The manual says 3/16" rubber there. By the looks of it you have the wrong post, that looks like the post that hold the black rubber sleeve. I'm not saying mine is definitely correct, but it seems right and goes along with the manual.

my pic if from the right out lane,
your is of the left. the upper one by the film does have a ring on it i will have to check and hope i have some sleeves sitting around if that is what the manual says
Mine didn't have any there or the opposite side either. Mine's a German export machine not that it would matter.
Curious as to what others say...
Ok, I was looking at the wrong post. The manual doesn't have anything listed there. I have black rubber posts on mine and it plays fine. I know I used more black posts than the manual stated when I shopped mine, maybe it was those 2? Put em on, if you like it better they go there!
Yes, I'm curious about others. Since they were both the same on either side, it looked "right" so I never noticed until you mentioned it.
Thanks guys. Let us know how it plays with the sleeves. I switched all to green Cliffy's so I have some spare black ones so I may try too.
Quoted from NM:You guys are missing a black rubber post sleeve in that location.
cool i thought it was weird to have bare metal post
This sucks. I was just in sioux falls and could'nt find a place to pin. I sure would have come over and offered my thoughts on the rubber situation. Just so i could have a game to test with protection and without.

there is always a few games at the arcade in the western mall by the cheap theatre on the south side by scheels and stuff
they have MM, TAF, SM and RFM last i knew.
will have to have a pin GTG sometime
Quoted from ssathre:Wrap that rascal!
LOL wrapped it up and ready for action (thats what she said)
I thought it was the empire mall. I was in the parking lot thinking is this the mall that has the pins or the other one. 5yo son got cranky for some coldstone so took him there instead. BTW Carnival brizilian whatever it is sucks.

+1 again
Quoted from johnwartjr:I've seen it both ways.
Interesting.
Quoted from fusion301:I think factory is no rubber.
Could very well be guys.
FWIW, the manual doesn't list black sleeves there (it only lists 7 of them in other locations). Ironically, they list a 3/4" rubber ring there (obviously in error), and on the left side only.
As you know, with Bally-Williams manuals, no telling what they meant to say.
Checked the Promo video: couldn't make anything out either (too obscured, too grainy). Nothing in the flyer either.
PO mod or not, I'm keeping the sleeves on mine.
I dont find the game outlanes drainy at all - I feel like the down the middle balls is what kills me - especially when your trying for jackpot
Quoted from Marten:Mine has a black sleeve on it. I think the game is drainy enough.
So true lol! Need to throw some "rubbers" on mine. I don't prefer the "rhythm" method I did have lol!
Quoted from NM:I dont find the game outlanes drainy at all - I feel like the down the middle balls is what kills me
Guess that's why this owner came up with this "ingenious" invention.
He should have used Hercules flippers instead--at least they'd have been fully reversible .Attachments Middle_Drain_Post!.jpg (317.9 KB, 1 downloads) 20 minutes old
Why??!!! I know why, but why?!!! Not to mention the rubbers are way dirty. I guess I'm too anal. I'm sure that will change as the pin collection grows?!
Quoted from fusion301:I dont find the game outlanes drainy at all - I feel like the down the middle balls is what kills me
I agree. I lose most balls between the flippers too, but I can't do much about that.
So this is a way to make the game a little more forgiving as a whole.
woot no thanks to this mod but i just kicked my wife off the cftbl score list, she is less then pleased

Wait until I tell her about the socks in the out lanes mod ! Your high score is already beneath hers !

You're a brave man.

I find myself using the wife's initials on high scores to keep it interesting.

Sorry Neil. The factory didn't spec a post sleeve there. However I too put one on mine anyway

Indeed my friend; subsequently caught my error and posted this quasi retraction :

CFTBL actually didn't come factory installed with rubber on those posts. Not sure why, but I would guess that everybody thought the game was too easy with rubber posts on there. I found many pics of the game with no rubber there. Also, read the in depth rule sheet that is probably found on both pinball.org & maybe IPDB (by Sigma). This was written long ago shortly after the game came out, in early '94, & even then he specifically makes mention that the posts don't have any outlane rubber, & if it is there it is because you have a very generous operator.
What the heck is with this thread. I cannot even follow it any more.
No there are no sleeves on the post between the in lanes and out lanes.
Yes, this game is a drain monster and it is hard to save the out lanes balls
Yes, the flippers are wide apart.
Great game but simple rules and only a two ball multiball (but you have to put 3 in anyway)
One of the top 5 in my collection and probably most played.
