If you can find a small 1 or 2oz tube of wood filler it would work better. It will sand much easier than a wood dowel, and fill the entire area easier. I place a piece of tape on the rear side of the hole and then smoosh in the filler so that it fills in nicely. If you don't get it nice and smooth, an outline of the drilled hole will still stand out behind the decal.
