Quoted from jgentry:

Sure, things can change. But if each remake sells well that is what you should expect. The "Potential" list is the list they plan to make if they keep selling. You guys really make all of this stuff much more complicated in then it is.

The difference between you and me is that I have learned not to trust everything Rick says. Maybe in time you will realize why.

What complicates things is when people blindly think things will happen when someone says they might happen.

#102 6 years ago
Quoted from jgentry:

That is not the definition of a black eye.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

No.
A black eye is an embarrassment, a humiliation, something that harms a reputation.

According to Merriam-Webster it is...also called a DEFEAT.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/black%20eye

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

If you are selling the idea that people will specifically refuse to do business with them because of a well-explained, in advance, absence at a show, I ain’t buying.

Not sure why you are trying to put words in my mouth Levi. I said none of those things

Like I said, you guys are taking this stuff way too serious. They get released when they get released. If all of the list gets made then that's cool. If they don't it's no big deal either. All of these games can be purchased already if someone really wants one. I do not have some personal relationship with Rick. When I need parts that PPS has I order them if the price is right. He's not someone that I really need to feel a lot of trust in.

#104 6 years ago

All I'm doing is pointing out the fact that your statement "Rick announced the list of games that CGC will be making" is completely wrong. This isn't serious to me at all, but I await your next excuse to further this discussion.

Rick did release the list of games that obviously PPS has discussed licensing to CGC and that they plan to make. You really have a hard on for exact wording don't you? He said it's a potential list because obviously things can and do change. What do you think that list was for? They probably plan on not making any of those at all and Rick was just lying to everyone.

Wording doesn't matter to you, got it. You may carry on assuming all of the games Rick mentioned will get remade as well as misinforming everybody per your assumptions.

And then people get all butthurt because they inferred things that weren't actually said and then took it as fact for years.

Or is this a different non-licensed game about a Latino named Jesus who does cool shit?

People will get all butthurt no matter what any company says. Pinside pisses and moans no matter what happens. That's why the companies for the most part left pinside years ago.

I will, I talk to all kinds of people about this all the time. It's pretty high on everyone I knows radar.

Quoted from Damonator:

All I can say is hats off to CGC for the best kept secret in pinball. We’re a week out from TPF and we still don’t know for sure what the next title is.

sure we do... it is big king cactus bash voltaire

It’s not a black eye. It’s not a defeat. It’s just business. I wasn’t trying to put words in your mouth but calling this a “defeat” is not accurate.

It’s pinball. Shit happens, ya know?

Look up “overdramatic” In the dictionary and tell me what it says.

#112 6 years ago

Why doesn't everyone just calm down. They will announce it when they are ready to. There is plenty of pinball out there, go play something else and come back and look when they are ready.

Quoted from PDX_Pinball:

More like :
55 entry
2000 first class plane ticket to tpf
1000 two nights at Ritz Carlton
1500 bottle service at strip club
4000 hookers and blow
The way I see it, CGC owes me a free game #3.

honestly I was on the edge about going, hearing about the game(inside info) is why I finally broke down and bought plane tickets.

Everybody knows what game it is.....what am I missing about the "reveal"? Who gives a shit if it's tested a little longer, you know what game it is, you know what it looks like. Maybe they'll add that huge ass display with the big dots? I guess if you were expecting to take one home from the show that'd be a bummer but otherwise, no surprise is expected, correct?

maybe cause its only one of the most iconic games in pinball ?????? Just a thought???

if it's iconic, it's well known...you have seen one right? Played one I assume? So you won't be able to play a remake of one in Texas. I would say who the hell cares, but obviously a bunch of people do!

Maybe this will make you feel better: I bet there's going to be another MB to play there! ??? Why the drama? Oh, forgot, pinside.

EXPO for sure, which figures because stupid me Booked a Disney trip on the same weekend! DOH!

From the announcement, there's going to be some sort new tech driven feature. I guess knowing what game it will be could lead to what sort of tech it is. Since most of us have no idea which game or even if it is a remake of an established title, it's difficult to speculate. But this is Pinside so being off the tracks is part of the board.

I wonder if this new tech is something that is visual that is being added IOW, the electroluminescent blades that can be added to AFM. Or is it bluetooth connectivity so we can link bluetooth headphones or buds to the game. Neither would seem to be a stretch from existing games. Another thing that could be possible is to use a 3D display similar to some of the displays being used on some slot machines in casinos.

Any other ideas?

#125 6 years ago

Oh well...I get to save my money just a little longer.

#126 6 years ago

New tech that lets the machine take coins and other monies?

#127 6 years ago

What I find interesting about the whole situation is the different ways various companies operate. CGC announces a delay on when introducing their new game to get it completely right. Another company rushed various games to release with hardly any code in it. JJP announces a game, but it won't go into production for 6 months, while it's gets tested, improved and code expanded in the meantime. So many different approaches.

And everybody's favorites have to be those upstart companies that dangle dream themes like carrots and watch all the pre-order money come flying in.

#130 6 years ago

Additional features are being added while deploying some newer technologies.

Sounds like CCr. Its the only machine with unfinished code and the possibility to advance or rebuild the gameplay. Additionally put a Stern-like LCD-Display in it and the Soup is ready to serve.

Llyod knows already.

Actually I don't know. I never ask. That way if it leaks, wasn't me. I didn't know.

I'll know about the same time as everyone else, and then be cramming to learn.

I was hoping to see it inside and out at TPF. Get some pictures. Now I don't know if I'll get some pre production pictures or see it before it starts rolling out. Or if I may need to take a trip to Chicago to get some early learning in.

I might add too. That I enjoy the chance to get lots of pictures of the inside and out. Even if prototypes, the sooner I can study, the better.

I've been lucky so far with Hobbit, Dialed In, Pirates, Attack From Mars remake. Being at a show and able to get inside the games before the doors open to the public is something I treasure.

Oh well kind of feel bad for TPF. However, I would most likely base my purchase decision when the game comes to the Chicago show (whatever it's called) in the fall

Scott took his white wood to shows and let people play it before the art was even started, let alone announced.

I also agree that it is likely not MBr. Gotta be CCr which is great. I may be in on game #3 if it is.

#145 6 years ago

I still think that remake No 3 is MBr. The new enhancements are not ready yet.. My wife and I are looking forward to an announcement soon...!

I like the speculation about MBr versus CCr. Lets have a bit of analysis (tech crap follows)!

1. The code for both games is in 6809 assembly. This is a very verbose "language" that new software engineers don't really know at all.
2. If they were to make Cactus Canyon, the gold standard is epthegeek 's Continued software. Reimplementing the same features in ASM6809 is borderline impossible using the original code alone. That means that the modifications have to take place downstream (in the emulator). CGC uses stock roms for most every bit of emulation.
3. When you're making improvements in emulation, you really can't change a lot of the original code's behavior, BUT you can jump around it. This is generally used for things like debadging the game of any Williams logos on the DMD, coloring the dots and timing adjustments. Even with the advantages emulation gives you, writing new game modes in this way takes a lot of time, and for half of the modes that EP implemented in Continued, that would have to happen on the original game code.

So given the above technical factors, and given the fact that the talent pool at CGC has changed, I'd put my money on the next remake NOT being Cactus Canyon since it requires quite a bit of legwork for the product to work on any gameplay feature set compared to what already exists out there.

Maybe the delay is due to them getting away from emulation and actually re-writing the code. Having a separate CGC menu always seemed like a hack to me anyway.

The emulation also limits what they can do with colorization. Since WPC games didn't have a separate display ROM, they have to intercept the DMD signal similar to how ColorDMD does it (ColorDMD does a better job). On the remakes, you can occassionally see frames in orange before it changes to color.

I hope that their "new technology" is them getting away from emulation.

Agreed on all points! So the CGC menu trick is a bit simple. Basically the emulator receives all of the switch matrix events on the game, you then intercept the coin button switch events, stop the CPU clock, overlay the SDL display and redirect all the switch events to the custom menu.

Plus the DMD coloration scheme is likely different as to not infringe upon any of Randy's IP, so it could likely use a bit of tweaking.

I really don't see them getting away from emulation for the remakes though as they just don't have the software talent in house anymore to do it... I hope I'm wrong though! Happy to eat crow on this one.
