.

#599 6 years ago

Just ship that thing to my house. You lucky bastitches.

#600 6 years ago

Really though I am saving my freaking penny's. It's all good. I have found the hunt to be an enjoyable part of the game.
