They are both awesome games but hard to compare since they are so different. I used to own GnR but I sold it last year to buy an IJ. It's probably the best Data East game EVER and plays like a Williams game. The family loves the CFTBL so I doubt it's ever going anywhere. I personally don't think you could go wrong with either.
