The purpose of this thread is to document my observations with the CFTBL LCD mod during boot sequence.

This thread is here to help others as they are installing or working on their CFTBL LCD mod.

The steps below will describe what I see during a good boot sequence of the LCD mod.

I noticed that my machine with the LCD mod prefers a 'warm' boot. If at first my mod might not wake up, so I would wait a bit, and carefully restart my machine. My mod is using a dedicated power supply that was sold by Mike.

notes --
The painters tape in the pictures is used to secure some extra clear sheets I've added to help protect the TV screen.
Also, my apology for the colored light reflections in the photos. I have colored light strings above my machines.

Power up sequence -

Turn your machine on.

1. LED Lights on the board will turn on. Since I am using a dedicated power supply, the original power connector is not used. It is shown loose, in this photo.

2. The words HDM1 will breifly appear in the corner of the screen.

3. A cursor will flash in the corner for awhile

4. A thick bar will appear lit at the bottom of the screen

5. The bar will get thinner

6. The bar will get thinner again, so thin, it looks like a line

7. The screen will go blank briefly

8. The first image/animation will appear.

Note - I'm just a hobbiest -- I'm not tech support for this mod.

I had an issue with the Raspberry Pi booting up and polling the HDMI before the TV had initialized. If you just delay the boot time of the Raspberry PI by editing the config.txt file, your TV will be powered up and waiting for the PI to drive it via the HDMI.

Put the sd card in a computer, and edit config.txt and set boot_delay=2 to boot_delay=6

Save the file and put the card back in the Raspberry Pi.

Another vote for changing the boot delay.

Did the wrong boot delay look like this?

with the error message "... due to Keyboard Entry kdb>_"

Was setting up my mod today (boards and wiring already installed by previous owner), but re-installing screen and bracket.

The MikeD rev 2 power board / controller is lighting up. However no LEDs are lighting on the Raspberry Pi, and it appears to be dead (certainly outputting no HDMI signal - I checked with a PS4 that the TV was able to receive HDMI).

Before I go and buy a new Raspberry Pi (which version is it?), I'd like to make sure the PSU power feed isn't the issue. If I go and buy USB charger, what do I need to get? 5V 3A USB Micro? Will a standard phone charger work?

If the separate PSU doesn't work and I know it's the Pi itself, will just connecting the new one up and inserting the SD card and USB stick make it work immediately, or do I need to do some setup?

Sorry for the cluelessness.

I had a similar issue. Prior to installing the mod, I had just done a full restoration, and left an IDC z-connector (in the backbox) disconnected. Creech normally gets mirror motor power via IDC z-connectors at J103 (ground) and J107 (power). Check your wiring in the backbox at J103 and J107 and make sure the z-connectors are in place and nothing is disconnected.

For more info on adjusting the "boot delay" please vist the original MOD thread, should be on page 6.

They're fine, but power isn't getting to the Pi board. Assume there's something wrong with the power / logic board thingy, as the Pi works fine with a mobile phone charger.

I'll likely be selling the kit though and waiting to see what Rappelbox comes up with.
